Apparently he won in a campaign where neither his party nor Sunak were mentioned.

Sunak yet to comment though he has said the win in Teeside shows the Conservatives will win the General Election.

Mordaunt reckons Labour will "wreck the country again".

Wreck it again like... wreck it like the last Labour gvt?   Or wreck it again like... it's just had a 14 year wrecking from the Tories?

The wee rat tipped up at Tees Valley to celebrate Ben Houchen being re-elected mayor.  Dozens of Tory placards.   Shame he had to campaign while disowning his party.  An absolute piss take of the voters to then plaster TORY all over the result.

The people of Teeside are thick as feck.

The open corruption surrounding the "freeport" there is staggering.

I like how Tice blamed "the electoral system in this country"  for them not getting any seats despite getting 17% of the vote in the constituencies where they had a candidate.   He claims to now be an advocate for "a form of PR" ......

:jambobanana:

tbf, he did mention the possibility that the Tories might come round to that way of thinking too if they have a prolonged period playing 2nd fiddle to Reform.

Imagine the scenes if that ever happened ......

Doesn't look too bad for the Conservatives.

On the scoreboard they are winning by 30 (463 seats won, 433 seats lost).

I struggle to get you head around the council elections but for dafties like me are the results showing that E&W are rejecting the extremism division and culture wars promoted Dacre, Neil and Tufton Street?

Whether Labour are the answer or not it does give me some hope that the appeal ofscreeching, squealing and hating is maybe running its course and society may be able to return to some form of more reasonable discourse.

We're seeing Reform stealing large numbers of tory votes because the only people still voting Tory are the terminally thick and the racists.

Reform are all in on that message so they're taking whatever is left of the Tory vote.

Everybody normal switched to LibDems or Labour a couple of years ago.

The GE is going to be a total wipeout.

Just to try and pin some of this down.  Forget the division, anger and froth that Tufton Street has generated and sent their screechbots out of control.   And I don't know the answers.  What do we know about the performance of the UKG on their missions?

Halving inflation: For context what was inflation at the current UKG administration were elected? What was it when PM was appointed. What is it today?

Economy :  What was level of growth (GDP) when UKG were elected, when PM was appointed and today

Debt: As above

Waiting Lists? As above

How many small boats arrived: As above

I think what Sunak's saying is that the voters who stuck with the tories yesterday will stick with them at the GE - i.e there'll be a complete wipeout of the fokkers.

I hope so, at least.

West Mids close between a Tory who's ashamed of his party and the pro-Israel stance of Labour.

Quote

Heading back to the ICC in Birmingham, where it's a tense atmosphere as votes for the West Midlands mayoral race are being counted.

Labour and the Conservatives both think this contest is on a knife edge.

Similar counts are taking place in the other six council areas that make up the West Midlands Combined Authority, adding to the drama as bits of information and rumour flow through to us here.

Conservative candidate Andy Street hopes his own personal brand is distinct enough from the national party and that enough people who are fed up with the government have lent him their vote.

The Labour campaign are concerned that support for pro-Palestinian independent Ahkmed Yakoob could cost them dearly.

We don’t know yet if he’s been supported by disaffected Labour voters or people who wouldn’t have voted at all if he wasn’t standing.

There are very nervous faces all round.

People were saying the Conservatives put up Susan Hall as their candidate because they didn't want to win London.

Something about trying to make Sadiq Khan a vote winner for them at the General Election.

Nominate an idiot to run a vicious, hate-filled, racist campaign, hoping it'll be so toxic that you lose, so you can run the same vicious, hate-filled racist campaign a few months later in a General Election?
