Get rid? He did not have a great game like many of the players out there, yet you felt the need to single him out.

He’s been good for us this season, including the last couple games against Celtic, yet you want to ‘get rid’?

Couldn’t care less. A semi ****ing final against a team who turned us over in the same stadium 6 months ago. Put a marker down, let them know you’re not there to be played with. Instead, he pulls out a 50/50 and costs us a goal. If he steams into the tackle and clears the rangers player out the worst is a foul. We defended set pieces well all day.

Should head it back, I think.

If he wasn't one footed that would've be cleared

He's consistently poor in a back 4. Manager wants to play a back 4.

Unfortunately, its a decision that needs to be made. Continue on with a system the manager doesn't like to accomodate 1 player, or punt that player to bring in a competent player to play the system the manager wants.

IMO it doesn't make sense to keep him, unless he can stomach being a left back (which then brings its own questions for Kingsley & Penrice/Cochrane).

The argument is not about whether he is better or not in a certain formation, it’s questioning the thinking behind getting rid of a player after a specific game or two - as opposed to reviewing his performances across the season as whole. A season in which he’s played well. Clearly.

A real strong argument there.

Spot on. Rowles has had more poor games than good this season. Had plenty time to prove himself now and getting nowhere. Sibbick although not been great has had more a hard time for having less bad games than him. Hopefully Lewis Neilson kicks on and takes his place next season

We need to show some balls. 4 fecking minutes we lasted today and for a while we looked scared. We have a lot of soft players not up for the fight. Grant is another. He scores a couple of penalties and plays decent 2 times out of 10 hes great again. Hes part of the problem too he hid today. Too many of them never got stuck in.

IMO it doesn't make sense to keep him, unless he can stomach being a left back (which then brings its own questions for Kingsley & Penrice/Cochrane).

Where does the certainty that Naismith wants to play a back 4 come from? At the coaches night he talked about how it is horses for courses and even within a game he wants to be able to change formation repeatedly. He described a game against Rangers at Ibrox earlier in the season in detail where he and the Rangers manager played a game of cat and mouse each tweaking the system repeatedly to try and get the upper hand. We've seen Naismith deploy both for different games. I don't buy that he really wants to play a back four but can't because he is so desperate to fit Rowles in.

He has also made clear repeatedly, how much value he places on keeping possession. Based on what he has said, it seems unlikely he is going to stop instructing the team to try and build from the back and instead put in a couple of big physical centre backs who just hit the ball up the park. Again at the coaches night, he talked specifically about the role of Rowles, this time at Celtic Park, highlighting how he was brave in possession when under pressure rather than just punting the ball up the park.

Rowles really isn't the problem. Does he make the odd error? Yes - but that's why he's with us and not in the Premiership. But he's considerably better than many of our players, who struggle a bit in big games like today.

There's a lot more reasons than the odd error tbf 😂

That's as may be - but at our level the truth is that defenders will make mistakes - it's a case of how many they make and what type of errors. I would argue that Rowles makes relatively few errors and very few absolute howlers. On the other hand, with players like Atkinson and Sibbick you worry that the next error is just around the corner.

Rowles has been really solid 90% of this season. He just has ****ing brain farts for the other 10%. He's not the issue tbh. It's the midfield. It's non existent.

We need better than Rowles. He’s alright most of the time, but if we want to win trophies we need better.

Agree about midfield, although I thought Devlin and Beni did well for a large part of the game today.

I think Rowles is good, he's better than alright most of the time. Sometimes he gets too tight on his man, sometimes not aggressive enough but he's more than good enough for us most of the time. I don't think CB is an issue. They're just constantly under pressure at times because our midfield constantly turn over possession.

Devlin and Beni had good moments but also a lot of poor ones. Devlin first half when he had Matondo at LB and Vargas in the channel, had the chance to carry the ball forward, commit a player and create a chance or have a dig. Instead stood still, gave himself a longer pass and took the wrong option. Just a lack of any football brain with Devlin sometimes. He's got a lot of great defensive attributes but I want someone that can actually play midfield. No just run about.

Beni as well. Caught out of position umpteen times, lost possession needlessly. Does a lot of great work too. Carries the ball forward at times but again, need a bit more than tackles and square balls from midfield. Whereas Hoff, he can do a bit of everything in both halfs. That's a proper midfielder.

And Jorge Grant? Don't get it? Never have. No danger should he be getting a new contract.

Yeh, that's sort of what I mean; it's not errors, rather all round ability. He's pretty consistent imo. His shortcomings that stop him reaching that level aren't glaring cock ups it's just general mediocrity. It's weakness, lack of aggression, rushing out of defence to press and getting turned, poor-ish on the ball, out of position for crosses etc that stop him playing somewhere like the EPL.

Rowles made far less mistakes today than Soutar.  Yes, Rowles hesitated before fully committing himself at the first.  Unlucky that the ball rebounded to  Cantwell.

We never got the break of the ball at all today! Rowles tackle and Gordon's save could have went anywhere but both dropped to the Rangers players feet.

He’s soft. Way too soft. Shame as could be a decent CH but heart of a field mouse.

Never understood the hype. Terrible player. Hasn’t improved since we signed him. Same as Atkinson, hanging around season after season once it’s clear they’re not good enough and aren’t going to develop into the players we hope. Pathetically weak.

This is it for me. Just get rid of these duds, it’s clear as day they’ll never be good enough.
