AlphonseCapone
2 hours ago, Lord BJ said: The way I see it........ The biggest factor in the increase is releasing lockdown. We locked down and when you unlock infections were always going to increase. Its not surprising the 20-29 group would face the biggest increase. They are generation who has been encouraged to get the economy running from returning to work/education to Socialising with government incentives. Whilst they are the generation of low paid job which brings its own issues. They are even perhaps more likely to break the rules because they are so low risk. However, adherence to rules is a individual choice in reality not defined by age. I’m not dismissing your personal experience but I can’t say i have seen groups of twenty somethings breaking the rules. My experience is twenty somethings are grown ass adults and adhere to the rules its more the kids/teenagers I see hanging about in groups or whatever. Whilst any Resteraunt/pubs I have been in have adhered to the rule impeccably. I have to be honest I find the rule remarkably well adhered to, all things considered. Though that is just my experience. The language that is being used is incredibly ill judged and does nothing to address the issue. It tries to apportion blame for any future spread to the ‘young generation’ . By all means have targeted campaigns or whatever to change behaviour but the narrative of blame the young is nonsense. However, the spread is not so much because a few bad twenty somethings not following the rules its cause we’re opening back up and living life outside our own four walls. A huge issue was lockdown is we went in with no exit strategy and we now face the consequences of unwinding. If Hancock and the govt believe coming out with the ‘don’t kill your granny’ narrative will have a constructive impact on the behaviour they are ‘supposedly’ trying to address they are even more incompetent than I believed. As I have alluded I think its a political strategy of pass the buck. Good post. I think you're correct that of course cases will rise as we unlock, it's all about making sure the NHS isn't overwhelmed which currently due to it mainly being younger folk contracting the virus, it isn't. The vast vast majority of people in my experience are following the rules, just getting on with it. The young, am I still the young 🤔 maybe I'm biased, are being absolutely set up here. Get our economy going again please but if you kill granny it's all your own fault. Ray Gin
Do not think that because you are under 70 that this virus poses no threat to you. https://www.statnews.com/2020/07/27/covid19-concerns-about-lasting-heart-damage/ "Two new studies from Germany paint a sobering picture of the toll that Covid-19 takes on the heart, raising the specter of long-term damage after people recover, even if their illness was not severe enough to require hospitalization. One study examined the cardiac MRIs of 100 people who had recovered from Covid-19 and compared them to heart images from 100 people who were similar but not infected with the virus. Their average age was 49 and two-thirds of the patients had recovered at home. More than two months later, infected patients were more likely to have troubling cardiac signs than people in the control group: 78 patients showed structural changes to their hearts, 76 had evidence of a biomarker signaling cardiac injury typically found after a heart attack, and 60 had signs of inflammation." https://www.statnews.com/2020/08/12/after-covid19-mental-neurological-effects-smolder/ Even people who were never sick enough to go to a hospital, much less lie in an ICU bed with a ventilator, report feeling something as ill-defined as “Covid fog” or as frightening as numbed limbs. They’re unable to carry on with their lives, exhausted by crossing the street, fumbling for words, or laid low by depression, anxiety, or PTSD. As many as 1 in 3 patients recovering from Covid-19 could experience neurological or psychological after-effects of their infections, experts told STAT, reflecting a growing consensus that the disease can have lasting impact on the brain. Beyond the fatigue felt by “long haulers” as they heal post-Covid, these neuropsychological problems range from headache, dizziness, and lingering loss of smell or taste to mood disorders and deeper cognitive impairment. Dating to early reports from China and Europe, clinicians have seen people suffer from depression and anxiety. Muscle weakness and nerve damage sometimes mean they can’t walk. Every death is horrible and I don't like the way some journalists have been saying 'just' or 'only' x number of deaths. It's important to have some perspective though. If you compared those 7 deaths to numbers who've died from other causes in the same time period, it would certainly make people think. For example, I know the number of people who've taken their own lives in the past 3 months is a lot more than 7. And that's sadly just one of a huge number of other causes of death. It's not acceptable to have a hierarchy for causes of death. Everyone regardless of their condition deserves access to treatment. That isn't being provided at the moment. No matter your opinion on the virus threat and how it's been handled, everyone sshould be looking at that and questioning why hospital staff have been told not to speak out publicly. Victorian
Jason Leitch spoke about the rise in infections and the likely impact and timescales. He reckons a month between seeing increases in infections and a related increase in hospital admissions. What was mentioned yesterday and today. Relaxed about not seeing the sharp end figures rising? Wait a while, this may well change for the worse. What do people want? Ongoing sensible vigilance and any necessary measures... or another lockdown?
