Geoff Kilpatrick
Gordon - 5 - Second guessed coming out of their box at the first. Couldn't help the second Kent - 4 - Nightmare of a first half cost two goals Cochrane - 7 - Lovely ball for the 3rd goal and linked up well with McKay Atkinson - 6 - Improved significantly when Vargas came on. Dodgy first half defending though Rowles - 7 - Solid throughout Baningime - 7 - Tidy performance Grant - 7 - Key first goal and linked up well Devlin - 7 - Busy throughout and finished off our best team goal of the season Shankland - 9 - MoM. Involved in all 4 goals, including his pen. Excellent throughout McKay - 8 - The perfect game for him to start. Lovely ball to Shanks for the first Oda - 7 - Scored and won the penalty through his pace and workmate Subs: Vargas - 6 - Made a difference. Unlucky not to score Kingsley - 4 - Couple of decent crosses Fraser - 4 - Tidy cameo Forrest - 2 - Wasteful in good positions Tagawa - 3 - Tried like a bear and made some excellent runs. The supply was poor, alas.

Those two plus Shanks, Cochrane, Devlin and Rowles were our best players. Gordon lucky to get a 5 tbh. Came for crosses and never got anything on them, looked shaky. Naisy has a decision to make but IMHO Clark was going to be playing in the semi anyway. Naisy sees him as our current number 1, Gordon played today to give him some minutes. If Clark is considered our number 1 there is no way he would sit out a semi and possible final. Just my opinion anyway.

Jamboross
Gordon - 5 - Absolute howler for their first and think he was easily beaten by Nottingham to a corner in the second half but on the whole didn't have too much to do. Kent - 5 - Shocking first quarter but then steadied a little. Off the top of my head probably his worst game for us. Cochrane - 7 - Excellent first half, linked well with McKay. Assume he was only subbed to rest him and give Kingsley minutes. Atkinson - 7 - A few slack passes but performed well throughout with some good tackles and blocks in defence. Would have been through on goal in the first half if Oda hadn't clattered him. Rowles - 7 - Solid. Nullified any threat from Yengi who's the sort of player I'd normally be worried about him getting bullied by. Baningime - 6 - Standard Beni performance, nothing spectacular but kept the ball moving. Grant - 8 - Started the comeback, some nice passing, links well with McKay and Shanks. Lots of folk want him shifted but I think he absolutely has a big part to play for us as part of a squad. Devlin - 7 - Some really good late bursts into the box, which got him his goal and almost a second, hope they're going to be a feature of his game going forward. Solid in midfield. Shankland - 9 - Great penalty, two assists, involved in the other goal too, back to his best. McKay - 8 - We've missed his creativity so much, that wee ball to Shanks for the first was sublime. Probably tired a little as the game went on but delighted to see him back in the team. Oda - 7 - Caused them a lot of problems and did well to get his goal and win the penalty. Poor awareness when he took out Atkinson a good game overall. Subs: Vargas - 6 - Did well, pace caused them some issues. Kingsley - 6 - Solid. Fraser - 5 - Frustrating. Good vision to pick out some decent runs by Tagawa but got the execution of the passes all wrong. I'm not a huge fan to be honest but it wasn't his worst game. Forrest - 4 - Seems to have regressed in recent weeks after his really good spell. Loses posession too often by not being aware of his surroundings. Tagawa - 6 - Didn't really have a huge number of touches but his movement is superb, he was making runs that no-one else does and had the balls into him been better he'd have been in on goal multiple times. He's worth keeping.
Pasquale for King
Harsh on Gordon, he had to come out as their players were behind Kent and Atkinson, they were looking for that ball all day. Homme
Gordon 4 - Poor performance. Huge error at first and flapped at things throughout. Kent 5 - improved second half but was all over the place in the first. Cochrane 6 - Mr reliable. Good game Rowles 7 - brilliant second half knocks him up a point. Atkinson 7 - another with a fine second half. Beni 7 - worked hard throughout and kept it simple. Devlin 7 - nice to see him on the scoresheet. Grant 7 - another good performance capped off with a goal. Mckay 7 - sublime at times. Slowly getting back to what we know he is capable of. Shankland 8 - MOTM for contributions. Scores, assists two and had a hand in the other. Oda 7 - Worked hard on his first start for a while. Took his goal well. "Largely anonymous throughout" does not square with having a big hand in two goals in the 59 minutes he was on the pitch. He had some other good moments as well including a very good left footed cross. Nobody else in the team makes the type of pass he did to Shankland before Grant's goal. Daveandal
The Gordon stuff is crazy. For the first he dug Kent and to a lesser extent Akinson out a hole. His problem was trying to play a pass. If he'd just leathered it no issue. A great save at 1-0 ( he didn't know it would be called back). Yes could have done better at the 2nd. But always looked to move it quickly. Probably a 6 today. Mr Rabbit
That was a really strange game. Thought we were awful for the first 25 minutes. Definitely the worst performance we’ve had from Kent. Gordon was also poor, both with the first goal and his kicking/ passing. Once we settled though it was great to see the link up play with Cochrane, McKay, Grant and Shankland in particular. Devlin had a really good game IMO, did all the stuff we know he’s good at but also ran beyond the strikers. Oda was a strange one as he was very involved in the goals but think he’s been a lot better. Enjoyable game though.

That being said, he was poor today. Flapped at everything that came into him unfortunately. I may be wrong but I think Clark was in goal for the semi at 3 o clock anyway today. Clark is our current number 1, I'm sure he is in Naismith eyes anyway. This was all about giving Craig minutes...... I think. No way was our present number 1 going to be asked to step aside for a semi final and possibly final. Craig will get more minutes in the league when 3rd is wrapped up. I was all for Craig getting the jersey back when he returned from injury but that ship has sailed. He hasn't played enough games to change now. Watt-Zeefuik
Devlin surprised me today. His finish for his goal was really good, he chance for the second was a narrow miss and not an easy shot at all, and the other time he had a half chance he put his foot through it well and forced the keeper to make a decent save. Great to see from him after years when he would turn into a pumpkin the moment he crossed into the opposition penalty area. As for everyone else, at some point folk need to just accept that at the end of a very long and difficult season, it is plainly human nature to let up a bit when the games start to become meaningless. The players are all carrying multiple minor knocks and injuries at this point and when the motivation is, "oh noes, if we never collect another point and Killie somehow get 10 points from 15 we might lose third" the temptation to go 80% instead of 100% is overwhelming. We woke up, put them to the sword, and saw it out. On to next week.

Not blaming Gordon, but it would be crazy to drop Zander now. If it was the intention to play Gordon in the semi he would have been playing long before now in the league surely. We were right behind the 2nd and the guy used Kent well to disguise where he was putting the shot. Saint Jambo
The idea that there are lots of Hearts fans just waiting for an opportunity to criticize Gordon is definitely one of the weirdest takes ever on jkb. I was delighted to see him in the starting line up but no question he had a stinker today. Gordon will be one of the best players I ever see at Hearts and I love him, but that doesn't change the fact he made mistakes today. Rushing out his box and not dealing with things has been a bit of a recurring issue for him over the years. I recall him making several mistakes like that at Celtic and he conceded a similar goal last season. Kent was terrible as well. Worst I've seen him play. Hopefully a one off and now out the system. From 25 minutes to 70 minutes the midfield and attack were very good, before becoming a bit of a training match for last 20. Gordon and Kent 4s. Shankland and Grant 8. All other starters 7.
