This what we should be aiming for every year.

It brings tears to your eyes. The team we had and still could have had Mr R not intervered with the club the way he did. It shows you how much he has ripped the heart out of the team. Oh so sad! I will ever wonder if we shall see it again? we can only hope.

Exactly what I said during the Falkirk match; it's a long way off playing Falkirk for a top six spot in comparison to us beating Aberdeen for a Champions League place.

I can't agree that "aiming" for this every year is in anyway realistic. That season and that set of results was way beyond our wildest dreams.

Since that night Rangers have spent over ?16 million adding to their squad, whilst Celtic have spent over ?19 million. This does not include bosmans or salary costs for any players.

Despite all the proclamations made by Romanov over the 2005/06 season it was clear that an investment far in advance of anything forthcoming from Romanov would be required to make the events of that season a sustained reality.

The (wild) ambition displayed by Romanov in 2005/06 promising that we were no longer a selling club, that we would consistently challenge the old firm in Scotland and (most abusrdly) the aim for Champions League success must surely be put down to the excited bravado of a new owner watching his team beat all comers in the opening weeks of the 2005/06 SPL season.

Our realistic aim for each season, based on transfer spending of ?1.2 - ?1.5 million in the same period that the Old Firm are spending ?16 million to ?19 million, can only be third place and extended runs in the domestic cups and consistent progress to the group stages of the UEFA Cup. If we compare our spending to the remainder of the SPL then we are performing well below the standard expected for our level of investment.

However, as soon as we move our benchmark to something more realistic and forget the "promises" made back in 2005/06 then we can maybe start to look forward again rather than back. We are failing atrociously against our expected standard at the moment without adding further levels of false expectation to the situation.
