A few thoughts

1. Hearts and season 2007-2008: Overall by recent standards a poor season.

Very poor in the league. Yet apart from Celtic in the league we have

we have beaten all the other teams in the top six in a league match.

Primarily I do blame the players. They are the only ones that play on

the pitch. I dont say outside factors can contribute to a poor performance

but, when I have ever had a bad game and I have had plenty I never

blamed anyone bar myself. We did ok in the league cup but, we did

not play well at Hampden as I firmly believe this current Rangers team

are there for the taking, Along with Celtic too and the fact I dont rate

either OF team as good makes this league campaign all the more galling

Despite Rangers getting to the Uefa Cup final the standard in the SPL

this season has been very poor, very poor indeed.

2. Hearts owner: I personally think Vladimir Romanov under-estimated the size

of the task in hand nowadays to try and wrestle power(on the football

pitch at least) away from Celtic and Rangers. I dont think he realised

how much in real cash terms it would take to compete never mind beat

them and I dont think Romanov has that kind of money to burn.

He does interfere when he shouldnt. He has to realise you employ people

at a football club to do certain jobs. These people either suceed or fail

Most of the time at Hearts they have failed but, they have been allowed

to fail on their own. Mr Romanov whoever is our next coach/manager

please let them have a free reign to suceed or fail on their own ability.

3. Hearts manager: Steven Frail is not a number one. He is to nice a guy

to be top dog. Will always be a good number two but will never make it

as a number one anywhere.

4. Scottish football as a whole: Sir David Murray got one thing right we are

a laughing stock but, not because the SPL refused a second time to

extend the SPL season but, we have been a laughing stock in the eyes of

many for more years than I care to remember. Guess what Sir David?

You have played a big hand in making us a laughing stock. There was

a really good article(again) from Stuart Cosgrove in last week's Daily

Record, either Thursday or Friday, which nailed alot on the head. I

wasnt surprised it hardly got a mention on this or other messageboards

as it was full of to much sense and home truths for SDM.

I have said in the past and I will repeat again. I am one of those that

believes Scottish football is corrupt. Now I know many see this as brown

envelopes of money passing back and forth but, that doesnt always have

to be the case. I hear the argument trotted out that the OF get the

decisions as they have most of the fans. At Ibrox and Celtic Park yes but

they no longer do at places like Tynecastle, Easter Road and Pittodrie but,

oddly enough they still get the decisions. Craig Levein called it spot on

the other day. You know he was not just talking about the game that

had just taken place. He was talking about his twenty five years in

Scottish football where he has experienced it as a player and manager.

Sadly nothing will change as the OF have all those who could do

something about it sewn up. Mainly the SFA/SPL and the Scottish media

The truth is the other 38 clubs in Scottish football have to have a united

front to defeat two but self interest always prevails. Will someone please

step forward with the BALLS to take them(OF/SFA and media) on.

5. Uefa Cup Final: Zenit St Petersburg to win please. Just as I was over

the moon when Oporto defeated Celtic in 2003. I dont want the OF to

win any trophy. From the Glasgow Cup to the European trophies I want

both of them to suffer defeat in them all.

6. Alex McLeish: Glad Birmingham got relegated as the man is not the manager

people like to think he is. He failed with Scotland. We are not participating

at Euro2008 and Birmingham City are playing in the championship next

season but the Scottish press wont harp on about it to much. They

like Alex. He won a few trophies as manager of Rangers.

Our very own custodian tried to take it on in his own style.

Hammered by the press/media and to some extent even his own fans.

Scottish football has to learn that the OF need us more then we need them ! We have being so parnoid over the years that the OF will jump ship that we have bent over backwards for the sucm ! First is first, the spl should remove the daft 11-1 rule ! why the **** did anyone ever agree to this ! what a disgrace !

Forgive me if I am in-correct here but I thought that ruled has been changed from 11-1 to 8-4?

Yep agreed their style is odd to say the least but they cannot understand the way the old firm are treated here.

They've not had to live with it for decades.

as far i was aware it is still 11-1 for major decisions, i.e to increase the league for example.

A shocking season. It all started to go wrong pre-season when our owner invited a Russian alchy has-been who had previously failed at our club to oversee training. Right from the word go we were poor, the loss to Hibs on the opening Monday night a taste of things to come. We went from one poor performance to another with the occasional bright spot (beating Rangers 4-2, beating Celtic 2-0 in the League Cup). Mr Romanov told us the days of Hearts losing 0-5 to the Old Firm were gone. Not so. A 0-5 at Parkhead, followed later in the season at the same venue by a 0-3 with the post and bar being struck a couple of times. And a heartless 0-4 capitulation at home to Rangers. Bottom six was where we deserved to be.

Our owner has been shown to be completely out of touch at Hearts. However he still insists on micro-managing just about every aspect of footballing operations. How many games did he turn up to again? Was it 2 or 3, I forget? Yet he sticks his nose in on matters such as picking the team and making subs during games. Incredible. We'll never get a decent manager with Romanov in charge. No one with any self respect would take the job.

There's plenty "pro big team" bias that goes on in other countries, but the Old Firm bias is as you say endemic in Scottish football and you'd like to think at some point something will be done about it. I just don't see it happening. Scottish football is a joke - the Gretna situation, Fir Park postponements, a team whose players saw Phil O'Donnell die on the pitch (Dundee Utd) not get a postponement of their next match while Celtic (not directly affected by the tragedy, did), atrocious refereeing (almost unnoticed in the furore over McCurry at the weekend was the failure of the officials to spot an Aberdeen goal in a UEFA cup decider) and of course Hearts under Romanov, a continual bad joke.

I don't think you'll be disappointed as I am pretty sure Zenit Leningrad will win on Wednesday. I won't be crying into my beer if Rangers do manage to sneak it in a penalty shoot-out though.

League tables don't lie. Teams that win Leagues usually deserve it. Teams that get relegated usually deserve to go down. I think Birmingham City treated Steve Bruce shoddily so in a way it's funny I suppose that Bruce's Wigan stayed up while the Brummies went down. Looks like one of Hull City / Bristol City will replace them. Hull in the Premiership? Blimey! Shows you what a decent manager can do.

Wow, a balanced, well thought out post on kickback, will wonders never cease? I pretty much agree with all of that.
