jambos are go!

Really rate Wallace,Naysmith and Fysass. But Tosh Mckinlay was the major playmaker from

the left back position and everything went through him. He gets my vote.

Davie Holt, the first left back I ever saw, and Peter Oliver for his attacking play, but Takis was something else. As Graham Spiers said: "he has a habit of going into a challenge and coming out with the ball"

Fysass... Played in probably the best Hearts team there has been in recent years and was good on the ball high up the park. I dont remember him standing out for his superior defensive displays and was never a favourite of mine. Very nice guy though.

Dave Clunie was the first I saw but we've had some stand outs over the years.

Takis was a class act - remember him after his contract had ended I think - down at Kilmarnock in the stand responding to the fans - i think he had real affection for the club.

Before him it would have had to have been Neil Pointon though. Gritty, determined but could play a bit as well.

Agree about Takis but Gary Naysmith and Lee Wallace are my favs. Both came through the youths, went on to play for Scotland and we got a decent wedge for them. I also liked Tosh too. Danny Grainger if he keeps it up could go on from cult to star.

Pointon for me. Not the best but still remains one of my favourite hearts players.

Yup. Not the best but he tried & he loved being a Jambo.

Wee Tosh was a great player for Hearts and was part of our best ever back 4 IMO - McLaren, McKinlay, Levein, McPherson - certainly in my time watching Hearts. Peed me off no end that Tosh played superbly for Hearts for years with no international recognition, then moved to Celtic and got called up almost immediately aged 31 and stayed a Scotland regular.

To see a player of Fysass calibre play for Hearts was unbelievable, he had the cigar out at Left back in the SPL, absolute rolls royce of a fullback.

My personal favourite is Gary Naysmith and would say he is one of my favourite players ever, only 2 years older than me when we won the cup but had a bit of swagger about him without being a ****, was prob a bit in awe of him tbh, loved the way he got stuck to a tackle and loved how he raided forward from full back, much like Wallace who deserves a mention too. Will never forget his lung bursting run past Porrini in the 98 cup final, his shin roller at McDiarmid Park and one of my favourite goals, in 98, a 30 yard raker v Aberdeen at Tynie, not long after they equalised (seem to remember us trying to get a player back on the pitch but the ref said no just before Aberdeen scored)and who could forget his debut in a 1-0 v Celtic in the Lge Cup.

Also liked Pointon, good honest full back who I think should take some credit for Naysmiths development.

Tosh was the first full back I remember watching for Hearts, thought his crossing abiity was phenomenal, one of the many examples of a player doing really well and getting nowhere near the scotland setup but move to celtic and hey presto!

Thought Mahe was good and Grainger has surpassed everyones expectations and been generally good.

Neilson's Shank

Takis by a mile, Pointon, Naysmith and Mahe are all up there also.

We have been well served in this position over the years.

Hannibal Lecter

Takis Fyssas - different class to what we are used to, what a delight it was to see him pull on the famous maroon. Just think what the guy would have been like at the peak of his career playing for us.

Wallace, Naysmith, Fyssas, McKinlay - we've had a few good ones over the years.

Whittaker was only good with a headband and playing at centre back. Pointon was decent.

I think Tosh was my favourite, but Fyssas was the best.

Davie Holt, Arthur Mannn but my favourite Gary Naysmith

Dave Clunie was normally right back. I think he had the odd game in midfield. At his best looked quite stylish but played in a mostly poor Hearts team.

We have been well served down the years at the LB position, why has the RB position been such a problem

Might be worth starting a RB thread, might just reach a second page

We've had a few good right backs over the years - as well as quite a few stinkers.
