Team For Tuesday V Elgin City

CJGJ

Recommended Posts

Change the majority for me -- look to Dundee United next week and be fresh for that game.

Balogh, J Thomson, Eggert, Stevenson, Novikovas, Mrowiec and McGowan should all start along wirh one or two others depending upon injury.

With a couple of regular defenders playing that team will be more than good enough (attitude permitting) to win the match -- given that Obua, S Elliot and Driver are all injured we could have changed the whole first eleven and still win with comfort.

Players need match practice and this is a great chance to do this and keep the momentum going into the week-end.

Play our strongest available team. I'd like to win a trophy and this competition is one of only two we have a realistic hope of winning.

And do players really need to be kept "fresh" two games into the season?

Strongest team - keep the confidence up and turn them over.

Pro footballers should be able to play sat-tue-sat.

Hate this resting players tripe. They're professional footballers.

Always play the strongest possible team. No competitive game is unimportant IMO.

I'd be looking to play some fringe players - not because the others need a rest but because of the lack of a reserve league.

We should be looking for at least 5 goals on Tuesday.

Five.

Elgin City have concenceded 13 in 3 games. If Berwick can get 6 past them, we should be talking about getting 7 or more past them.

Whilst I agree with the sentiments I think we need to give fringe players and those returning from suspension competitive playing time -- we are playing at home against the worst team in the Scottish League and with due respect will win -- this is a time to think of the benefit of the squad -- if I thought for a minute we would not get through my thoughts may differ but we will and the bigger picture is important.

This match will not stop our pursuit of trophies but it can give much needed playing time to some players --- no club puts out it's best team in every game and playing those players will boost the well being of the squad.

Put Kyle and C. Elliot up front together. Good chance to get goals and work on developing a partnership. Given that Templton and Suso both seem to be confidence players, then it might make sense to start them both. Also a chance to try a more attacking formating that might give us a different option at home when we need to break down weaker teams.

Still think the defence is struggling to get to know each other (very ropey at crosses), so wouldn't mess with them either. Could give a different goal keeper a run out and think about what to do in central midfield.

I'd start with

Kyle C. Elliot

Suso

Templeton Jonsson Thomson

Wallace Zaliukas Bouzid Barr

Balogh

I would stick with largely the same side, a few swaps but nothing major.

Kello

Barr, Bouzid, Zaliukas, Wallace

C.Thomson, McGowan, Jonsson, Templeton

Elliot, Kyle

How many subs are there? Five? Whatever the number is, I'd have the kids on the bench, Robinson, Mulrooney, McGowan etc and give a couple of them a run out once the result is not in doubt. The other sub would be Stevenson, the only reason I'd ease him back in as a sub is that I foresee him being very important to us unless we sign another attack minded central midfielder.

Cut The Crap

Surely we've had enough rotation in the past five years.

Jonsson and Stevenson in, Palazuelos and Black out. Keep the same defensive unit including goalkeeper, to let them establish a better understanding in time for the much sterner tests ahead. Maybe give Kyle and Elliott a half each?

The only changes made should be to make the team more attack minded, we do not need sitting players v Elgin City.

Jonsson and Stevenson in for Black/Ruben and tell them to push forward.

Kyle for Suso.

Hearts are not in the Champions League etc, so there is no need to make huge changes for this game.

Couple of players will no doubt gets some first team action, and rightly so.

Don't want to cum unstuck in this one - winning is a dam good habit to get used too.

Agree, the cups should be up there on the same level of importance with the league.

Get a strong team out and get the tie won. Hate giving small teams a chance and then they go and knock us out....major regrets afterwards on what could have been.

Suso Jonsson Stevenson Templeton

Kyle C.Elliot

In the absence of Driver and not including Kello for Balogh, that's our first choice XI. Reckon we could win the game with a couple of reserves and younger lads in there, but we need to get that back four gelling, get Jonsson and Stevo a bit of competitive action and give our current first choice strike force a chance to score more while they're firing.

Subs:

McGowan for Jonsson or Stevenson

Novikovas for Temps

Glen for Kyle

That's exactly how I'd play it tbh. With maybe S Elliott given a run out in the 2nd half if he's fit.

I'd play that team but with Stevenson starting instead of McGowan. We shouldnt assume we're going to walk on and demolish this team (although we might) and I say take it seriously until its in the bag. After that lets get key players off to prevent injuries and maybe try a few things out. There is a possibility we could run up a score here but lets not count that chicken before its hatched.

This is a game we should definitely be seeing two up top in, even if thats not going to be the favoured set up in league games.

I'd bring Stevenson and Jonsson in and play Kyle in place of Suso. Would also be tempted to play the Balogh, purely to keep him happy.

I actually think theres a lot of merit in playing some of the fringe players in this game.

I wouldn't go with a reserve side but owing to the fact there is no reserve league, I would be more than happy playing a few players who aren't getting game time at the moment.

I would probably go with something like (assuming all are fit and healthy)

Balogh

J Thomson, Jonsson, Bouzid, Wallace

Suso, Mrowiec/McGowan, Stevenson, Templeton

Clum, Glen

Subs - J MacDonald, Kyle, Prychenko, Mrowiec/McGowan, S Elliot

If Kyle has only trained 4 or 5 times since summer, its probably better giving him maybe only 45 minutes. Clum had a lot of injury problems last season. Hes started this season well. Given the fact the game against United next week is more important, again I'd be tempted to play him for 45 minutes only. Jonsson & Stevenson have only trained so they must start and get a full 90 minutes under their belt.

I would also like to see someone like Prychenko get maybe 30 minutes. He seems to be doing really well at U19 level so moving him into the first team squad for a game like this and giving him a little time will tell us a bit more about his readiness for the first team squad.

As this is 1 of 3 trophies we are in and 1 of two where we have a realistic chance of winning then we should put out or strongest team imo.

Can't make it myself as I'll be working away, not been to a competitive game this season yet.

JJ is still tinkering with his chemistry set in an attempt to find the right blend for his strongest XI.

Therefore, I should be the strongest line up available, with Eggert and Stevenson in from the start, as they need game time to get them up to speed for SPL games.

The back four of Barr, Bouzid, Zal, and Wallace also need more time together to gel properly.

Would also be good for Kyle and/or Stephen Elliott to get some game time.

Even if people think it's a diddy cup, this is a game we can use.

We need to establish our strongest line-up, make chances, score goals, win games, and build up some momentum.

i would keep most of the starting 11 from the hamilton game, keep the back 5 together to allow an understanding to be build with them all, midfield i would make a few changes as you have stated, eggy and stevenson coming in for rubens and black, with Kyle on for suso. allowing Kyle to start alongside Clum, give kyle about 60 minutes and replace him by Steven Elliot.

I saw that the fringe players had a session this morning with JJ in attendance when I was walking past to watch the U17s v Aberdeen. It was good to see Denys Prychynenko getting an outing with the senior players and in the 30 seconds or so that I saw them play he actually scored a goal.

Don't want us to play a completely weakened team but it would be good for some fringe players to get a chance to show they're good enough for the starting eleven.

Something like:

Balogh

J Thomson

Barr

McGowan

Wallace

Templeton

Jonsson

Stevenson

Novikovas

Kyle

Elliot

A right sided midfielder at left back blink.gif

Anyway since it is a lower key match I think he should play so of the youth with the first team players to see how they cope so for me;

Kello

Barr Zal Bouzid Wallace

Temps R.McGowan Robinson Novi

Kyle C.Elliot

We need the 4 and Kello to gel and get used to each other so keeping they the same will probably be for the best. Quite light weight in the midfield but we are only playing Elgin and hopefully Robinson plays well in his prefered position and Kyle need another game to get his fitness up and hopefully Elliot get a few goals to keep the confidence up maybe change on of them for a youth striker just to give them a taste of first team football or if Elliott is fit give him a run out.

I'd go with that

- Run-out for Balogh & Novikovas

- Rest Zal if he's picked up a knock?

- Get Jonsson & Stevo up to speed for United

- Attacking full-backs

- Ideally I would play two out and out strikers, but Elliot's the only one that's fully fit. Get Kyle on for the 2nd 45.

If that is the case I would absolutely rule him out. As stated on another thread, I very rarely see the point in gambling on players fitness as you often lose.
