Following behind in second place, with 1359.71mm of estimated rainfall in 2023, is the town of Ayr. Scotland made numerous other appearances in the top ten, with Perth claiming the number four spot with 1255.14mm of rainfall and Glasgow following behind in fifth with 1219.06mm.

Meanwhile, the Welsh capital of Cardiff landed in third place with 1267.85mm of rainfall in 2023. Elsewhere, London is notably absent, but it appears that the south coast of England is a prime location for rain — with Exeter and Truro placing in sixth and seventh respectively.

It is from the Daily Record though 😁

That’s really surprising. Generally the prevailing weather in Scotland comes in from the Atlantic meaning the west coast is usually wetter. Used to be Glasgow got nearly twice as much rain than Edinburgh. Must have changed.

Edinburgh is in a rain shadow with the hills and prevailing weather reducing level of rainfall. Think that’s why you see more cereal crops in the East.

Impressively unscientific, even by the legendary standards of the Daily Record.

The article says you can find out more, and gives you a helpful link - to a gaming website.

According to the Met Office itself, between 1991 and 2020 the weather station at Glasgow/Bishopton recorded an annual average rainfall of 1370 mm (54 inches), while the station at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh recorded an average of 728 mm (29 inches).

However, Edinburgh does seem to be gradually getting wetter.  In the years from 1961-1990, the annual average rainfall recorded at the Botanic Garden was 639 mm (25 inches), and the annual averages have been creeping up ever since.

Glasgow weather stations get between 50% and 90% more rain than those in Edinburgh.

That makes more sense! Just more west coast propaganda from the Daily Record!

That is exactly what I thought when I saw it was the Record. The wegie rag rarely has anything good to say about the Capital.

Think this shop will do very well.  The shop is called Uniqlo and is very popular in Asia. My wife was in on opening day and was very impressed.

Think I heard it was something to do with El Nino or nina or whatever but the gist of it was it was creating a high pressure over the Atlantic, which meant the systems were coming from the north but instead of heading into the Atlantic and then east across Blighty they were coming straight down over teh north sea and getting sucked onto the land hence the wetter East of Scotland. Summin like that!
