Black people at football games

This is just something that I've contemplated slightly. Bearing in mind that some of the best players to ever grace the game were African or black Brazilian players. But, for some reason it's very rarely that you see a black person at a football game. I've only ever seen about 3 in the whole time I've went to Hearts games. But, even in places like England where there is a lot you don;t see many.

There's a much lower percentage of black people in Scotland than England. It's down to nothing more than that.

I heard that Hearts refuse to sell tickets to any non-Caucasians.

If you see one again, please report them to the stewards and they will be dealt with.

There was a black guy in section N a few seasons ago. Not seen him lately.

He was one of the more vocal guys in N. Started quite a few songs.

It's a crying shame that good Hearts men are being discriminated against by the club because of their ethnicity in this way.

We should show our solidarity at the next home game. I think Connor should take the lead for a blacking up protest.

According to the big Hibs book of football facts , the first recorded football supporter of colour attended a match at easter road in Sept 3rd in eighteen hundred and clickity click . .

It's a fair point. In England, although black people (Afro-Carribean) are more widely represented as fans and perhaps even disproprtionately on the pitch, there is comment from time to time about how few people of Asian backround make it as players or attend games.

Football has genearally been poor at out-reaching beyond the traditional fan base to attract spectators, and indeed has often been hostile to "outsiders". In our case, it is noticable that Gorgie has a big Polish population, but I can't remember hearing a Polish accent at tynecastle, despite the presence of Adrian!.

There is an incredibly high number of black players who play the game compared to the amount of black supporters.

It's strange.

I'm one of the only black Hearts supporters I know of to be honest.

There were 2 Polish guys sitting behind me on the day Klimek made his appearance, as he came on I asked them if he was any good.

They said no he is shit

I dont see why the OP is getting pelters.

It might not seem very tactiful but it is a valid point: in our increasingly multi cultural society it is still rare to see others from different backgrouds attend games.

It could be as simple as the the product on show is so dire there is no appeal.

Less so down south, the crowds are more diverse. But even in the likes of Bradford where there is a large population of non-caucasians the demographic of the football fans is still predominately white males.

To be honest, if I wasn't Caucasian, no chance I would be going along to support Hearts with the amount of "hilarious" racist patter and abuse of black players you hear from the support.

With coloured friendly groups such as the EDL partially formed by sections of football supporters is could be understandable but if you do look closer at the clubs from areas in england with higher Asian/Black populations like Birmingham you will see more non white faces . And of course Man Utd because of there position .

Its hard to pull the Asian kids away from cricket etc where they have there own hero's in the likes of Tendulkar who is far more famous in the Asian community . Also Basketball is very popular among st the Afro Caribbean population in London .

That doesn't surprise me as he could get quite animated at times.
