On tonight - hard one to call this year...

I'm thinking between Andy Murray and Bradley Wiggins for top spot.

Shortlist here: http://www.bbc.co.uk...nality/20466947

Murray only 4th favorite!

Wiggins 1/2

Ennis 7/2

Farah 13/2

Murray 18/1

Simmonds 50/1

Weir 75/1

Hoy, McIlroy 125/1

Ainslie 200/1

Adams 250/1

Granger 300/1

Storey 500/1

Much as I'm a huge cycling fan and think Wiggins should get it I would love Dave Weir to get it. It was amazing watching him get the golds in successively longer events.

Whoever wins it will be a deserved winner.

What a year we have had. Proud to be British.

I'm sure the famous will get a mention as well :verysmug:

Should be Team of the Year, with Team GB a close 2nd.

Now don't go getting overexcited but the Duchess Of Cambridge will be attending tonight.

I hope the Duchess is given a comfortable seat and is well looked after, particularly given her condition

Would be nice if the camera panned over to her after we are highlighted as Scottish Cup winners and she gives us a regal 5-1

Even in her condition?

What a Duchess.

Really?

If so that just sums her up. Battling illness but still wanting to be there for our great sportsmen and women.

Rand Paul's Ray Bans

Get your house and life-savings on laying Mo Farah.

Ed Miliband's jinxed him by coming out and saying he thinks Mo will win it.

Wiggins is a shoe in for this one I'm afraid.

Any other year and a tennis Wimbledon finalist and U.S open winner would walk it. FFS Greg Rusedski won it in 97 for just reaching the U.S Open final!

Really hope this thread isn't going to turn into the usual I'm not British I'm Scottish troll fest.

Been looking forward to this for weeks. A celebration of being British.

Too right, I'm proud to be British, it's more a sport thing. as people tend to vote more for athletics winners when it's World Championship or Olympic years.

A 3 hour feast showcasing Britains finest sporting year, in which Hearts gave Hibs a monumental pasting in the biggest derby ever?

I'm all over it like a tramp on chips :)

And an Olympic gold medal for good measure.

Im utter astounded he managed to post with out :sob::seething: or his favorite, ::troll:::'>

No sure what time it starts, need to check.

Wiggo to win for me lkes, regardless of who the eventual winner is, it will just be great to watch a recap of all the brilliant sporting memories and achievments of 2012, this year, of all years, anyone on the shortlist is worthy of it, to even make it on the shortlist is an achievment imo

Cheers mate.

Just opened a bottle of wine and settled down for the night. What a year of sport we have had. This is going to be great.

Enjoy all.

Wiggins has to win it. No other athlete comes close to what he achieved.

Plus he has got a personality.

Who won it last year? Wasn't there a bit of a shock result either last time or two years ago?

It was about 3 years ago that Ryan Giggs was given it for doing hee-haw. He is a great player, but this was essentially a lifetime achievement award.

There was also a hoo-ha when Zara Phillips won it a decade or so ago, and that no women were nominated last year.

I think it was Cavendish so hopefully not a cyclist 2 years running.

He totally deserved to win it

As does Wiggo

Think Farah is in with a good chance, the charity work he's doing now will give him a wee boost i think.

Hard one to call since it's been a good year for British sports people.

To be fair it's that much of a competitive field any of them could win and it would be deserved.

For me Murray showed great determination to come back from losing the Wimbledon final to win the US Open and a gold and silver in the Olympics. Something about his 'never give up' attititude that has stood out for me this year.
