Asian Shopkeepers..

I didnt realise so many people wanted to stop and have a conversation with the bloke thats taking 30 pence for your newspaper.

They would probably have the same conversation 100 times a day.

You are in that shop for 20 seconds and expect your presence to be honoured....save 'I demand manners' for more pressing situations.

Go in, select your goods, pay him and naff off.

I don't expect a red carpet, I expect manners!

In my experience Asian Shopkeepers fall into two distinct categories:

(1) Really friendly. Totally pleasant and helpful.

or

(2) Rudest *******s you are ever likely to meet in your life.

Not much in between!!

A bit like ginger birds. Either stunning or munters. Nothing in between.

Just who the **** are they talking to on their phones !!!

How can a male talk on the phone for 9 hours straight...

I can understand birds but it's blokes too !!

Confused.

NB - Before anyone goes off on one this is in no way racist I just find it amusing !!

You must have been bored out of your skull watching for that long.

Boris, think the change thing is a hygiene or cultural thang (i.e. it would be more offensive to touch your hand than to drop the change).

Could be. Although the 'talking on the phone' is a definite Asian speciality!!

Yes it counts - Being on a corner is not mandatory !!

Glad I put this thread up. Seems it's not only me afterall !!

For what it is worth he talked for a bit, then called out for Stacey to leave restocking the sweets to come over to the phone and take it from him. However when she got there the person on the other end had hung up.

I know all this as I was standing holding out a ?5 note waiting to pay

I love all my customers, they are the blood of my business.

Even orrible little scroats coming in for 'a bag'

and the 'price checkers'

even more so the 'just looking' customer, they're great to talk to.

In fact I even adore genies from internet sites that appear 'as if by magic' and buy not just one, but 2 batteries.

I love all my customers.

In Black's today to get a wee bit extra waterproof gear and served by a perfectly nice bloke hailing from Southall or one of the other South Asian lands. Very informative, he was, about Gore and Nikwax and all the stuff and very sympathetic to my near drowning while cycling in to work.

While sorting out the tags on the clothes, his moby goes. Or I assume it went as I never heard a ring but he had it to his ear in an instant and was puttaputtaputting away into it. He and I exchanged no more words as the transaction ended.

This didn't bother me, though, as I had thoughts of this thread making me smirk as I entered my PIN.

It is a serious question !! Ok so if they are speaking to other shopkeepers what the **** are they talking about !??

Keeper 1 - "I just sold a twix"

Keeper 2 - "Nice, I just gave someone 3 cola bottles and they were wearing a green cap"

Etc...

Na. There must be more to this !! I just want to ask them but I always wimp out.

sitting in the library struggling not to **** myself reading that mate haha.

popped into a shop yesterday and the chap was on his phone, didn't say a word to me while carrying out the transaction and continued with his conversation to the person on the other end of the phone. top customer service.

What were you buying?

Was it important that you spoke to each other to conclude your purchase?

Youve got one next to the BBQ chippy.

I didn't realise that. However, Tesco and the post office in St John's Road have everything I need so I shall continue to patronise them. It's a bit further to go but there's nothing wrong with a bit of exercise.

Youve got one next to the BBQ chippy. Also has one of the biggest collections of jazz mags a young schoolboy ever did see.

Having grown up in Corrie I can confirm that it is pretty much 100% white but dont believe Therapist has never been in an Asian newsagents anywhere else tho. Never duck into a newsagents in Gorgie?!?

I noticed that for the first time the other day, there's well over 100 on that top shelf.

Aint it funny how the yins who don the turban always have a broad Scottish accent! The female Asians don't really talk at all either. I've met probably most of the Asian traders in Edinburgh. About 90% of them are actually sound. The other 10% are real tossers. Ignorant bassas. Maist call me gadgey as well!
