Even better for me if I'm over the border, I get a 30% discount on Coop own brand vodka, think it works out at about £13 a litre.

latest figures from National Records of Scotland, (NRS) show 1,277 people died from conditions caused by alcohol in 2023.

This was one death more than the previous year, which was the highest number since 2008

An important public health official is hardly going to say "drink more"

He'll be one of these puritanical fun police types, like your beloved SNP.

Or without the partisan spin, a guy who understands public health but doesn't have anything to do with Scottish politics, thinks Scotland has got this one right.

I was sceptical when it was first introduced because it will make no difference to my choices or lifestyle but evidence seems to suggest it will make a longer term difference.

The SNP are generally guilty of chasing short term wins. This is an unusually responsible policy that gains them little short term credit.

It's SNP/Scotgov policy so it has to be bad, no matter what. It's a policy introduced to aid public health, despite it being a vote loser.

It’ll be good now as England may follow.

You obviously have a want and desire to be told how to stay healthy and what to spend your money on.

The majority of us don't and shouldn't be the victims of uncontrolled urges by the minority of problem drinkers.

Exactly . I know that drinking alcohol is wrong on so many levels . Has it stopped me ? No . But I only drink infrequently cause I have discipline and self control . Like most people .

Thanks,  I don't.   Where's the huge savings to be grabbed if MUP goes UK wide?

The key word being "if". I don't think the English and Welsh are as subservient to the nanny state SNP Scots so expect significant resistance

It's missing the point - probably deliberately because most people are bright enough to spot it - that it is designed to change the centuries old Scottish culture of binge drinking by deterring young people from getting into bad habits. It's hardly prohibition

Yeah that's why I said if.   It's already used in Wales btw.

No a surprise that the supporters of this are all snp fanatics , well some hide it better than others . Like you said it’s a nanny state policy , education is better than a blanket policy which affects everyone .

Make people’s lives better and more meaningful and people won’t try and drink their relatively shite lives away.

The country is as depressing as I can remember in my lifetime.

I'm not an "SNP fanatic".  I voted Labour at the election.

Assuming the SNP fanatic bogeyman is lurking behind every opinion is quite informative about how much confidence you have in your own opinion.

Or we could have years and years of austerity, brexit and shitting all over the general population while filthy rich speculators plunder the national wealth.

Wonder if it ever comes into play in England if they make the price a wee bit lower than that of Scotland. Something the SNP would be slated for about of course.

New SPFL deal with Carling to be the official beer sponsor

A tinpot 'beer' to go with our tinpot league.

Scottish football is full of alcohol sponsorship, which makes the police attitude to fans drinking at odds to what the fans are being brainwashed with.
