The Act of Killing 8/10

I'd just be repeating what a few other folk on the thread have said already, so do a wee search on the name if you're thinking of watching it. It's jaw-dropping stuff.

Starred Up

8/10

Very impressed by this gritty British prison drama. Only flaws I felt were that I missed some of the dialogue and it was a tad far fetched at times. However the final 15 minutes was edge of the seat stuff. Best film I have watched in ages.

Gone Girl 8.5/10

Very good movie and pretty gripping throughout. Probably 20 odd minutes too long but that doesn't really detract from the story.

The final half hour left me feel really uneasy on a number of occasions.

Also a fair few humorous moments.

Divergent

5/10

Obviously directed at the Hunger Games crowd and I guess based on a similar book. Reasonable teen sort of movie where "the kids" choose which social group they will join. Fell asleep near the end.

Downfall: 8/10. Very good film with some superb acting. It was almost like a genuine documentary of the final few days in Hitler's bunker.

I'll be honest. When I was a young 'un I shed quite a few tears over that movie!

Jimmy's Hall

4/10

Set in 30's Ireland about Jimmy and his Hall ("church" sort of hall, not at his front door). Admit to knowing little of the politics and church relations in Ireland during that time. Also found the dialogue and story hard to follow. Not one for me.

Hercules Reborn.

I fancied a bit of a sword and sandals type adventure tonight and this was only a couple of quid on Blinkbox.

Astonishing! Maybe one of the worst films of this type I have ever seen. There were about 8 "actors" in it and one of them was a wrestling star. Everyone else was recruited from the Moroccan village it was filmed in, and it wasn't a very big village.

IMDB rated it at 4/10. I would put it around 2/10

Gone Girl/ Girl Gone whatever the **** it's called.

Good but lots of holes I could poke in the story line.

Acting was great though.

The Conjuring

7.5/10

Best horror in a while. Did feel it lost its way a bit in the second half but the first half was scary enough for me to think I don't like this very much in a sort of scaredy cat sort of way! Lots of stereo types, basement, tick, teenage and preteen girls, tick, many many more, but it did the fright scenes really well.

A Million Way To Die In The West 3/10

Dreadful just not funny at all, only the Back To The Future nod was any good and 2 hours long just no need.

The Heat

3/10

Couldn't get into it and felt it was just trying to be funny and failing. Wasn't disappointed when I fell asleep half way through.

Blitz

A very watchable thriller/action movie, thought there were some excellent performances, and lots of decent subplots too

The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou 8/10

I'm really not sure why I didn't see this when it came out. Great film and one of those ones that you just know was written with a certain actor in mind for the main part. Classic Bill Murray.

The Wolf of Wall Street ... 5.5/10

Surely, Scorsese and DiCaprio must cringe somewhat when they are reminded of that. While it may well be based on actual events, I would have thought those two would have adapted it with a bit more class.

Don Jon - Alright, couldnt really see the point of it tho. Bit of fun I suppose - 6/10

Lego Movie - Realy enjoyed it, decent story although the ending is far too cringey - 7/10

Neighbors - Quite funny, unrealistic party nonsense with some funny lines - 7/10

Disser Pointon

Oldboy. Bit bizarre but intriguing enough to hold my interest till the end which was a bit disappointing. 6/10, apparently the foreign original is far superior.

Cold in July

6.5/10

Decent thriller starring Michael C Hall (Dexter). Loses its way a bit towards the end.

Watched this on the plane yesterday and I'd agree with that. The story wasn't entirely convincing but it was decent. Michael C Hall was good.

Watched it on the flight home, quite enjoyed it overall but got a bit too far fetched towards the end.

The Calling 5/10

Low-budget Canadian thriller with Susan Sarandon and Donald Sutherland. This had the makings of a good film (seem to say that a lot on here) but there were just too many far-fetched leaps in the plot.
