Actually it was the pub on Lady Lawson St I meant. Doh!

What was it called? Small rectangular building with two or three steps up to it at one end, and another door at the side. Just down from the Tap o Lauriston.

Anyone remember it?

Bridies maybe?

Know the one you mean it was K Jacksons and was The Port Bar - never remembered it go-go's.

The one in Rose Street was Paddy's bar in those day's it was called the Tankard and is now The Black Rose, many a lunch-time spent there in the early 1980's

I used to go to the Fantasy Palace all the time when I was a bit younger.

My mate went into the back with a girl and was away for ages. About half an hour later he emerged closely chaperoned by a large bouncer and an angry looking dancer:

"Mate, I need ?100"

Dirty b*gger has since moved to Thailand.

Thanks guys. Im sure it was K Jacksons when I went.

As for go gos I used to work in St Andrew Sq and a pub called Bits n Pieces used to sell tickets for a 2 hour strip show. It was around a pound but you got a plate of stovies thrown in. One stripper was called Big Tanya and she did a rather rude version of the Sooty and Sweep show which would never have made the BBC!

Also no one wanted to sit near the front as one poor victim was picked to participate in the show. Never me of course!

I have been there a few times. Once, I got offered a golden ticket at the bar, so I bought two. Then a dancer took them off me and escorted me to the opposite side of the bar where I had been before for dances. I was listed an feeling crap though, so either never found out, or did not remember what difference the golden tickets made, if any.

Think that must be the same dancer that used to do her stuff in The Steamboat on Constitution Street.

Pretty sure Auld Worthies had them back then too. Actually preferred them back then when they just took their tops off. It left a wee bit to the imagination. The music was a hell of a lot better too.

When the novelty of some bird flashin her jugs wore off it actually became a bit boring. I felt sorry for some of the girls who danced away with no one watchin til the paps appeared.

Go gos were the rule rather than the exception in the city centre pubs.

Lots of great pubs mentioned on this thread!

the clique used to go to the Burke evey Thursday and watch TOTP before the dancers came on .. if you remember the juke boxes in the late 70s

were pretty basic, the girl would put on the first two and ask us to put the third, always a slow one,on once the second had started

well ... instead of a slow one we would put some punk on My Way,White Riot,Frigging in the Rigging etc

they soon stopped seeing the funny side and barred us

I remember she was prosecuted for doing the Sooty act in a club in Ayrshire. Charged with "lewd and libidinous behaviour". It was actually feckin hilarious so dont know who would have been offended. Sooty always looked to be enjoyin himself!

We used to go to the Canny Man at lunchtime to see the Go Go dancers and also took a couple of Rangers fans from our Glasgow office to Dizzy Lizzies one night before a cup tie at Easter Rd.They had not seen anything like it and and never went to the game.

I played for the Penthouse in 1975 but cant remember seeing any go go dancers there.

Tony's EuroDisco up at Bristo Square. It's now Negociants. There was an old Tartan Special advert filmed there. The dancer came on and the main character stayed at th ebar to get served - watching in the overhead mirror. Barmaid gives a wink and says "oh you crafty devil!"

Dunno if anyone remembers Tony's or the add?

'It's a weather for the ducks' he used to say 'so stay inside with the lovely Miss Julie'

And the xmas specials were something else............ so I was told also :whistling:
