FOLLOWING MEETINGS THIS MORNING, THE SCOTTISH FA, SCOTTISH PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, SCOTTISH WOMENS PREMIER LEAGUE, AND SCOTTISH HIGHLAND AND LOWLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUES HAVE AGREED THAT ALL PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL MATCHES WILL BE POSTPONED THIS WEEKEND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOLLOWING THE PASSING OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II

Following meetings this morning, the Scottish FA, Scottish Professional Football League, Scottish Women’s Premier League, and Scottish Highland and Lowland Football Leagues have agreed that all professional football matches will be postponed this weekend as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

This postponement will also incorporate the Women’s Scottish Cup fixtures this weekend.

Rod Petrie, Scottish FA President: “We spoke with our counterparts across the UK this morning and in discussions with our colleagues across the professional game in Scotland it was agreed that this was the appropriate step to take following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“We will work with our clubs and members in the meantime to ensure appropriate steps are taken throughout the period of mourning.”

Neil Doncaster, Chief Executive of the SPFL, said: “Following consultation with the UK and Scottish Governments, the Scottish FA, our counterparts at the EPL and others, we confirm that all SPFL fixtures scheduled for this weekend will be postponed as a mark of respect.

“The passing of The Queen, a constant in our lives for 70 years, is a profound and momentous occasion. It is therefore appropriate that professional football marks this event with all possible solemnity.

“We will update clubs and supporters when we have clarity over official arrangements for Her Majesty’s funeral.”

All called off and rightly so. Back next Thursday. I assume next weekends fixtures will go ahead. As the funeral is the Monday rather than the weekend (according to my work emails)

A complete overreaction, undoing plans made by hundreds of thousands of people up and down the country, many of them apathetic about the monarchy. All the right wing fools who are obsessed with wokeism completely miss the irony over them being consistently over the top about Britain and the monarchy. Fair enough if you don't want to go as you are mourning (I personally don't actually agree it genuinely is mourning unless you know the person who passed) but leave everyone else to choose.

Only possible date for us to play St Mirren before the World Cup is Wednesday October 19th.

There is absolutely no way Hearts should agree to that as we would be the only League fixture. The League Cup 1/4 finals are being played on that midweek and we will have had European games the proceeding 2 Thursday and have European games the following 2 Thursday's. Not only that we have a trip to Aberdeen on Sunday 16h and Celtic at home on Saturday lunchtime on the 22nd. There is no need for us to squeeze that fixture in when no other League games will be played, plenty time post World Cup.

I would have preferred the game to go ahead as well because I could do with a distraction from ghoulish and contrived blanket coverage of people trying to out grief each other as always happens at these times

Still, with our injuries and current form, it'll benefit us (probably check this post next year when the games are squeezed in and we'll lose it anyway!)

Putting your personal and political views to one side:

- Players get a weeks rest from games

- Kio might get his work permit

- Halkett might be fully back

- Gives RN a small chance to take stock and work on whatever the hell is going wrong with us right now

- New players extra time to bed in

Appreciate it's a late call for those who have booked travel arrangements but this is a good thing for us, football wise.

Why should everything stop because someone who 99% of us are not related to, never knew and have never met has passed away?

She's not going to notice. Ashes to ashes dust to dust. Her time has come and gone.

I disagree.

I am a republican and a socialist, but I had great respect for the Queen personally, although certainly not for the institution or most of the rest of the family. If you look past the strangulated vowels and the privileges there was clearly a woman of great character, forbearance, personal warmth and decency, especially when compared to the rest of them; it might be an age thing.

I remember sitting on my dad's shoulders on the steps of the GPO in Princes Street at the age of three in 1952 and watching her go by, so she has been around all of my life and she was of the same generation as my parents, who experienced the war and all that entailed, so it's worth cutting people of my age group a little slack I think.

Hopefully her death will lead to the monarchy and all that it underpins crumbling, and it's also worth remembering that the cancellation of Sunday's game gives Halkett more recovery time.

There’ll likely be another postponement for her funeral too.

With our current form and injury list this isn’t a bad thing I don’t think. It is a bad thing for on here though as it’ll mean this place will be pretty unbearable until next Thursday at the earliest.

Excellent post . But think football and other entertainment should continue as normal . Don't think that would be disrespectful.

Agree to differ . Definitely an age thing though . I'm fairly fervently anti monarchy though I stood quietly last night .

Saw the queen at Humbie 53/54 .

Suppose we grew up throughout her reign (dreadful word)

Presumably the Motherwell game is goosed as well due to the funeral. They'll have to reschedule them for after the WC - much more room in the calendar then surely.

Absolute nonsense, if people feel the need to indulge themselves in her death then so be it, that's their choice, but don't force others who have zero interest in events to abide by the fake grieving process that's being forced upon us, because those of us who would rather the games went ahead now have no choice, and that's absolutely wrong.
