Champions League Draw

What? Only group A open?

Oh for **** sake.

Oh well, we were better than Benetiz's Liverpool last year, we'll just have to do it to his Inter side.

As for Werder, they were very lucky to sneak past Sampdoria - This year's Italian version of Tottenham thumbsup.gif

Tough for Spurs, but I think they'll get through that. Inter could even be slightly vulnerable.

How many times so far has the commentary labelled it the "Group of Death"??

For anyone interested in the coefficients and stuff like that, the teams we need to keep an eye on and hope they get a difficult draw and/or lose the majority of their games are;

CFR Cluj (Romania - pot 4)

Basel (Switzerland - pot 3)

Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel - pot 3)

Hopefully Cluj are drawn in a different group to Basel and Hapoel.

Basel and Clunge in the same group. down.gif

I think Rangers will finish bottom of that. Bursaspor have reason to be phenomenally proud. Turkish football has been totally dominated by four clubs - Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Trabzonspor - ever since its inception. For little Bursaspor to actually win the title ahead of all of them was maybe the most remarkable story of the European season.

Feel sorry for Auxerre though. I've no idea how such a tiny club keeps being so successful, and they deserve better than the hardest draw of all.

FC Twente as well, jesus.

Although I think I'm right in saying they've sold a couple of players. Not started this season as strongly, drawing two and winning one to start the league season.

Still confident, but a bit more quietly confident than I would have liked.

Lets cut to the chase Shaun.

Who is going to win it ??

It will save me watching then.

Cheers in advance....

Basel and Clunge in the same group. down.gif

The best result for us would be Cluj to finish 3rd and Basel bottom preferably without winning a game. Although with both playing each other twice, at least one of them will get points.

I paid quite close attention to the Turkish title race last season, as I did the year before when tiny Sivasspor almost won it. The equivalent would involve Everton winning the Premier League. As for Auxerre: they're so small, them making the CL (and winning the French double in 1995/6) is like, well, Norwich doing the same in England. It was always assumed it was all down to the legendary fossil look-a-like Guy Roux; but he retired years ago now, yet they've stayed up there.

In terms of their league structure, it would seem the French authorities are doing plenty that England and Scotland could learn from.

Controversial. Milan look no closer to turning it around but I am not convinced by Ajax. They are certainly a strong side but their manager seems to believe being Fulham manager is a more attractive option. That does not fill me with too much confidence with regards to their chances.

Of course you did.

But in the extremely unlikely event that it is true, you really need to get more.

Yeah, but why would we want any of that when we could have the same teams winning the title every year?

Controversial, for sure. I keep thinking Ajax are bound to walk away with the Dutch title one year, yet they don't. But I think their European pedigree may see them take revenge on Milan, who are just woeful at present. In 2003, Milan needed an injury time winner to stop Ajax knocking them out in the last eight; they went on to win the tournament, and what happened set Ajax back years. They'll be chomping at the bit for vengeance - but can they keep Suarez beyond August 31?

Of course you did.
