Just two games today, no early game!

But dear god one of these is a mouth-watering prospect.

Match 1) Hungary vs Portugal - 1700 BST

Coming from Puskas Arena, Budapest, Hungary

Hungary

In Qualifying, Hungary finished 4th in Group E, 1 point off 3rd place and 2 points off 2nd place in a tight group with a record of 4 wins, no draws and 4 defeats.

This was not good enough to book an automatic qualifying spot.

But due to their performance in the 18/19 Nations League, they got a play-off spot.
In League C Group 2 (Finland, Hungary, Greece, Estonia), they finished 2nd, 2 points behind Finland with a record of 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses.
This was good enough to both gain promotion to League B and to get a Euro 2020 playoff spot.

In the playoff semi final they crushed Bulgaria 3-1, with the Bulgar's goal being a last minute consolation.
In the playoff final against Iceland, they trailed early on and looked like going out before scoring twice in the 88th and 94th minutes to bag their place at the Euro 2020 finals.
In the 20/21 Nations League, they won League B Group 3 (Hungary, Russia, Serbia, Turkey) by 3 points ahead of Russia with a record of 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat (to Russia by the odd goal in a 5-goal thriller)
Promoted to League A, which was their second promotion in a row.
In World Cup Qualifying, they've drawn 3-3 with Poland, beaten San Marino 3-0 and beaten Andorra 4-1.
Pre-tournament Friendlies produced a 1-0 win over Cyprus and a 0-0 draw with Republic of Ireland.
Hungary are undefeated in 11 international games.
These guys are not shite.

Portugal

In Qualifying, Portugal finished 2nd in Group B, 3 points behind Ukraine with a record of 5 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss (to Ukraine).
In the 20/21 Nations League they finished 2nd in League A Group 3 (France, Portugal, Croatia, Sweden) with a record of 4 wins, 1 draw (with France) and 1 loss (to France).
Portugal had been defending Nations League Champions but have not progressed to the knock-out stages, which play later this year.
World Cup Qualifying has brought a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan, a 2-2 draw with Serbia and a 3-1 win over Luxembourg.

Recent Friendlies saw a 0-0 draw with Spain and a 4-0 spanking of Israel.
Portugal are the defending European Champions.

A damn good side even if you took away their talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Far more than a one man team.

Match 2) France vs Germany - 2000 BST

Coming from the Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany.

France

In Qualifying, they won Group H by 3 points ahead of Turkey with a record of 8 wins, 1 draw (1-1 with Turkey) and 1 loss (to Turkey by 2-0).
In the 20/21 Nations League they won League A Group 3 (France, Portugal, Croatia, Sweden) by 3 points ahead of Portugal with a record of 5 wins, 1 draw (0-0 with Portugal) and no losses.
They have qualified for the knock out stages of the tournament, which will be played later this year.

They play Belgium in their semi final. Tasty.

In World Cup Qualifying, they've drawn 1-1 with Ukraine, beaten Kazakhstan 2-0 and beaten Bosnia 1-0.

Pre-tournament Friendlies produced two 3-0 wins, over Wales and Bulgaria.

They did manage to lose a friendly 2-0 to Finland halfway through the nations league, though. Not sure why you'd play a friendly during a tournament. But there you go.

One of the hot favourites for the whole shebang.

Unless, of course, they dissolve into in-fighting and factional nonsense like French sides have in the past.

Reports of friction between Giroud and Mbappe are abound already.

Germany

In Qualifying, they won Group C by 2 points ahead of the Netherlands, with a record of 7 wins, no draws and 1 loss (4-2 to the Netherlands, at home).

In the 20/21 Nations League, they finished 2nd in League A Group 4  (Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine) with record of 2 wins (both against Ukraine), 3 draws and 1 loss (6-0 against Spain, ouch).

World Cup Qualifying has seen Germany beat Iceland 3-0, beat Romania 1-0 then somehow lose to North Macedonia 2-1.

Pre-tournament Friendlies have produced a 1-1 draw with Denmark and a 7-1 win over Latvia.

A team in transition.

Transitioning from being a consistently good team that always got to the knock-out stages of any given tournament to being completely unpredictable and always on the verge of a humiliating result.

Joachim Low has been manager for 15 bloody years, which is about 7 years too long.

I have no idea how they'll perform.

And neither do you.

And neither do they.

Hungarian dictator has spent £2billion on football in the last few years.

The village he comes from, Felcsut (pop 1,688) has a football team and they've gotten £100million in state funding.

They finished 2nd in the top league last year.

Think Gretna on a big scale.

The giant stadium being used today cost £450million.

55% of all media is now state owned so it's wall to wall football, mixed with uber-nationalism and propaganda.

If nothing else there'll be a great/toxic atmosphere in this game.

Not sure what it is, considering that UEFA provide the pictures to both channels but it does feel worse on ITV somehow.

Maybe have to push a few buttons and move a few sliders on their mixing desk?

Only the BBC are doing a 4K broadcast of the games, ITV (STV) don't have that capability yet I don't think.

Hurray to lower resolution for the sake of adverts at half time.

Ronaldo's missed 2 now that Robbo would have buried.

I'd have buried at least one of them.

Hartson really is clueless, and people moan about minorities getting these jobs ahead of him 🙈

Cue John Hartsons pearls of wisdom any second now as the boredom sets in.

Lovely to see a full house. We can’t be far away now.

Well we had 12k yesterday and staying in level 2 for another month today so depends on what far away means really.
Budge said she didn’t think we would see a full house next season and it wouldn’t surprise me if she was right.

It’s just his swinging both arms around when he jumps and misses the ball, not intentional 🙈

I can't help but think Hungary might sneak a 1-0 win.    I'd like to hear that crowd go wild celebrating.

The new rule about waiting to raise the flag once the phase of play is complete is total horseshit.

That was miles offside, so flag immediately. Ffs.

Anyway, up ye Hungary
