We now dont play either of the ugly sisters till after the split and have a real chance to put another good run together, but how many points can we realistically expect from the maximum 27?

12/02/11 Hamilton A. A 3

19/02/11 Dundee Utd H 3

26/02/11 Aberdeen A 1

05/03/11 Kilmarnock H 3

16/03/11 Dundee Utd A 1

19/03/11 St Mirren H 3

02/04/11 Hibernian A 3

09/04/11 Motherwell H 3

16/04/11 Inverness CT A 3

Is 23 points too much to expect, I certainly think we are more than capable!!

27! Any team has the temerity to try and take even one point of us and Black's gonna go mental. And they don't want that, do they. :P

It doesn't really matter as long as we have a 16 point lead over whoever is in 4th place and are still capable of catch both or one of the OF. That way, we are gauranteed 3rd spot as a minimam (= successful season) and can go out and attack attack attack the other five teams. That would be an interesting finale'

Anything more than 20 would be a very decent haul imo.

That was my thoughts prior to opening the thread.

We shouldnt drop too many though.

If we can get to that points total....

3rd place will be sewn by the time we play Hibs in April.

Looks a good run of games but to be honest I really don't see us going on anything like the run we were on recently. I would settle for 6 wins & 3 defeats, 18 points - that might be enough to guarantee 3rd place before the split. Don't see us being unbeaten through these 9 games - the kind of a run we have just been on doesn't happen twice a season for non OF teams.

If we can pick up around 20+ points from this sequence of games, which is not beyond us by any means, we would go into the post spilt games with around 68-71 points roughly. A good set of results in those post split fixtures and we could end up very close to top spot come the end, despite someone saying last night we'll finish 20 points behind Celtic and around 15 points behind Rangers (which would mean both those clubs would have to amass points totals they have been nowhere near to for a number of years).

Looking at it, every game other than Aberdeen, Dundee United and ICT should be a win, our record at ICT is good is it not? Will need to see more of Aberdeen under Brown but still 27 points is not unachievable would be happy with anything over 20 tbh.

That was me, PJ1. Why do I think we'll end up that sort of figure behind both clubs? Because 69 is where I think we'll end up, only 5 points shy of our 2005/6 total. But Celtic and Rangers are both still on course to finish above 90: indeed, if you include the back end of last season, Celtic have now taken 82 points from the last 96 available. And that's frightening consistency.

To put it into perspective, if Hearts won every single game against everyone else all season long, but lost the eight games v the OF, even that'd only give us 90 points. And there's every sign that this season will again result in a low haul against the big two. That's how hard it is. We might even go really, really well over the rest of the campaign, and still finish well adrift.

anyone who would be happy iwht a point at Easter road must either have very low expectations or must be forseeing a huge turnaround in their fortunes.

If we manage 20 points we'll have 68 in total before the split and 3rd will be without doubt tied up.

I think we finished on 74(?) points the 05/06 season. Be interesting how we do in comparison to that?

Exactly. It will be amazing if we better that. Unfortunately I can't see that splitting the Old Firm though this time round.

If we could get 19 or above from those I wouldn't be too disappointed TBH

I don't think we will go undefeated in them all,I think we will either lose to Aberdeen or Utd away and I think we will take 20pts.

5 wins and 2 draws from these 9 games would give us 17pts and put us onto 65pts before the split which has been comfortably good enough to get 3rd place in every SPL season in recent memory.

Would love to cost either of the uglies the championship by beating them after the split. Not fussed which one.

(only if we are not in the hunt mind you)

Because 69 is where I think we'll end up

That's an interesting position... any particular reason for it?

It's just quite conservative, bearing in mind the season so far. 21 more points... Do we get any points post split? Or are we going to do much worse than expected over these next 9 games?

I think I know why SL choose 69pts!

Jim Jefferies overall average points per game as a manager is approx 1.5 x 14 games remaining = 21pts + 48pts currently = 69pts

On paper Celtic have 4 hard games coming up.. Home game against Rangers and away to Motherwell, Killie and Dundee United.. if they pick up full points from them they will walk the league..

Hearts need to pick up over 20 points from the next 9 games otherwise our season could well fizzle out..

Well spotted! I really hope Shaun wouldn't be using that kind of flawed logic though - that's like working out Usain Bolt's average time for the 100 metres by using his entire life, including his childhood - with around a year where he couldn't actually walk, let alone run.

27 points, the OF would accept no-less, neither should we

Although realistically if we get more than 20 coupled with another win against the hobbits I'd be delighted.
