Bert Le Clos
Musselburgh Grammar School isn't that bad these days. When I went into first year in 2003 it was the second worst school in Scotland By the time I left, it was much better. I got a good education out of that place and went on to Uni. Let's get one thing straight, Musselburgh Grammar has never been anywhere near the 2nd worst school in Scotland. I was in 1st year when the HMI inspectors walked in completely unannounced, something they had never done before or ever had again. They happened to walk in as a fight kicked off in the lobby - it was reported as a mass brawl where someone had their arm deliberately broken. In actual fact it was about 5 boys, and the lad who broke his arm did so when he tripped up running to watch the fight! It was given the worst report, due to the fact that as the inspectors didn't give the school the 6months notice they gave every other school in the past, and every school since, the Grammar didn't have the chance to temporarilly exclude the worst pupils, or move them all out of classes to the support base. Something I know is common practice in most schools when the inspectors arrive. Are you trying to tell me in the whole of Scotland, there was only one worse school than Musselburgh Grammar? Ask anyone involved in teaching and the answer will be no.

Its far from perfect and has its usual dodgy places and dodgier people. But show me a place that doesnt. Which I'm sure the hometowns of people calling it a shithole can relate to as well. The folk born and bred there are the only ones that see a good saturday night out as going down the high street for a bevvy and a pagger, the incomers in the wimpey/barrett schemes etc rarely drink or socialise in the town and anyone with a bit of sense moves the **** away as soon as they can! If they took their heads out their arseholes long enough. If you dont like a place, then dont go. Born and bred in Musselburgh myself and I have to admit its went right downhill in the last 5-10 years. There was a time when I wouldn't have really have imagined me agreeing with a lot of the posts about it but it's a proper shit hole these days. I've stayed all over from Ravensheugh, Grove St, West Holmes, Stoneybank and down by the harbour and although the majority of people are good the pubs are f***** awful and there seems to be loads of junkies strutting about these days too. The high st is an embarassment with nothing but bookies, take always or pound shops. Barring me going to the bank theres no reason to go along the high st now but I blame Tesco for pretty much putting everybody out of business, nobody can compete with them. As for the Burgh pub im not that surprised it was like something out of Michael Jacksons thriller in there, absolute half wits in the place. It's very sad cos Musselburgh used to have good pubs. They could be a bit rough at times but were mostly full of decent folk. Its went to the dogs the last few years. I'm laughing at BB's post about the guy going into whispers and wanting to fight fenians i know him he's a madman like. I know the guy who ate his ear also, didn't know he was that bonkers but heard it was a bit of revenge for a doing he got from the same lads a wee while before but just going out in Tranent after an OF game is taking your life in your hands.
