Took their goals well (2nd a mistake from the Civil GK) CSS goals from a pen and 2 corners decent value for £7 Another 3-2 win for CSS at home to Bonnyrigg. A surprise result but fully deserved. It was helped by the Bonnyrigg keeper Alastair Adams letting what should have been a a routine stop through his legs in the first minute. The keeper continued to create uncertainty in the away defence during the first half. He was subbed at half time for apparently losing the plot in the dressing room. CSS's other two goals were both well taken. Rangers B already looking strong with a 3rd win without conceding a goal although East Stirling almost grabbed an equaliser late on when they hit the post. Smack
Ahead of some of the Challenge Cup games I was looking for a form line for the 'Colt' teams or whatever we are calling them but came up empty. Is there actually a league in place for these teams, do Hearts play regular league games at that level? Any help appreciated, realise I might have been staring at the forest and missing the trees. ETA this seemed the most appropriate place to ask this question 👍 Edited August 10, 2021 by Smack

Footballfirst
I watched the Edinburgh South v Tranent EoS Q Cup tie at Dalkeith on Tuesday night. Tranent won 6-0, going on 12. It was the first time I had seen Tranent this season. They appear to be continuing to build on the last couple of years' improvements, so should be a good bet for the EOSFL Premier League. Whether or not they will be good enough to beat the WOSFL champions in the playoff for a LL place will be interesting to see. As others have said Matty Knox is their playmaker. Hearts were linked with him a few seasons back. Other ex Hearts academy players there are Shaun Rutherford, Kyle Lander and Rhys Craigie. I always find Calum Elliot's touchline manner a tad unusual, as he is so softly spoken. Doesn't fit in with the standard shouting and swearing that you normally hear from the dug outs at that level. Lfhearts
Tranent have money behind them, if they need a player they seem to be able to get whoever Calum decides fits in and it works mainly. Was at Tynecastle v Broxburn on Saturday, 2-1 for visitors going on 6 or 7, can see why Calum left they don't have the clout that Tranent have. Ive played under Calum as recently as a couple of seasons back and his soft spoken manner can be misinterpreted as you say. When he wants to he can go for it! Enjoyed my time under him and he said from day one his goal is to manage at the top level and he wants his players to follow suit in the progression side of things. He’s going about it in the correct way IMO. He could follow Courts I reckon in getting a big job out of nowhere.

They work back from the final, to determine when each division should enter the competition. Round 1 sees all the tier 5 clubs (34) entering the competition, however they need 30 ties in round 1 to make up the correct number of teams to progress to for round 2 and beyond. That means they need 26 clubs from the preliminary round(s) to make up the 30 ties (60 clubs). All licensed clubs (37) at tier 6 and below are allowed to enter the competition in the preliminary round, which means 11 ties and 15 byes. I was thinking in terms of needing 26 teams to go through, when I should have been thinking in terms of needing 11 teams to go out, and the only (fair) way to go out of a cup is to lose a game. I agree, but it would take turkeys voting for Christmas to change the number of relegation places. The Universities have the problem of not having their full squads available until term time, e.g. today, Edin Uni only named four subs. There was a huge gulf between the clubs and result was never in doubt . Seems a strange thing to say as he didn’t score , but the forward who impressed the most was the Edinburgh no10 . I do enjoy going to the LL games but like every other league there’s a difference in standards between the teams
