jamb0_1874
Can somebody please explain to me Neil Doncasters latest comments, where he defends the standard of football in the SPL by making reference to the "very good representation of (Scottish) managers south of the border". How is that of any relevance at all to the SPL? Surely if that's the only thing the SPL has going for it, we should be thinking about shutting the doors now. http://news.bbc.co.u...ll/14402785.stm
alwaysthereinspirit
He's obviously a smart guy but not up for public speaking. How many game in the SPL do those managers have under their belts, Stupid remark to make.
givememychoice
it is of no relevance. I also dont see how rangers losing out on money is bad for the SPL....he seems to be claiming the money they would get gets split between all the spl teams. when it doesnt. neil doncaster is a ********

I also dont see how rangers losing out on money is bad for the SPL....he seems to be claiming the money they would get gets split between all the spl teams. when it doesnt. neil doncaster is a ******** From the BBC A large part of the distributed revenue from the Champions League is linked to the "market pool", the distribution of which is determined by the value of the television market in each country which for British clubs is high. "With a team in the group stages of the Champions League, that means much larger solidarity payments from Uefa for all our clubs," chief executive Doncaster told BBC Radio 5 live. As far as I can see, according to that page on the link, the money is distributed amongst participating clubs. There was only one Scottish club participating in CL qualifiers this season. Boof
And also... From the BBC ...Doncaster defended the quality of the SPL. "We've got players like David Goodwillie who has just gone to Blackburn for a multi-million pound sum" he said. Well...if he's just gone to Blackburn Rovers...then we haven't got him in the SPL. Cut The Crap
This is from an interview on 5 Live this morning. As an aside, he was also asked about the situation at Hearts this week and replied that having ploughed more money into Scottish football than anyone else over the past five years, Vlad was entitled to make whatever changes he sees fit. Just in the interests of balance.

Guest Borat
He says that Rangers going out is going to impacts all SPL clubs. Rangers are missing out on a guaranteed ?8 million plus TV money and everyone else is missing out on "solidarity payments from UEFA" What is that and how much would we expect to get? Surely Rangers going out is a good thing from a Hearts point of view. If Rangers qualify for the group stages the money they get only widens the gap between us and them. As if Hearts, a club who get a few games in Europe every couple of years, really need to worry about a falling coefficient, entry rounds into European competitions and about the Old Firm losing millions. No money no big signings no widening gap
Victorian
talking up one country's league by tenuously associating it to a far superior one. good one.
milky_26
here is the uefa website about the solidarity payments My link if yuo have played in the group stages since 2001 you dont get any, but your league can decide if all member teams that are eligible get the same amount, basically last season SPL sides had CHF1.433M (~?1M) split between them so each club would have gotten an extra ?100k. compare this to a nation similar to us (say sweden) without any CL qualifiers we get ~CHF0.4M (~?250K) giving each eligible club an extra ??5K this season so each club only loses ~?75k while der huns lose ?8M+ edit: the pound values should actually be euros (appart from the 8M)
Feeno
so basically we trade a hunner grand so rangers lose 8m, deal.
