Where is Edinburgh?s best chip shop?

Nowhere near Edinburgh but if you are ever in Oban there are 2 chippies on the main road in the town. Cant remember their names but one of them over-looks the bay. Both have a sit-in part as well.

OMG! this is how a fish supper should be!!! I think its Cod they use instead of haddock. Completely different experience to anything through this way.

Chippy at the town hall in Musselburgh is quite good. The one across the road from Lucas Ice Cream shop.

Also, they have just opened a drive through chip shop (really) in Port Seton on the site of the old Ship Inn Hotel & boozer on the main road through the town.

Its built and open but the drive through bit isn't operational as yet. I suppose they will be waiting for the "trip down the coast with the family" brigade in the summer months before they open it.

Carlos is what its called. Chips not too bad either. Modern, sit in facilities, toilets, TV's on the walls, off street car parking etc.Think he's also got another chip shop in Portobello high street.

Mr Brightside

Can't say I've heard many complaints myself, but since Xmas/New Year ive been trying my best to avoid takeaways, so ive not been in for a while.

Barracuda with its made to order suppers has always been better IMO, but Gio's must be a goldmine. It's always heaving. Saturday tea time there always a queue out the door - and that's with a seven staff chain gang behind the counter

They are my 2 local chippys both good. Never seen so many staff in a chippy as Gios. Think portions are bigger in the Baracuda.

The chippy at Gracemount Drive is always good

The Supperbowl?  :sergioyay:

I haven't seen the Globetrotter at Bruntsfield mentioned yet. Quality fare although it's usually heaving.

Had a fish supper from The Fountain on Yeaman Place a couple of weeks ago and I am still thinking about it. Really good. Not had anything else from there so not sure what rest of 'menu' is like but whilst I was waiting for the chips to fry, I saw a pizza being made and it looked nice.

The Barbeque on Glasgow road is the best chippy this side of town.

This. Had a Pizza last night from there and they have always been excellent.

The Sultan chippy in East Craigs is nearer but I was physically sick after having a Puzza from there last year and I'll never go back.

Globetrotter is my favourite.

Ginos at carrick knowe is not great. I really don't get the bbq, it's been poor when I've tried it.

Went right downhill, used to be a cracking chippy aswell.

Best fish supper I've had recently has been the tail end. Also got one from the Gorgie fry after the Cowdenbeath game and fresh made and was pretty good.

Didn't even make the list, which is a surprise, The Tailend for me

All three I mentioned in post #3 of this thread make the final shortlist.

Clearly I know my way around a fish supper

A shortlist of 28?

If its anything like their Best Pub one, there was about 3 or 4 rounds, whittling it down through voting, until the winner was decided.

Or, in other words, clickbait.

To be fair, compared to the amount of chippies in Edinburgh and all the surrounding areas, 28 probably is a pretty short list.

Bene's in the Canongate for me. What a local chippy should be. Small but perfectly formed. Grew up across the road and there was nothing better than a Saturday night fish supper on the way home from Tynecastle.

Grew up across the road myself. My folks still live there.

The Old Tolbooth

Another vote for the Tail End from me, very good fish supper and it's rare you get chips as good as theirs.

I was in Scotbet next to the Barracuda today and thought that the chippy looked decent from the outside, but it wasn't open yet :(

Anyone mind what the name of the chippy in Gilmore Place (near where the Central Taxis office is now) was - it's gone now -  was it The International?

If it's anything like their pub award, the best chippies in Edinburgh won't get a look in.

I had one a few months ago off the back of another award they won. Good but not great - I'll be trying them again though as it was decent.

I was in the BBQ on Sunday after my weekend exploits and remembering the mentions on this thread.

Got a Hamburger Supper and it was totally rank. The burger was way overcooked and the batter was soggy as feck, which seems a bit of a contradiction but that's how it turned out. Shame as I was really looking forward to it after being burst for most of the weekend.
