Could Hearts not get planning permission to build another level onto the main stand with an extra few thousand seats and a length of sponsors lounges , saving the club all the extra costs of re-location ?

Can it be done ? Any Edinburgh Tram construction management , construction workers need not reply .

Old stand would need to be flattened and a new one built..... Kinda like the proposal we put into the council about a hundred years ago........

The Main stand cant hold the weight of football let alone another level!

Of course it is possible to build a stand with its own structural support above the current structure.

It would be even less viable than the ?51m 'plan' or the current 'end the suffocation - get the Council to build us a stadium' plan though. :D

What I don't understand is if the main stand was flattened and a new stand built directly over it. Why would the planning permission say it would effect surrounding builings as the same ground space would surely be taken up, no?

Who cares?

In 5 years time there won't be enough people left going to games to fill the Wheatfield, never mind a new Main Stand.

Purpose built stadium, increased capacity, hotels, casinos, first class business facilities, restaurants.

Jesus wept.

A new stand could be built on and around the blueprint of the current facility with minimal disruption to the activity within the old stand (for a time), but the foundations of the old stand would not be able to hold the weight of a modern structure.

For example, the rear section of a new stand could be built behind the current building whilst it was still used until the new structure reached the old stand. Then the old section would have to be dismantled (say closed season for example), new foundations and utilities trenches dug and then the rest of the stand put into place all whilst Hearts continue to occupy the ground. It has happened in football already, although maybe not in such an extreme manner as above, Old Trafford being the prime example. If I remember correctly that?s what they did with Soldiers Field in Chicago as well, although the Bears did spend a year at a college ground.

But as Coco mentioned, the sheer cost and logistics of it all would make it unviable and easier to move out for the duration of construction.

Not that it's going to matter a jot since there will be no new main stand or stadium whilst Vlad is around.

HMFC can't pay the players wages - where is it going to get the funds to build a new stand and why do we need thousands of extra seats when we can't fill the ones already there anyway?

There will be no new stand as long as Vlad is still in charge - just get used to the idea.

Not sure I get what you are on about.

These 'temporary' stands similar to those used for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo could be built over & above the existing Main Stand at Tynecastle and be supported by a steel-frame structure ... at Edinburgh Castle they are built over & above the castle & esplanade external stone walls.

No reason why they couldn't have a roof attachment - i also think it would cost less to erect and build on a flat surface in McLeod street compared to the sloped surfaces of johnston terrace and the esplanade. :)

A bit of intelligent thinking, are you surprised people are really too ready to mock?

It seems to me JKB cant wait to tell everyone how things cant be done........

Maybe we could do with more can do people.......

It is possible as i believe Aston Villa did this with their main stand a few years back. However, it will never happen.

I'm hoping that either the poster is a child or you are drunk. Such a ridiculous question. How on earth would our stand take it? which leads us on to the whole 'NEW STAND' conversation.
