Didn't read anything after that. The guy acts like a 13 year old schoolboy. If that impresses you then fair enough. Doesn't do much for me.

What? your kidding right? you don't like Alex Salmond?

you hide it well.

Annabel Goldie, Michael Forsyth, Malcolm Ri****d, Liam Fox, Irvine Jambo... there is a long list!

Annabel Goldie bit of a school mam might go down well with public school boys but i doubt the majority of scotland.

Forsyth come on at one point the most hated man in scotland

Ri****d as torys go seem ok if a bit wet.

Liam Fox too arrogant to appeal to a wider scotland to tory.

Irvine Jambo once out debated JFK ,Fidel Castro and Beatrix potter at a secret meeting at rejkavick some time in the eary 60s so his best selling autobiography says ,he would be my choice.

Nationalism is the root of 15% of all evil.

As for the original question, nobody because they are all petty, useless, currupt wage thieves. Get one bampot out and you have little choice but to replace them with another. Sigh.

ok. so we've established that salmond is the best out of a pretty poor crowd.

why don't you start berating the party you support for it's ineptness?

all the salmond bashing is missing the point, IMO. when hearts are crap, you don't blame celtic (ok, you probably partly, and rightly, blame the referees).

personally, i'd vote green. however, they have no useful politicians, which is why i probably wouldn't vote for them if they had any chance of getting into power - i think it's important that they are there to represent the socialist-without-the-gang-bangs point of view. my point - as they are still pretty useless, i'd rather the best politician in the country is in charge of the country. even if he is crap.

Thie thread is about an alternative to Salmond. Reid is the best alternative by along way IMO. A lot of Labour and SNP mates agree. BTW the current government took the lead role internationally in writing off third world debt and massively increased public spending on things like education and health. They introduced the minimum wage and I read recently that our poorest familier are ?90 a week better off in real terms than ten years ago. None of that offends my socialist leanings particularly since it managed to get itself re-elected 3 times.

Labour in Scotland needs someone to take it by the short and curlies and bring into the world of coalition politics. Reids my man to do it. That way they need not win the next Holyrood election can because nobody can. On the Westminster front things dont look so rosy.

Mind you its heartening to note that the Euro zone is now in recession whilst we might just avoid it - unlikely though. Where are those posters who a few weeks ago who said they were better prepared because they had put money away during the good times.

Finally, Harold Wilson famously said England winning the 1966 world Cup won Labour the next General Election. Maybe Team GB can do likewise for Team Labour GB.

yep labour increased public spending on education and health and massively increased indirect taxation (which we all pay through the nose) yet there doesn't seem to much difference in the quality of these services ? all they did was pour in cash and did nothing to sort out the massive inefficiencies that exist in these services.

they also spend billions of pounds on foreign wars and weapons of mass destruction how does your socialist conscience deal with that.

they won three elections by appealing to middle England and that's who they represent - they turned their back on socialism when Blair took over and they've virtually lost their grass root support - they had to draft in people from England to campaign in a Glasgow East bi-election - they have massive debt and they are now starting to loosing union support (the backlash at last)

they no longer run Scotland and pretty soon they'll no longer run the UK

IMO your pall John Reid has given up on politics and is happy with his new hobby at DarkHeid - wonder why :)

Why should I with socialist leanings object to increased taxation to fund public services? You have to admire how it was done painlessly in electorial terms surely?

You seem to have overlooked the fall in waiting times, improved exam results and massive building programmes for schools and hospitals. As I understand it Defence spending is still less in real terms than when Thatcher was in power. Do you disagree?

Last but not least. You seem over the moon about Labour losing control of Holyrood. I'd remind you that ther would be no Holyrood without the current Labour Government listening to the 'set will of the scottish people' as John Smith put it. The polls persistently prove that independence is not the set will of the Scottish people - support for the union is still thankfully massive.

Presume you haven't heard of the McLelland Report or Public Sector Procurement Reform then? ?100m saved in the NHS over the last three years simply down to strategically sourcing goods and services in turn saving many key front-line services! Centres of Procurement expertise have also been set up for Scottish Government, Local Authorities and Education.

No, he's just one of them. Frankly, they are all as bad as each other. More interested in one-upmanship than actually doing anything for joe blogs.

It is all part of the greatest ever achievement in the field of brainwashing, Democracy. Make people feel like they have a say, when actually what ever they do they will basically end up with the same ****e because at the end of the day it's not really the elected politicians that run the show. It's those with the moolah, who remain the same no matter who is sitting in power.

Guest S.U.S.S.

Who is better than Adolf Salmond? now thats a question.

Perhaps if he stopped his petty ill timed point scoring comments id have a little more time for him. Without fail he shows us how much of a small minded bigot he is with his constant digs at the rest of the UK.

Perhaps Scotland would do well with if we split but i for one wont vote for that venomouslittle tramp.

yep you need to pay tax to pay for public services - but you don't need to be robbed blind - every year since labour came to power we've been hit with new stealth taxes - Broon is the wizard of the pick pockets - rather than using his mental capacity on finding new ways to rob us, he should have spent time looking at 'real' ways he could make the health service and the education system more efficient and effective.

Who cares what defence spending was under Thatcher that's all water under the bridge now. As a socialist does it make you proud to live in a Britain that spends billions of pounds on foreign wars and weapons of mass destruction with pensioners and children living below the poverty line.

The reason that Holyrood came about was Labour?s (unsuccessful) attempt to quell the growing support for the SNP ? I remember all the labour rhetoric at the time saying this would finish of the SNP

If there had been no SNP mate there would have been no Scottish Parliament.

The really strange electoral system the Scottish parliament has was also careful designed by labour to make it difficult for the SNP to get full control.

Ah yes and John Smith a good socialist he represented Monklands East and lived in a stone built mansion in the leafy suburbs of Morningside - yes I?ll represent the working classes but I wouldn?t live amongst or associate with them ? I wonder what percentage of his time he spent in Lanarkshire.

If support for the union is ?massive? why are all these ?unionist? parties so scared of a straight forward referendum

If we've been robbed blind how come living standards have risen substantially over the last 10 years. Or do you deny that. Child poverty is in sharp decline and Pensioner poverty almost eradicated. I know my mother is a pensioner. The only problem with pensioners is poor take up of benefits due to pride or ignorance.

BTW I dont think Alex Salmond was born and raised in Banff and Buchan - do you? John Smith Brought devolution back as a prime policy in his first Labour Coference speech as Leader when the Tories had almost smothered it and put it in the dustbin.

As far as the referendum is concerned I'm in the Wendy Alexander 'bring it on camp'. It seems Alex and the SNP turned a blind ear. Did you?

and who brought in Public Sector Procurement Reform?

Would you not also agree that savings made by better procurement practice which aren't removed from budget but instead re-invested into frontline services is one of the 'real ways' of making the health service more efficient and effective?

It?s immaterial now when JS brought up devolution and what the Tories thought about it - I stand by what I say ? the reason that Holyrood came about was Labour?s (unsuccessful) attempt to quell the growing support for the SNP - If there had been no SNP there would have been no Scottish Parliament.

Alex was brought up in Linlithgow but he lives in his constituency now. The point I was making about John Smith was he was allegedly a socialist representing a poor and deprived area which he lived miles away from in a stone built mansion in a rich suburban area ? you can represent them but not live amongst them.

I?m sure all pensioners will be delighted to know that they no longer live in poverty ? and if they do it?s down to their own pride and ignorance.

You might be in the ?bring it on? camp but none of the unionist parties are in it with you ? if you want to ?bring it on? you need to vote for the SNP

Let the SNP bring it on then. Apparently there is a majority for it at Holyrood despite party stances. We all know why - they'd lose . Alex Salmond lives in leafy Charlotte Square BTW and I suspect has a few homes. John Smith was a socialist (not allegedly). He may also have had a few homes. Even more socialist principles. And Smith brought Devolution back from the political wilderness regardless of what you say.

Hope your right about a majority in Holyrood supporting a referendum ? so when the SNP bring forward their bill to have one in 2010 - as was in their manifesto - it gets the nod - excellent stuff.

"Alex Salmond lives in Charlotte Square" - yes that?s the First Minister official residence, he also has a house in his constituency.

John Smith had a house in London and he lived in his stone built mansion in Morningside and not in his constituency in Monklands East ? I wonder why - him being a good socialist as well????. ;)

Lets just agree to differ on what the momentum was behind the appearance of the Scottish Parliament ? you think it was John Smith?s brainchild and I think it was labour?s (failed) attempt to quell the growing support from the SNP.

Nice we agreed on something
