Romanov promises players to stay (BBC)

Owner Vladimir Romanov used a meeting with Hearts' players to underline his commitment to the Edinburgh club.

Romanov, whose recent absence from Tynecastle has led to speculation about his intentions with the club ?37m in debt, had a 10-minute chat.

And he promised the squad that he would attend every home game between now and the end of the season.

But the man who has previously been accused of meddling in team affairs did not discuss appointing a new manager.

Stephen Frail was in January appointed caretaker manager of the Scottish Premier League club until the end of the season.

Hearts' choice of manager for next season will figure high in discussions with the club's board that have prompted Romanov's return to Scotland.

The Lithuanian will also hold business meetings relating to the redevelopment of Hearts' stadium.

Romanov's visit coincided with the release of the club's financial results, which revealed a rise in debts to a record ?37m.

But the annual report stated that building the planned new main stand would help boost the club's finances in future years.
