I am currently half way through reading Graham Spiers 'Enigma' an expose and analysis of PLG's time at Ibrox including his career & family background...has anyone else read it?

All in all he was a fish out of water at Ibrox and definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

On setanta-1 just now PSG are losing 2-1 at Lyon at half time in a game they must win to avoid really getting dragged into relegation mire......still hard days for PLG.

Would quite like to read that. Have read a few pieces from Spiers on the subject of PLG.

Felt a shame for him in a kind of way as the club backed the big players in the changing room rather than himself. He did sign some honking players though NMH - and the team looked totally void of spirit (sound familiar)

Always keep an eye out for PSG results - they are in soapy, big time.

51 minutes penalty to PSG 2-2.......

David Murray told him there was virtually no money to spend and he was forced to shop in the (relative) bargain basement on the understanding he had time to turn the club around...........6 months as it turned out.

He also tried to kill the drinking/eating ****e culture at the football club. Charlie Adam never looked fitter than when he was playing under Le Guen. Some of the players in the dressing room never taken kindly to this. Remember reading and interview with Clement (one of the few players bought by Le Guen that I rated) where he said he could not believe the diet the Rangers players lived their life by.

Never spent that much in comparison with some Rangers managers - but spending almost 2 million on the dude with the big chin was a **** take. The keeper was also pretty poor - Soko (something like that) was also not suited one bit to Scottish football.

Bizarre one as PLG was one of the most sought after managers in Europe when he went to Ibrox.

3-2 now for Lyon 65 mins......

Spiers basically says you had a new manager in a new country with a totally different football culture.....relatively little money by Rangers standards - yet facing the same demands that every Rangers manager faces, demand for instant success especially when Celtic winning at home & in europe and Rangers being targeted by Uefa for sectarian bigotry & Rangers having a crisis of identity in the 21st Century.....also the media wrote & expected that like Advocaat he would come in, walk on water, gers would cruise to the title despite the massive differences in scale of resources awarded to each manager......

now 4-2 Juninho 69 mins...........PLG future in jeopardy if this continues.

4-2 ?? OUCH !!

Sounds like PLG was a silly appointment from Murray. He would have been better going for someone like Levein or McGhee..;)

Mr Romanov Saviour of HMFC

Bet the biggest regret of Le Guens life was going to Rangers.

He could have had his pick of clubs if he had just been patient and probably would have been a success at a European club with a culture that he was used to.

Unfortunately, Bazza the ned pulls the shots for the Huns!

Keep meaning to get a hold of that book at some point, FWIW though I think PLG may just not be that great a manager.

Dunno how true it was, but apparantly the consensus was that PLG was being lined up as a long term replacement for Wenger. Obviously he would have had his pick of clubs after leaving Lyon so suprised everyone when he went to the huns. Similr success with them would apparantly see him get the Arsenal gig eventually (now complete with experience of British football).

It now appears his derreier is oot le windae.

Toxteth O'Grady

Remember when PLG went to the Huns and he was meant to be the next Messiah?

It didn't quite work out.

This was the argument that the "we don't need a manger crew" always put on here.

I just hope we can get the right manager.

Buffalo Bill

Does anyone remember Walter Smith's press conference in Jan 07, after he was appointed manager again?

I've never seen such a miserable b****** in all my life.
