I went tonto at a mate at the Athletico Madrid game for him calling Fashanu a black poof when he could have played it back to Robbo for a easy shot.

Funny how things change because he was kinda right and I was just being righteous.

We would have gone through on away goals but I still wouldn't have dobbed him in though.

He was a regular on the gay scene in Edinburgh when he played  for hearts I  recall him  but our paths didn’t cross . He really didn’t have a chance in life as he was black , gay , brought up in a white foster family , abandoned by his birth family , treated like shit by his brother John ( he will be judged one day ) and unfortunately was in a profession which was virulently homophobic back then . He was a gambler too .  I saw him now and again in the bookies and the old Stanley casino

I had a lot of time for Justin. I can't imagine the effect the abuse and intolerance must have had on him. 30 odd years later most of us know better.

The accepted meaning is what is in print, if you or others want to portray it as something else then you are wrong.

Woke is an adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) meaning "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination".[1][2] Beginning in the 2010s, it came to encompass a broader awareness of social inequalities such as racial injustice, sexism, and denial of LGBT rights. Woke has also been used as shorthand for some ideas of the American Left involving identity politics and social justice, such as white privilege and reparations for slavery in the United States.[3][4][5]

Violence certainly isn't  the answer and getting battered for arguing with middle aged men going ooh- ooh and pretending to be apes is the sort of virtue signalling that draws contempt from bigots who get a stiffie from being erm  bigots.

Good for you for standing up to it. 👍

I still see the same guys in the wheatfield nowadays and they must be in their late 60s or 70s now. I'd like to think they have grown out of it but if not they at least have the presence of mind not to display their prejudice in public any more.

Tbf you'd need to be a complete nutter to shout or sing some of the stuff that got bandied about back then.

It's funny how folk complain about the state of things.

If football fan behaviour is indicative of society we seem to be a nicer bunch these days.

I'm glad that we don't hear that racist shite at the football.  Society has largely moved on from those days but this board demonstrates that prejudice and intolerance hasn't gone away.  There will always be people with a need to attack communities they fear or don't approve of.  It's just the targets that change.

IMG_8032.jpegGreat turnout for the “ women won’t whesh” event yesterday at the mound . I would have went but I was in Paisley . The event was marred by a loud mob who tried to prevent women speaking about their views and experiences . But none the less it was a success and some great speeches . Well done women .

I’ve an odd feeling people are confusing Lennon and McCartney here. It was Macca that wrote Give Ireland Back To The Irish.

Not entirely sure how that would be possible with no away fans at Ibrox.

Pfffttt - imagine letting something as trivial as facts get in the way of a reason to have a misguided pop at the SNP.

The only people who have anything to fear from HCA are the people who should have something to fear.

Probably explains the hysteria on here.

Perhaps social media will be properly moderated now.

The key to getting social media moderated properly isn't "hate crime" legislation.

All that needs to happen is to change the law so that social media companies are treated in the same way as any other publishers.  They permit things to be published on their platforms.  If there's anything unlawful in what's published, the responsibility for that should fall on the platform owner as much as on the writer.  That's the way it's done for newspapers, TV and radio.  There's no reason why social media should be any different.

You'd see the town getting cleaned up pretty quickly if that happened, with no need for anything like the HCA.

But that'll never happen.

I've just checked the dictionary and it says that it is "the way in which a machine, organization, or system operates.".

I'm still none the wiser.

The communist party are well known for their tolerance. A bit like OF fans. But hey they are outraged at a government that is trying to prevent hate crimes so they will be good guys too.

Possibly because you launched a one man campaign against him? But whatever the history of it you posting about how awful it is to mock someone’s employment status is a bit rich.

🤣you complain constantly about pile ons, normally imagined due to your thin skin if you’re challenged. Anyway life’s too short for bickering and I’ve got work to do.

I've read that a few times and it's not getting through to me either.

I mean, I have an analytical grasp of the meaning of the words, but I'm missing what you might call a "felt sense" of what it is they're describing.
