Worst ever purchase

What’s been your worst ever purchase or investment?

I spend ridiculous amounts on clothes that generally only see the light of day once every few months.

I invested in a buy to let property a few years ago. Make around £200 a month or so from it but on the odd occasion it’s empty or the tenants are a pain in the arse then it’s often more hassle than it’s worth and I’d be better just putting abit more effort or hours into the day job.

I bought a golf set for a couple hundred quid intending to play golf to stay out of the pub abit more. Ended up playing a total of two rounds of golf and now spend most Sunday’s in the golf club!

Any babies toys that make ****ing noises.

There was a record/CD released around the late 90s or early 00s that was called “If you buy this record, your life will be better”.

I bought it from HMV in the St James centre.

It’s hard to gauge but I’m not sure what impact that purchase has made.

A "waterproof and breathable" coat from a company called Fortis/Country Covers, it cost nearly 300 quid, it was a sweat suit the leaked, quite an achievement. I waited nearly a year for them to get the coat in the pattern, material and size that I ordered then nearly a othe year and a threat of court action via trading standards to get a refund, shite experience,so much for bying British.

Scooter.

Paid £100 for the CBT then £600 for the scooter, had it for a month and nearly killed myself on it. Barely rode it again and sold it. Absolute waste of time and money.

My last van. Timing belt/Chain snapped after the Rangers game at Murray field, and ended up being towed by all the way home from the Junction 1 sign.

I wished I had witnessed that.

Especially if I knew it was you.

Dunno if I've asked you before oz but how come a paisley boy supports the Hearts ?

Bought a Canada Goose jacket once. Had it for about 3 years and wore it maybe 5 times. Far too warm for this country. 700 quid it cost me, sold it to a boy I work with for 250.

You'll probably never know, right enough, but the way to look at it is just to assume that your life would have been really, really, shite if you hadn't!  :whistling:

Just love them, bud. Just everything about us.  I was a Rangers fan until i was 9 and I couldn't go the sectarianism any longer. It was constant with my mates, its all they played on their hifis.

I'm just glad I am, and hopefully my tax rebate comes through soon, so I can get my season ticket back, after a couple of years out.

Oh and I'm also a big Redskins fan, bit of theme with colours. :D 👍

Bet it made life better for the guy who cashed in from your purchase

Ohh I have few bad investments that for sure.

A house I bought it was probably my biggest regret, its a complicated story but needless to say it was the wrong decision. Invested heavily in the Woodford Fund, that didn’t turn out so well. Both were costly mistakes.

Indirectly, my wife bought a Christmas Tree at just shy of a grand. She had no idea why it offended me so much. Still ****ing riles me😡

I feel really bad for people who invested cash in Woodfords latest funds. Lost track if the story a bit recently but are you getting some cash back.

Got out of Woodford just in the nick of time but currently taking a bit of a hit on some other suspended fund that was locked late March.

That’s very unlucky to have invested in 2. I’ve got some cash in a uk based real estate investment trust that has tanked around 25% since March. Sure we’ve all got our success stories in investing but stings a bit when it backfires ☹️

A conservatory! £16K for a room that's too hot in the summer and baltic in the winter

Oh aye and Woodford for a slice of my pension - thankfully not a chunk

Yeah the fund was taken over and dissolved. So got cashed out, its all been paid out and rei-invested. Maybe a last little bit in hard to sell stocks. Can’t lie took a hit, however, nature of beast.

The most frustrating thing was I was going to pull from the find about a year before it all started to go down hill but got talked out of it.  The returns weren’t there and his positioning began to concern me,, was persuaded on the basis of his track record and pre that fund I had done well from him.

Some pension fund got hurt badly though.

He took a few strange positions and showing his hand publicly was a stupid move imo. I think he began to buy into on hype, as a few us did.

I think he definitely bought his own hype and thought that everything he touched was going to turn to gold. Loads of folk followed him from invesco and expected the same again. I don’t know how he sleeps at night to be honest. Mad gambles on private equity and then continuing to take his hefty percentage from a floundering fund really sticks in the craw. Totally betrayed the trust that people had in him.

Happens to us all at some point if we invest long term I suppose. ☹️

I put my wife's life savings in the the Woodford fund. She was nervous of investing in stocks so I guaranteed that any money she lost I would cover the losses. Fortunately for both of us I sold it all when it was 36% up on launch price - I had a gut feeling too much money was going in and it wasn't growing anymore so thought he might have run out of investment ideas. It could've been ouch for me! I still lost a bit of money but no idea how much as it was indirectly invested through Hargreaves Lansdowns Fund of funds....

My worst buys are a few things I've bought on Amazon, particularly when drunk and they seem to be mainly things for the house or car, including an electric car jack, as I was fed up of manually putting the wife's winter tyres on, then she decided to sell that car...

Glad you escaped without getting burned.

Amazon make it so easy to buy shite online. It’s not the first time I’ve had a delivery and forgot all about it only to find I’d ordered something I neither wanted or needed. A set of four mirrored oven trays arrived during lockdown 😂. I’ve got absolutely no need for mirrored oven trays. The wife got new (non mirrored) ones a couple of months ago.

I had no losses on Woodford so glad of the escape. Your Uk Property fund sounds familiar to my locked one, same category at least.

Mine isn’t locked but could well be at some point  It’s a dodgy area at the moment. I thought about pulling out when it dropped about 5% just before lockdown. By the time I procrastinated it had tumbled.

Restalrig/Lochend...worst part of Edinburgh by a long shot these days.

One of my worst ever purchases, was being suckered in by this fish van that appeared in our street. They said they were from the south east coast and only in the area this one time (now I know why) Spent a small fortune, because it was reasonably priced. The whole fek’n lot went in the bin🤬

I can probably tell you my parents worst. They bought me a skateboard for Christmas. Shortly after going out on it, I fell off and it went under a double decker bus and exploded in to bits.

A few years ago when we were expecting our first child I got my wife a new car. A Vauxhall Astra.

Nothing particularly wrong with it but I didn't try the pram in the boot with the dog (we like to drive to country parks and take the dog).

Needless to say both didn't fit in the boot 🤣 so had to get rid of said car a few months later for a bigger car. At a loss.
