jambopompey
Listening to the post match interviews on Hearts World it sounds to me like Kyle will start. i would give him a run out of about an hour then sub him with either S.Elliot as they both need game time to get match fitness up. i wuold like to keep most players in the team to allow them time to gel, a few fringe players to come in, with the possibilty of Zal having a knock i would not wish to risk him, so a slight change to the back line, but we need our defense to get used to each other, whether Barr is moved into central defense and allow J.Thompson to fill in at RB may be a shout. but im sure JJ will have his own team selection and how to play the game and we can all try and second guess him

jambopompey
We do need to win the game - it's not just a training sesh! exactly, even though this is the cup your not aiming for at the start of the season, it is still a national cup, ok not as prestigeious (sp) as the Scottish, but a cup win is a cup win
CJGJ
We do need to win the game - it's not just a training sesh! We do not go into this game with a 'what if' attitude -- this is one game where we can let them do the worrying -- we have a big enough and in this case a good enough squad to make changes and still win well -- this is the worst team in the Scottish League -- if we cannot play fringe and young players at home then when can we so they gain experience and playing time ? Attitude is the only thing that will stop us winning and winning well -- JJ should have enough about him as a manager to ensure that is not an issue -- This is about the season not this one game. I'm not worried, but the professional thing to do is to field our strongest line up - a few of our players are still forming relationships on the field. IMA MAROON
Change the majority for me -- look to Dundee United next week and be fresh for that game. Wholesale changes usually means awful football and scraping results.

Jambof3tornado
If Zal is struggling its not worth risking him. I would use Eggy and Stevenson, and start Kyle beside Callum. A better chance to get some goals we wont have this season. Youngsters on the bench to come on when we have the the game in the bag. I expect blood and guts from every Hearts player and no foot off the gas at 3 up attitudes! game
forthriverjambo
I would stick with largely the same side, a few swaps but nothing major. Kello Barr, Bouzid, Zaliukas, WallaceC.Thomson, McGowan, Jonsson, TempletonElliot, Kyle How many subs are there? Five? Whatever the number is, I'd have the kids on the bench, Robinson, Mulrooney, McGowan etc and give a couple of them a run out once the result is not in doubt. The other sub would be Stevenson, the only reason I'd ease him back in as a sub is that I foresee him being very important to us unless we sign another attack minded central midfielder. what about chucking toto in and give the fans something to talk about. Mick O'Lunacy
Elgin are as poor as they come, let everyone have a game. Barr needs to bed in, I'd go with something like this, Balogh; C Thomson, Barr, Bouzid, Palazuelos; Suso, Jonsson, Stevenson, Novikovas, Kyle, Elliot. If Kyle is able, if not, Templeton in and Suso up front again. I have Ruben at left back as practice for Wallace departure though I pray it doesnt happen next week

Robbo27_22
Change the majority for me -- look to Dundee United next week and be fresh for that game. Balogh, J Thomson, Eggert, Stevenson, Novikovas, Mrowiec and McGowan should all start along wirh one or two others depending upon injury. With a couple of regular defenders playing that team will be more than good enough (attitude permitting) to win the match -- given that Obua, S Elliot and Driver are all injured we could have changed the whole first eleven and still win with comfort. Players need match practice and this is a great chance to do this and keep the momentum going into the week-end. Yip. Let's head back to the rotation policy that worked so well a couple of years back. Or let's follow the policy that saw us tumble out the comp to Livingston under Burley. It's a trophy and I want it in our cabinet. Almost the same team for me - the addition of Kyle up top in a 442 would do it for me.

Yep they have shipped 13 goals in 3 league games. Go at them right from the start and as someone else said, no let up for the whole 90mins. jamboinglasgow
Meant to be a long range specialist IIRC and scores quite often from DMC which is not normal to be honest. His free-kicks are a sight to behold.
151
Start with a strong team, keep the momentum going. Once the game is comfortably beyond Elgin (which should really be before kick off) bring on a few of the regular substitutes to avoid injuries to key names we need injury free for the weekend. In regards to someone saying footballers should be able to play sat-tue-sat... we play United on the sunday.
The Treasurer
Eggy and Stevenson should both start to gain match sharpness. Any players carrying even a minor knock should not be risked, other than that the strongest available team should start. The subs should consist of fringe players/youngsters that can (hopefully) get a run if the result is settled
gorgie_rebel
Never thought it is a good idea to mess around with a winning team unless necessary.......but Elgin City at Tynecastle probably does allow a few changes. I would like to see Eggy and Stevenson given some game time as they are both probably, in JJ's mind, first team players anyway. Maybe would like to see Mcgowan given a start and see how he goes in what will be less of a pressure game. Short of that I would continue to play to the system that JJ is using. Paramount IMO is to avoid any injuries. Would happily settle for a 1 or 2 nil win and everyone fit for The Utd game on Sunday. Still trying to wriggle out of working Tues night but looks like I won't be making the game unless a miracle happens
Gannet
Reckon all the Elgin players need do to fire themselves up for this one is to read some of the comments on this thread. Show a little respect for our opponents please chaps, because as we should all know by now there are NO easy games....unless its against the Hibs! Charlie-Brown
It's a bit like the Alloa game a few years back - in reality any eleven players picked from the senior squad should be good enough to beat Elgin City as long as they play with the correct attitude and professionalism and if they aren't then they shouldn't really be at the club if they can't beat the worst team in Scotland. We should use this opportunity to give opportunities to players who need game time and maybe some of the younger players who need some first team exposure - as long as we're in the draw for the next round I'm not particularly fussed who plays or comes on as sub but i would like to see the likes of McGowan, Novikovas, J.Stewart, Park etc get some game time as well as some of the previously injured or suspended players like Kyle, Jonsson, Stevenson etc.
Snake Plissken
Elgin get pumped regualrly in the Third Divison - anything less than five would be poor. It's a case of how many tomorrow, repsect for your opponents is one thing but c'mon, I'd expect our U-19 team to win. Good chance to give some youngsters a game and give Eggy and Stevo 90 minutes. CBjambo
As poor as Elgin City appear... propping up the Scottish League and all, they do do have in their side the tallest striker in Britain; Paul Miller (6ft 9ins) if the sunday post article is correct... I'd hate us to look stupid by losing to a set piece goal because we fielded a second string side. We should walk this fixture... but we can't ignore the fact they have a 6ft 9ins striker who'll probably dominate our lads from every corner and set piece. So I say show them some respect and field a strong side from the start... we don't need our good form to be stopped by a freak result. Incidently the striker is also in the RAF and his entire family are Jambos... coming to watch him play so that'll give him extra incentive. Phage
Balogh C.Thomson Barr Bouzid Wallace Templeton Jonsson Stevenson Novikovas Suso Elliot subs - Kello, McGowan, Palazuelos, Robinson , Kyle I'd go with that - Run-out for Balogh & Novikovas - Rest Zal if he's picked up a knock? - Get Jonsson & Stevo up to speed for United - Attacking full-backs - Ideally I would play two out and out strikers, but Elliot's the only one that's fully fit. Get Kyle on for the 2nd 45. Id be very happy with this. Would like to see McGowan get on the pitch if we get a few goals in front.
