Ulysses
Economic Left/Right: -2.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.10 A bit left of centre on the economic scale, and more strongly libertarian on the social scale. If that means I think governments should intervene a bit with markets for the benefit of society, without overdoing it, but should get the **** out and quit interfering with individual privacy, then it's accurate enough. shaun.lawson
One thing worth pointing out: Political Compass is, I think, based on American parameters of left and right. The entire US system is to the right of the European one - meaning many of us getting very left wing results probably aren't quite as left wing in reality as we might think. Commander Harris
that thought had crossed my mind, and may well be the case, although judging by this entry in their FAQ I think they might be British. 30. When are you guys gonna learn to spell ? This grievance comes from pernikety people who have leapt into attack without checking the FAQs ..and without even the remotest realisation that British and American words are sometimes spelt differently. They should have travelled more! We've been at the centre of some rancour, but we're not going to take offence or harbour any grievances. The catalogue of their ill-informed certainties won't colour this organisation's programme. It's a grey area anyway. And we don't want to labour the point. Except to add that most of these cavillous correspondents seem to feel that they have a licence or a blank cheque for a level of rudeness that more civilised souls wouldn't have dreamt of. In response, we nevertheless practise polite dialogue, enabling them to recognise that the error is entirely their own. (We manoeuvre them towards the Oxford English Reference Dictionary, which is also an encyclopaedia.) This leaves them quite defenceless, which may account for the fact that these less than honourable individuals virtually never apologise.

upthehill
Your political compass Economic Left/Right: 1.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.97 A Word about Neo-cons and Neo-libs U.S.neo-conservatives, with their commitment to high military spending and the global assertion of national values, tend to be more authoritarian than hard right. By contrast, neo-liberals, opposed to such moral leadership and, more especially, the ensuing demands on the tax payer, belong to a further right but less authoritarian region. Paradoxically, the "free market", in neo-con parlance, also allows for the large-scale subsidy of the military-industrial complex, a considerable degree of corporate welfare, and protectionism when deemed in the national interest. These are viewed by neo-libs as impediments to the unfettered market forces that they champion.
