History repeats itself - they died because they didn't get UCL football.

In 2024 they're reborn but bust again because they bet the farm on UCL football.

But the Glasgow media says nothing.

Operation Soothe/Gonny Buy Season Tickets is taking off big-time:

Graeme Souness believes Leeds United well become Rangers' feeder club if the impending takeover goes to plan and elevates the club to another level. (Daily Record)

Is this Souness winding up Leeds fans?

I love Hearts and Scottish football. Do not care for the EPL. But pure business sense shows the true prize for this ownership group is a top flight Leeds, much more so than Rangers in UCL.

I was a bit worried about a competent ownership group taking over Rangers and fixing their shambolic ways. But as days go on this is looking more like an infusion of resources, not someone able to fix their debt ridden ways.

I suspect Leeds fans and keen observers of English football would agree with you and find Souness’ comments laughable.
The media’s slavering conspiracy to feed the notion of an Ibrox powerhouse being just round the corner is an insult to every other Scottish club.

Fair enough,

I know he is from Edinburgh,

Every time I hear him speak about rangers though, it's like he has a sash and an orange flute in his pocket.

If he wasn't growing up, he definitely is now.

I distinctly remember reading an interview with him back in the early 80's pre Rangers. He didn't specifically say he was a Hearts supporter but something along the lines of how he always 'looked out for' our results. It may have been an Edinburgh newspaper so probably a bit of playing to the gallery. He's fully assimilated into the Rangers culture now though, regardless.

The punishment from UEFA is a slap on the wrist and the threat of future sanction, as it usually is in these instances. Rangers handing out lifetime bans is entirely down to them and pretty much the harshest 'sentence' possible I'd have thought..

No I don’t think you were alone mate. Plenty of their own support are still baffled! Whether it was enough to see lifetime bans, feels more like the club had cards already marked to me.

There was an Asian religious event held at Ibrox recently. Why? Well despite their match-day rituals of anti-Catholic bile, TRFC apparently has a policy of “inclusivity”.

Now, with the prospect of outside investment (and hopes of putting the Taigs back in their rightful place), it wouldn’t be a good look to appear to be intolerant, so hosting the Asian shindig must have seemed a sound move.

Unfortunately, it seems some of the Ibrox ferals didn’t quite agree.
You can imagine the Ibrox hierarchy being a bit miffed at this undermining of their new-found sense of inclusivity. - especially the effect this might have on prospective investors.

Would the SFA have acted over the banner or is it just because UEFA got involved that TRFC sxxt the bed in case of future reduced attendances cost them dough?

That is a distinct possibility.  They might not like the American Business Management style that is about to be unloaded on them.  Seen many companies in Europe get taking over by Americans and can’t get the Europeans to change their mindset and end up cutting their losses a selling off cheap

This bit of their statement is worth bookmarking

Further, following the use of pyrotechnics at Parkhead in the Old Firm game, the club can confirm the groups responsible for their discharge will be directly impacted by the 500 ticket reduction issued as a sanction the next time the club appears in the latter stages of the Premier Sports Cup at Hampden.

The club again stresses a future use of pyrotechnics at any SPFL match may lead to a further reduction of 800 tickets at a latter-stage Premier Sports Cup match.

What will happen to the empty seats? Sit empty or be reallocated to the team they are playing (subject to segregation)

Ticket money is split 50/50. I would hope, due to these unique circumstances, this is taken into consideration, and the other club is not disadvantaged financially due to this punishment.

Well, part of TRFC’s recent statement quoted UEFA’s definition:

“It is, however, deeply saddening and frankly embarrassing that the club is now set to face significant sanctions for the actions of a very small minority.

Firstly, the club has been charged by UEFA after a handful of supporters displayed what UEFA describe as a “racist and/or discriminatory banner” at last Thursday’s Ibrox meeting with Fenerbahce.

There is a programme v rangers I have in my dads attic that states that he looks out for our results growing up in saughton during our best eras. He was at sampdoria only mention of rangers is he hoped we would win the game but it is always tough versus rangers. His old man drank at busy bee. He never mentioned huns till he joined them it was spurs liverpool and growing up as hearts fan as kid. This nonsense he used to go to Ibrox as kid he didnt. FACT

Ironically, I clicked on that article and the first advert was for a company offering to get you money back from Close Brothers. I'm sure they were the only ones who would loan newco any money initially, charged an exorbitant rate of interest and put liens on club properties.

He does deserve credit for that but I don’t think it would have gone ahead without David Murray’s approval.

I suspect for Murray it wasn’t just about signing a decent player.

He would have relished the psychological impact on Celtic of the deal and the message it sent out about who was the financial powerhouse.

And then along came that pesky McCann fella…

When he first went down south he was homesick and came back home.  There was a bit in a match programme saying he was training with Hearts.  He would be about 15 at the time. Apologies if this has been said before but I haven't bee following the thread.
