Tokyo Drifter
One or two big goals for us but was never really convinced and was surprised how well he did at the Baggies. I'd take him back, but with reservations: I think the Kyle/Elliot partnership is the one JJ needs to nurture and chucking in another big CF would unbalance it. And would Bednar be content with a place on the bench?

rossthejambo
Bednar would waltz into the team now. No disrespect to any of the other strikers at the club just now but Bednar is probably better than them, with the exception of Kyle as Bednar could never play that role. It would never happen in a million, billion, gazillion years so not much point thinking about it.

Coco
He had the best movement of any striker we've had since Stephane Adam. Was utterly amazed that day down at Kilmarnock in the sunshine when Bednar and Rudi lined up for us for the first time. He would be a first pick for us. But looks impossible that we will sign players of that calibre again (with the exception of Rudi!).
ToadKiller Dog
He often took Celtic apart ,a top drawer player when fit and bothered ,he would also still demand a high wage . JJ is building a team that plays/fights for one and other not sure if Bednar's career history shows he fits into that .

I agree with your last line, was lazy too often and as you also say he wouldn't be cheap. Regarding the Celtic part, ok he scored 2 goals in one game (1 of which was on a plate from Lennon), apart from that he did very little against them. Maybe another goal in the 3-0 pumping we gave them after 2006 split but it hardly often.

jambonian
Ideas good but probably unaffordable. I doubt he'd want to come back again anyway when he could make a mint down there, the only thing that might persuade him is having his old czech-mate at Tynie again. Victorian
You could also have posted this on a Rudi Skacel thread! to a lesser extent perhaps. skacel really has given us another dimension. his costs are probably vastly lower than those of bednar. it also seems to me that far more clubs would be in for bednar therefore his earning potential is higher. i'm still a little stunned that rudi was available to us to be fair. Jeremy Goss
Would take Bednar back in a flash. Excellent player, powerhouse of a striker. However maybe a step too far financially - we'd need to offload about 5 players (Kucharski, Balogh, Mole, Obua, Ruben (?)) would just about cover it. gorgie_rebel
I liked Bednar when he was here. Good player but think he suffered a bit from believing his own hype at West Brom. Bainy
Don't see the problem with bringing him in with regards to Kyle and Elliot up front.... 4-3-3 Elliot - Kyle - Bednar That would be some attack, not that its ever going to happen though! ritchies75
Thought he was very good against Scotland, in my view won the game for the Czechs. My memory of him was that he was excellent in the big games (Hibs, Rangers, Celtic) but went AWOL in other games. Maybe that's unfair. Ffrom what i have seen of him lately i think he would be a good loan signing in Jan if we could afford him.

future is maroon
Ability wise he is better than what we have although in terms of his attitude then I wouldn't say he is better than what we have - by that I mean I couldn't see him working as hard as the likes of Kyle and Elliot although then again I could see Bednar scoring goals either of those probably couldn't. Obviosuly we want good players but at the same time we don't want to risk going down the Nade and Kingston route of players who's hearts aint in it. I'd take him although i can't see it happening purely down to money.
Diadora Van Basten
Fantastic player definitely would love to see him back. I would be surprised if West Brom let him go as he still usually comes on as a sub for them and their starting strikers are not looking as good as when the season started. Diadora Van Basten
Got to feel sorry for Bednar, he got West Brom promoted after he left Hearts then didn't get a game in the Prem as West Brom preferred Fortune and some Arsenal reserve. Fortune and Arsenal reserve leave when West Brom are relegated and after Xmas Bednar gets a run of games and again wins West Brom promotion to the Prem. Gets to Prem then West Brom play Fortune and sign Nigerian striker so doesn't get a game. What's the bets he goes to another championship side and gets them promoted only to be replaced when they get to the Prem. Also West Brom get relegated and Fortune and Nigerian striker leave. He's not unique in this respect. David Nugent comes to mind. Some players are too good for one league whilst not good enough for another. Shortsighted IMO. They will need a promotion specialist at some point in the next two or three years. For me, when Bednar was here his ambition seemed to diminish sharply when Burley left. Don't think he was the only one. He seemed to find that again at WBA. For what it is worth, I think he would do very well up here if he signed on to JJ's vision and stayed injury free (he was brilliant for us until Marven Andrews jumped on his knee after he scored against Rangers.) Doubt it will happen. The championship is a big draw even if we don't want to admit it. If the all time top SPL goalscorer leaves Rangers for an average championship team it says a lot - even if the boy concerned is an idiot. Seems even a lot of Scottish players find it more attractive prospect. Hopefully we can change that by making a more competitive league.

Buffalo Bill
I liked the slim-line Bednar of '8-in-a-row'. He seemed to be two stone heavier after he came back and one or two good performances aside (Celtic 06/07), he was never the same player and had more rubbish games than good ones. I think most players would be happier playing mid-table championship then the SPL anyway.
