Washington and Clare

Watching Conor Washington and Sean Clare on Sky, in action for Charlton against Portsmouth at Fratton Park. Washington scored the first, and Clare's cross-shot led to the OG for the second. Think both might have struggled to get into our current lineup.

Tom Hardy’s Dug

Both would work as squad members in the current team.

Washington would get more starts than Clare - and would likely be second top goal scorer for us this season if he had been around. Would suit coming in from wide and finishing chances in the box IMO.

Liked Washington tbf, bit unlucky with injury when he was starting to look good. Maybe not prolific but always put in a shift.

Team was just shite overall. 😐😕

Was thinking that, Clare could be the Andy Halliday equivalent for the right side, would've been cover for Smith until Natty Akka came along

As per usual from that time we played him with a muscle injury and made it worse…

Pompey are closer to the relegation zone points wise than they are to the play offs

Thought the Cowley brothers would have been a good fit for them but it's not going that well for them.

First time I've ever heard Wash speak, was expecting a Nordie accent, and he sounds like Lee from The Office!

Clare was honking and no where near the level of Halliday.

Clare was not honking when played in the right position. Halliday is the same, really good in one particular position, mince everywhere else.

Liked both of them. Think Clare would have been a useful squad player and I think Washington would have improved the starting 11.

Part of an awful period though so glad to leave it behind us. Best of luck to them both though, seemed nice guys.

Clare was a good player in a poor team. He lacked confidence and being booed by Hearts fans didn't help. He could have been an excellent RWB for us this season and was a better penalty taker than Boyce.

Clare  has had no major success as a football player…. Halliday has a much better football CV.

Clare’s best position was in the stand. A very average player in a poor Hearts team.

Very few of our current team have any major success as football players. Halliday won some trophies with the Huns - woop de do, I could win trophies with that mob

Lovely Ye old Jambos -  Had a fiver on Washington first goal at 17/2 then had couple of quid on Clare for 2nd goal at 22/1 Unlucky as he supplied the cross for the second,  a beauty own goal header !!

The idea that Halliday has had 'major success' in a huge stretch.

Clare was a bit of an enigma,  I thought he was better than the players we had when he was here,  he got stick from the Hearts support because (in my opinion) the players around him were not on his wavelength.
He was a false number 9 but was played at right back,  Stendel got the best from him by giving him a bit more freedom of movement.  A lot of fans were clueless as to how good he was.  Yet, he has done little since leaving us.  Ha ha,  he really is misunderstood by all except me,

Washington was and is a good pro.

He has achieved more and played at a higher level than Clare ever will.

Didn't mind Washington. Good work rate. A bit like Stephen Elliott back in the day.

Didn't score enough goals though.

Clare started off rubbish but was fine at the end. Don't think he suited to playing up here however.

Not the same thing though, is it?  For that matter Joel Periera played at a higher level than both of them, and that proves sod all about his ability.

Clare would have been better suited to the system we play now as a RWB but Atkinson is looking like an upgrade.

Not sure Washington would get much game time though.

Liked them both.  In a better squad with a better manager they’d have been great for us.  Great lads as well with great attitudes.

3 superb goals. A cool Clare pen. Bozanic, eh? Who would've thought? Oh, and Washington's goal was class.

One of the best things that night was scanning the home stands when Hibs got their consolation goal and we let out an enormous ironic, mocking cheer. You can kinda see it on these highlights ... the empty seats, and can certainly hear our cheer.

Has he? Not meaning to get on your back but seems like you're looking for things to bash Clare with.

Halliday has never won anything you could consider a major success and as far as I can see, he's never played at a higher level than Clare either.
