Its no Fifa League thats for sure! the basic rules for mafia games are that the players are split into two main groups, the townies and the mafia. the townies make up the vast majority of players with there being about 3 or 4 mafia usually. The townies do not know who the mafia are but the mafia know who their fellow bad guys are. The game is split into two phases; the day phase and the night phase. in the day, all the players vote for someone they wish to get rid off. The person with a majority vote or the most votes by a deadline is then dead and out of the game.(all publicly on the game thread) at night, the mafia choose to kill one of the townies. (in secret by PM) the object of the game if you are a townie is to vote off all the bad guys thus ridding the town of the mafia. the object of the game if you are a mafiosa is usually to reach a point where the town can't win - i.e. a majority of bad guys. there will be assorted other roles that make the game more interesting but that's the basics.
