Paris or Prague???

Beats

Recommended Posts

I am getting married next July but were not going on honeymoon until the November.

Just going to go away for 5 nights max.

I fancy Prague but she wants to go to Paris.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in either that you have been to?

Cheers in advance.

You would need 3x the cash if you go to Paris but you would still have as good a time in Prague if not better. Also the French are very rude people IMO

So are the Czechs! However, Prague is easier on the pocket.

However, if money is of no object, I'd throw Stockholm or Vienna into the mix.

Wouldn't say money is no object but it is our honeymoon so i would pay more than i would if we were just going away for a few days.

Just want a nice hotel and a few tips for restaurants etc.

Out of those two, Paris is far better.

Whats your budget?

I'd hope to get a hotel and flights for around a grand.Prob a Mon-Fri job.

Never been to Prague but spent a lot of time in Paris. Under the circumstances in which you are going I would say Paris is definitely worth it, it is a very romantic place and there will be enough people around to help you out if you need some local translation, but you should be OK just talking english if you stick to the main tourist areas.

It depends what the main focus of the break is to be. If your BOTH wanting to go for 3 oe 4 days on the bevvy, with a little bit of sight seeing and nice enough restaurants then definetly go for Prague.

If the focus or more on the sight seeing and having a good look round the city and a nice atmospheric meal at night then its got to be Paris by an absolute mile.

Hotel wise Paris will be more expensive but good deals if you hunt around. Check here first http://www.accorhotels.com. If you find something you like on that website give me a shout by PM and I may be able to get you a discount or an upgrade room. Prague is compartively cheaper for hotels.

Flight wise probably easier and cheaper to get to Paris

Restauarnt wise, even the really good ones in Prague arent that much more expensive than an average one here. In Paris it CAN get very expensive even for average. I'd get the latest copy of Rough Guide or Lonely PLanet for good tips on where to eat cheap but nice in Paris

Absolutely stunning location and reasonably priced.

Usually have good deals on. Rooms are spectacular and the food excellent.

Would also recommend Ferrara in Italy.

been to both paris and prague and i have to say both have their merits, and to be honest, it doesn't really matter where you go as being the honeymoon, you'll find both cities wonderful i'm sure

if i were the one going though, i'd say definitely paris. it is a bit more pricey for sure, but it really is a lovely city, and is full of romance.

the french are fine if you try a little french, even just please and thank you, and you let them know you're scottish.

as soon as most people found out we were from edinburgh, they were really keen to help and more friendly.

i am slightly biased though as i have friends in paris and have been a few times. having mates there also meant we got taken round a few less touristy places too.

if you do decide on paris tohugh, i'll get the names of a few places for you though.

Totally agree with the part about trying a little French.

I found the French are less rude and reasonbly tolerant if you try and speak a bit of the lingo.

I've been to both Paris and Prague, but for a honeymoon I'd go for Paris.

It can be as hectic or relaxed a you want it - a leisurely stroll along the banks of the Seine is really nice.

Scottish pub near Notre Dame called The Auld Alliance.

I was in Paris during the heatwave of Aug 2003 (temperatures up to 105, or maybe that should be 108!) when even the locals were popping their clogs.

The first pint of Caley 80/- in the Auld Alliance didn't touch the sides!

I don't get the gag about Paris being a romantic city. It's a big city, same as many. It has nice sights and decent landmarks but also a hell of a lot of the drawbacks of big cities.

Prague's a cracking place. I've not done an overnight there for 5 years and can't remember the name of the hotel I last used. It's all been business trips but I get far more of a sense of the romance of the place with the Old Town Square, the Castle Hill, the Karlov Bridge and so many other cute and quaint things all within strolling distance of each other.

I first went in about 1993 and since then, a lot has changed - not all for the better - but, in my view, it still knocks spots off most other European capitals.

If you're going for the big romantic dinner, there's a restaurant called Nebozizek. I hope it's still there. It has one of the most spectacular settings and views without milking it for crazy money. Half way up the hill on the Castle side in the middle of nothing with a funicular railway nearby.

i love the auld alliance. run by an airdrie supporter if memory serves, but owned by a jambo? the first time i was in there, behind the bar was a 98 hears cup final shirt, signed by all the players.

last time i was in, we all turned up in our hearts shirts to watch us beat septic 3-0 (ivaskevicius got the first goal if i recall?)

i'm not a huge an of going abroad and finding a scottish or irish bar as a rule, but its definitely worth a visit

i know what you mean about it being a big city, and your points about prague are all very valid. i just found something a wee bit special about paris, and i've never been over for a romantic time, just with family and to socialise with my brothers mates.

i've always fancied vienna or venice for a romantic break though, as well as a few other places.

i'm not sure that the loation of the honeymoon is as important though as the time you spend together

damn, i must be turning into a romantic in my old age!!

Been to both and it is a no contest, Paris wins easily especially for a honeymoon. The French are fine, as long as you at least attempt to to speak French, and when they know you are a Scot.

And think years ahead when children ask where you went on your honeymoon. Paris, is there anywhere more romantic? (Apart from Tynecastle of course)

Just back from Barcelona and its a great city but November is pretty cold and will be colder in these two cities.

For a great honeymoon I'd go for Mexico on the Mayan Riviera mate. You'll love it.
