What football moment did you ever try to copy?

Someone in the "which schools team" thread was talking about trying to copy the Cruyff turn just after he'd first done it on TV.

What else did you try to copy?

I remember seeing people try:

David Platt volley in 90 World Cup

Shirt tucked in at the front, out at the back a la JC

Panenko-style penalties

Higuita scorpion kicks

Taping outside socks at top and bottom

Kenny Dalglish goal celebrations

The Beattie!!!!!

Done it many times the highlight though was in the casino after winning a big hand :profit:

On a serious note though....

Roger Milla's corner flag celebration

Klinsman's dive

Hate to say it but I remember Cadette(I think) scoring a volley from a free kick that was flicked up by another Celtic player. Absolute belter. Was always trying to do that in the park when younger.

It was always Bobby Murdoch's cracker against West Germany at Hampden in 1969 when he scored a scorcher from about 25 yards that thundering off the underside of the old Hampden square crossbar at the Old Celtic End. It was never counted unless it came off the underside in these days at the Top Field!

Every time the ball the ball was there to be volleyed in the playground the person about to strike it would shout Yeboah.

Also used to hold my cuffs like Dennis Law.

The Celtic free kick, as mentioned, although I thought it was di canio?

The boy that takes free kick, about 19 yards out, does nothing other than flick it vertically up to Paulo who smashes the volley straight in. Tremendous.

Never managed it either but I blame the quality of the flick up

I once tracked back 40 yards to score an own goal in the style of van bastens famous european championship volley.

I was flat out sprinting back as someone on the opposition team floated a ball over the top to the lad i was tracking. i leapt athletically and caught the volley perfectly, as well as i've ever connected with a ball and smashed it into the roof of my own net.

It was of course an attempted clearance. but still to this day stands as the most impressive goal i've ever scored

Roberto Carlos freekicks. Usually resulted in a long walk away for the ball

Also tried repeatedly to master the little trick david dunn famously f**ked up. the one soccer am always show as "some teckers are bad"

Never achieved anything any more impressive than dunns attempt.

The People's Chimp

I would always sport the JC tucked/untucked look.

Or play "maradona rules" which meant hacking, handballs and the rest.

Great times.

Slightly older school here - The Willie Carr / Ernie Hunt "Donkey Kick" Free kick for Coventry - it was later outlawed by FIFA as a "double touch"

Love that t-shirt!

Personally, I've only ever had just about enough skill to look like Petric getting back to his own half after a Hearts corner but last week watched my son pull off a pretty decent version of Gazza's Euro '96 goal v Scotland, albeit with the kid in the Hendrie role quite a bit shorter and more clueless and the goalie was in two minds whether to stand his ground or come from the ball*. No dentist's chair, though. Not really appropriate at the primary school level!

* - terrible attempt to shoehorn in a "two minds" gag. My apologies.

Beckham's free kicks in the top corner, used to get some decent curve on my shots back in the day from doing all that practicing.

Used to do Quitongo cartwheel's as well after scoring goals.

The "Poborsky lob". Don't think I even tried a normal shot for about a year after that. I wasn't very good at it...

Remember myself emulating the great save from Gordon Banks from a Pele header during a game of crossy in the Meadows. Made a great job of the save but ended up getting 8 stitches in my leg as I landed on a piece of broken glass, put an end to playing football for the rest of my summer holidays.

A bit obscure this one, but it was an amazing scissor kick type goal from a Mexican player in the 1986 World Cup. I remember me and my brother throwing ourselves in the ait trying to copy it and shouting NEGRETE!!!!!!!

Sorry to say, standing on the ball to see over the defenders a la Andrei Kanchelskis. Ball bursts and I get an earful in Spanish. Dull.

Just after the Hearts v Bayern home game i refused to take a shot at goal from a free kick unless it was touched off to the side a la Iain Ferguson..

I would only have been about 8 years old..

Anyone remember Wayne Rooney getting sent off.. I think it was for clapping the referee.. I got sent of in the Sunday amateurs for the same thing they day after..

Andy Gray diving header against Fortuna Sittard (?) in the Uefa cup. He must have been about a foot of the ground and there were 2 or 3 defenders and the goalie trying to kick it away and Gray dives in and scores.

Never done it on a football pitch but done it plenty of times coming home from the pub.

Just watched that again and I noticed that I'm vaguely right but it is like my mother in law telling a joke, the foundations are right but the rest is gibberish.
