Anyone know of a cheap reliable place that does them quickly?

Laptop has died - it won't boot ( flashes a blue error code) then shuts down and a destructive restore does the same thing

Looking to get it done quickly but anywere i've tried have said it will take them a week to even look at it

Sounds like your motherboard has gone ( that's just my guess :) ) but with the price of laptops these days it's hardly worth repairing them.

However, there is a specialist laptop repair place just off Princes Street who will check it out for ?30 ( or so ). They looked at my daughters and said it would cost too much to repair but as they valued it at ?40 for spares ( including the cable ) I walked away with a tenner. Seemed reasonable to me.

At which point they did a ?10 fix on it and flogged it on e-bay at a huge profit.

doesnt sound like just a labour thing to me, sounds like you have a hardware fault. If your lucky something has just become unseated, but it sounds like a mobo or psu failure to me.

Sounds like a nasty virus! You had better be quick and throw any other computers you have in a bath full of hot water to contain the virus. Will this fix your problem?

Can it boot into safe mode? If you can do that, follow the instructions here: http://www.tunexp.com/tips/maintain_your_computer/disabling_blue_screen_of_death_auto-reboot/

Then restart the machine and see what error code you get when the machine blue screens. It might give you (or us) an idea of the problem.

Sexton Hardcastle

if you still have the windows disc, boot from that and it will copy the basic files it needs to boot up. This mite even solve any corrupted files and solve the problem fully. Should save lots of tiem and money

If you've already tried a system recovery, it might be the hard drive. Does it make a "clicking" noise? when it's booting up?
