Hartley.

The People's Chimp

I was on a birthday night out on saturday and speaking to few fans of various persuasions; hun, muttonite, arab, and anyway they quickly steered the conversation, as you will no doubt have experienced, to hearts, romanov and what a big mess we're in and when is liquidation etc. Great. It's all i've talked about to morons for 3 years now, including partick thistle fans who try and make sly jokes about my soi disant protestantism/view towards catholics when i'm an atheist liberal socialist.* Anyway, I digress, the point of this somewhat meandering post is that I managed to steer the conversation round, as I always do, to the much vaunted successes of our esteemed club. Number one being Adam's goal in 1998, but, for those old squirmers less steeped in scottish football's actual traditions, 2006 is a fine topic with which to shut them up.

Fwiw, Hartley is always going to be hearts legend for me.

That chase back and tackle was Miko's best moment in a Hearts shirt. Apart from his first goal against Killie. Or the goal against Celtic. Or maybe Hibs. Oh wait, what about barging Andy Davis?

Feck it, he's awesome.

I love the man, He gave me the best day off my live on the 02/04/06

Also scored the most vital goal ever at Tynecastle against Aberdeen to give us a chance to enter the champions league.

Hartley will always be welcome back to Tynecastle.

What a beautiful day..day..day..What a beautiful day

Said this before... and I'll say it again.

For that hatrick alone... Paul Hartley could come in to my house... take a sh* t on my living room floor, kick me in the nuts... and I'd still shake his hand, pat him on the back and thank him giving me one of the greatest ever moments as a Hearts fan.

Mr Paul Hartley.... a Hearts legend.

Marvellous!

That sure as feck brightens up another Monday morning at work ... Hartley's superb hat-trick (number two still gets me jumping); Zibby; The Hobo's losing the plot on the park; the empty seats in the wee team's end ... were these the 'wide-open spaces' at Hampden that the Hobo's were gonna teach us a lesson on?; Miko and the corner flag ...

What a day that was :)

I honestly do not think he will ever play football like that for any other club.

I wonder if he would prefer playing for hearts and playing the best football of his career or playing for the tic his boy hood heroes but not playing great football.

Winning loads of trophies playing for his boyhood heroes.

Or winning the odd trophy playing for a team thats not his boyhood heroes.

Seems a no brainer.

As for the quality of football comment, don't know where you get that from. He's now playing at a higher level than he was at HMFC, and is equipping himself ok.

I dunno if it is a no-brainer.

His form was irresistible that season. It's definitely the best football of his career.

I agree he has played well though, for celtic.

The hardfought nature of a hearts scottish cup win, the relationship he had with the fans and his love of getting it right up the HOBOs means he will also cherish his time at hearts and that scottish cup win, I'm sure just as much as the time with his boyhood heroes.

We had some great football in 2006, some fantastic moments from the likes of Rudi and Takis, but everytime we played really well, Hartley was at the centre of it all.

He strutted that season with panache and arrogance (allied to real ****ing grafting, mind) and delivered, in the Cup semi-final, as complete a performance as I've seen anyone deliver in a Hearts shirt. It just doesn't get better - and to do it in a game of such importance, completely destroying and demoralising the hobos into the bargain - just awesome. :D

I still think his lack of conviction from the spot when we capitulated to Celtic at Tynie recently, betrayed his feelings for this club.

Legend.

From a Hearts fans point of view I can see where you're coming from.

From a football players point of view, he's now playing at a higher level, playing competitive matches against teams like Man Utd, and winning trophies. I imagine he'll feel he's progressed quite a bit since his HMFC days.

I agree that his opponents are of a higher level in some matches but he is not really playing the football of his career, he also plays a totally different role at the tic.

People always come out with this kind of nonsense when I say that I like Hartley. I'm just surprised that someone hasn't made some hilarious "where's the extra H" comment. Some people just don't want to see the posts that don't fit in with their twisted agenda.

Paul Hartley is quite rightly regarded as a Hearts legend. Was a class act for us and has conducted himself superbly since leaving. He is always welcome back at Tynie. :)

Let's not ruin a thread about a Hearts great by mentioning the chest thumping wheasel or looking to start arguments with a thoroughly decent poster in Makween. :(

I believe the mods only act on these things when reports are submitted. I personally don't report people as I'm a man of honour.

But thanks for asking.

I don't care who he plays for or what he does for the rest of his career, I will love Paul Hartley until my dying day. That man is part Jambo, and I'm sure he'll admit as much when he finally hangs up his boots.

If the Celtic players take to hanging about in Edinburgh bars after their ban from the weedge establishments, he's one who'll not go short on a few free beers...

Couldnt agree more, he was perhaps not a Jambo when he arrived, but part of him will be with us forever and a little of us has went west with him.

Got no problems with him joining Celtic... he always gave 100% at the JTs

It seems that`s one thing Romanov has at least got right in the last couple of years!

Paul seems to have suddenly lost his energy and drive he had at Hearts. I don`t think it`s anything to do with a new role at Celtic or him sticking out at a smaller club because it`s quite easy to tell when a player has "lost his legs" so to speak.

However, like every other Hearts fan he`ll remain a hero of mine. Maybe not on a par with Robbo but he`ll certainly keep his place in our history and that season will be brought up year after year after year, because it deserves to be.:)

I really admired that fact that, although we all knew he was Celtic-fan-at-heart, he was never fishing for a move, and always seemed to raise his game against them... and if he was able to wind-up the fans, well, he seemed to enjoy that too.

It just showed how much he was loved that when he handed in a transfer request just before the cis semi v Motherwell(correct me if i have the wrong team) nearly every Hearts fan sang his name as he came out.No other player would have got that for wanting to join the tic.

He was well on his way to legendary status then and he confirmed it on the 02/04/06!

One of the greatest servants to the club in my (short) lifetime.

Great memories of a fabulous day.

And to think some in the Scottish media actually criticised Hearts/Vlad for not letting him go to his boyhood heroes for the ?300,000 (or was it a generous ?350,000) that Celtic first offered for his services.
