Each state can assign its electoral college votes as it wishes.

Maine and Nebraska choose to split theirs based on the winner getting a baseline number and then the rest being divided up by vote proportion.

Thanks, its a learning curve

is that correct? I thought it was by congressional district but admit I could be wrong.

Thanks again Justin.

It's so inconsistent and ridden with anomalies. The 3 votes minimum for minuscule population states is seriously dodgy and probably hands an unfair built in advantage to the Republicans.

Exit polling showing that registered Republicans voted for Trump 93% of the time, up from 90% in 2016.

What a blinder Biden played, reaching across the aisle while carpetbombing progressives.

Thanks especially go the Lincoln Grifters, er, Project.

This is not aimed at you but I hate the word progressives, especially when it’s used by people speaking about themselves. Such a self-righteous term

Yep, you're right, it's not really proportional. I blame the jet lag.

Anyway the main point is, they are the two that don't do it on a whole state basis.

“Socialist” has been deemed verboten by American propaganda, and let's not even get into “communist”.

I dunno what folk on the actual left (i.e. not liberals) are supposed to refer to themselves anymore tbh. That's probably also by design.

No worries and good luck with the jet lag. Mind you, I feel jet lagged and I haven’t flown for a year.

Can I assume you're finally back then? If so, congrats.

Something tells me that Georgia might swing this.

Much more likely to be Pennsylvania. Trumpet's lead has shrunk from 700k to 470k with 20% of votes to come, mostly postal ones in Pittsburgh & Philly.

I had CNN on earlier and you'd never guess they and Trump had a falling out. Biased as it gets haha

I caught a bit of the BBC coverage. They seem to be a lot braver today in calling him out for his arseholery; giving his quote and then saying, "for which there is absolutely no evidence."

Trumps won ffs with 290 EC votes. Bidens got 259 or something.

Trumps skooshed it. Not even close.

Biden is a certainty now. Though they've magiced up 500,000 votes from somewhere for Trump in Arizona.

CNN going on about something to do with postal votes in Pennsylvania not moving through the system at all yesterday, about 30K or more.

Didn't catch it all, but heard something about a judge wanting answers from the postmaster general or something.

For reference, this is what the map looked like in 1980:

1980 United States presidential election - Wikipedia

Crikey, how fascinating. What a thrashing the still alive today Jimmy Carter took. But what strikes me even more is the allocation of Electoral College votes and how much they differ from today, which I suppose is a reflection of population shifts.

Perfectly entitled. In fact, bash on. Time is against them, as per their own WI Supreme Court's legislation.

There was a recount in Wisconsin 4 years ago and it led to a net gain for Trump of 131 votes. Biden is up by 20,000 this time.

Carter is a gentleman and an absolute ledge.

Absolutely on the population shifts. What a difference for Arizona and Nevada, for example!

Not to mention huge shrinkages in the Mid West with the decline if heavy industry since then. Presumably it was 270 to win back then too? I always liked Jimmy Carter. Just a shame the Iranian thing destroyed his election hopes. How embarrassing to lose to dawdery old fool Reagan.

I think it's simply meant to be the opposite of conservative.

Sadly no chance that Dems will gain a majority in the Senate.

What a farce the Senate is. Crazy they it's referred to as a democratic institution. Saw some stat the other day (might have been a near future projection but still) that 30% of the population are represented by 70% of the senators and vice versa. 😄

It’s completely insane that every postal vote wasn’t received and counted in time for polling day. That’s the whole fecking point of it. What a shambles

Not sure of the chronological order and if it would make any difference this time but Pennsylvania changed their timings to allow later receipt of votes, which was approved at Supreme Court.  However, remember the current incumbent President put one of his pals in charge of the USPS who just happened to make changes to suppress the ability to vote by mail.

I think it was PA Secretary of State on re postal date marks that can't be read and they said envelopes can be tracked end to end and only a v.small number can be disputed and won't be counted.

Mind you a journalist asked if a postal ballot arrived on election day with no post date mark what would happen and was told as it had arrived on election day of course it would be counted.

That means nothing will get done in Washington, even if Biden wins.

Hopefully Biden is elected but i do worry about the Dems foreign policy. Trump must be one of the only presidents not to have been involved in invasions or wars in other countries. However his middle East policy has inflamed the situation there , moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem. being one of the those.

To be fair, it's not meant to be a democratic institution at all; it's decidedly republican, and the whole point is that this can happen.

A rough analogy would be that Malta has the same number of representatives in the European commission as Germany (one each).

Intake it Bernie Sanders is just unelectable because he’s been classed as a communist by republicans and that has stuck?

should add, I’m asking because I find it amazing that Biden is deemed the most electable candidate.

Well as we have seen the past 18 hours or so, Biden as the “most electable” is an absolute canard, parroted uncritically by a corporate media interested only in their own ratings and class interests.

Instead the Democrats have lost seats in the House, won't regain the Senate, and barely look to have won the presidency.

I have already shared a few thoughts why I think Sanders would have won this in a landslide, further up the thread.
