peckhamjambo
Yes - Wembley's surrounding environs certainly don't help! I think they've done up Wembley Park tube a bit to accompany the new stadium, but that's about it. Back in the day, the industrial estate surrounding the old stadium felt almost surreal: you could wander around in the shadows of history almost deserted, and the only thing good about the area was a ten pin bowling alley where, by some utter fluke, I achieved my personal all time high of 185. I think we'd bunked off school that day in order to go there! And the Wembley City Development/Forum House (it it's early stages admittedly): http://www.wembleycity.co.uk/ And Wembley Stadium Station And rebuilt Wembley Arena (2006) Apart from that, not much development really. Wembley gets a hard time but it takes time to develop areas, especially on the scale that is happening here now. It is no where near the likes of Harlseden/Hackney/Brixton etc, and (touch wood!), I have had no problems in the years I have lived here.

It gets a hard time from me because I was born in Harrow in 1978, so remember how much better the whole of Harrow and Wembley seemed in the 1980s compared to now! I certainly wouldn't put it in the same league as Harlesden or Stonebridge Park though: my nightbus took me home from there, and it was an utterly alarming experience. Optimus Prime
Bristol Rovers V Shrewsbury- Attendance 61,589. The total attendance doesn't matter one bit. The record was for the highest attendance by one club at a Wembley final. The link i posted earlier from a report dated 6th April 2009 stated that Luton broke the record. The link i posted earlier from a report dated 6th April 2009 stated that Luton broke the record. I think were going round in circles here,& I also think you (or the BBC) are incorrect Optimus, there are 3 matches in question: Bristol Rovers VS Shrewsbury Luton Town Vs Sunthorpe Leeds United Vs Doncaster Rovers The debate seems to be which single club took the most fans to the New Wembley Stadium Bristol Rovers VS Shrewsbury Overall Match attendance 61589 Total Number of Bristol fans in attendance 40,000 Info posted by Bathjambo & 269 miles Luton Town Vs Scunthorpe Overall match attendance 55378 Total Number of Luton Town fans in attendance = overall attendance - scunthorpe fans (assuming all non scunthorpe fans are Luton Town fans) Scunthorpe sold 13000+ tickets (see link) http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/news/Iron-dream-shattered/article-874816-detail/article.html Therefore total number Luton Town fans should be 55378-13000 which =42378 This total seems to be supported by the link posted by optimus which mentions 40K. Info re number of Luton fan posted by Optimus http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2009/04/hats_off_to_luton_after_wemble.html#071427, total attendance from http://www.skysports.com/football/match_report/0,19764,11065_3110837,00.html, number of Scunthorpe tickets sold from http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/news/Iron-dream-shattered/article-874816-detail/article.html Leeds United Vs Doncaster Rovers Overall Match Attendance 75132 Total Number of Leeds fans in attendace 50,000 Data on attendance from http://www.skysports.com/football/match_facts/0,19762,11065_2999991,00.html Data on 50K Leeds fans from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1021873/Doncaster-Championship-agony-McAllisters-Leeds.html The link posted by optimus claims that Luton took the highest number of fans to a Wembley final, the total attendance was 55378 & Scunthorpe sold 13000 tickets. Leeds however took 50000 to Wembley according to The Mail, The MET and radio 5 Live estimated the figure at 55000, only 378 short of the combined total of Luton and Scunthorpe fans at the recent JPT final. To be fair as posted before these types of attendance's are only possible when lower League team's play at Wembley. In the top tier the opposition almost always take a decent allocation limiting tickets availble.

mundojambo
i dont much like the look of the place, it has little character and is far away from the pitch, it looks like an american football stadium and doesn't seem to get an atmosphere from what i gather
derek1874
I was down there over the weekend for yesterdays JPT final - Scunny v Luton Town. A very good game that had almost everything (apart from a penalty shoot out). An incredible crowd of 55 378. But I have to say that the stadium is incredible. A proper national stadium. The facillities were fantastic. (and they never ran out of 'pies' ) The place kind of makes Hampden look like Broomfield. . Bit disrespectful to Broomfield tho
upthehill
I went down for the game with my Luton supporting pals - the game was cracking, the 3 Luton goalscorers all looked better than Nade, and the stadium was really great. If it had gone to penalties we'd have missed our Sleazyjet flight home - so am glad it didn't. We were all slating Hampden in comparison - the English and Welsh have top class national stadiums, ours is very poor. The crowd was really good - 57,000 for Luton vs Scunthorpe? That's mighty good. 40,000 booing the FA was good - reminded me of Hearts! The Luton fans reminded me a bit of Ibrox though - Union Jacks, St.Georges Crosses, National Anthem before the game, and orange strips everywere....
