Guru is good but just along the road is the TAJ express at 161 dundee street -- excellent take away -- better than guru in my opinion for take away food.

What's a Parampara packet mate? If I make Indian food myself I normally use Patak's stuff.

Honestly, I've been in India for nearly 4 months this year and unsurprisingly the curries are awesome.

However, prior to me coming out here someone prior to me going out brought me back some parampara mixes and they were way better than what you get from a takeaway here.

Usually all you need to add is either, water, yoghurt or both and meat. Incredibly easy and amazingly tasty - oh and you can buy them for 25 rupees too!

Needless to say I'll be bringing back shed loads and having them instead of a ***** takeaway.

That looks top notch gear mate, and by the look of it they ship to the UK too, although not 100% sure yet.

I'm sure they do. Seriously, you can't go wrong with them. Like a typical Indian dish, it's about flavour with spice not just about spice as it appears to be in the UK.

Edit - the place where I am staying does something similar but I've not tried their packets, however I've tried all their restaurants and the food is amazing:

the link to the UK doesn't appear to be working but I will be buying some before I come home.

I'm wondering if they would only deliver in bulk to Indian's and supermarkets etc, I cant see them shipping 20 or so packets to a wee hoose in Fife

I'm sure I saw somewhere on the net that shipped to the UK, I'll have a look.

I'm having a look on the Parampara Indian website and the place looks as clean as a whistle, and at 24 Rupess it works out at around 31p per sachet, which just shows how much profit Spices of India are making selling them on at ?1.49 per packet.

I've mailed Parampara direct to see if they would sell direct to me, or if I need to go through someone like Spices of India.

Cheers for that mate :2thumbsup:

If you are dabbling in the spices of india site then you might as well but some of this stuff:

http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.spicesofindia.co.uk%2Fcgi-bin%2Fss000001.pl%3FSS%3D%26S_BRAND1_0%3DParampara%26TB%3DA&SS=sambar&ACTION=Go&PR=-1&TB=A&SHOP=

not tried it but I'll be buying it. Had lots of sambar out here where it is typically served with a dosa and it's lovely - it's like a spicy soup with random veg in it.

There is nothing to be scared of in making home made curries. The packets of ready made spice mixes will do at a pinch, but there is nothing better than making it from scratch. First of all get yourself a decent recipe book, most will have your restaurant favourites in there. Next, pretty much without exception most spices are available in all the supermarkets, if you can't find them there, well try one of the "Ethnic" stores, for instance theres a wee place on Gorgie Road just a couple of doors along from the bottom of Robbie Ave, they have pretty much everything you'll need for DIY curries (mind you it really freaks out the stewards if you show up at the match with all those goodies in a bag). After that its pretty much plain sailing, all the veggies, fish, and meats are available everywhere. Next thing you might consider is a wee cheap coffee /spice grinder. Now literally your cooking with gas.

After a wee while you'll become both competent, and confident enough to try a few variations, this is where the fun really begins. Over the years I have had to throw away a few disasters, but more often than not I've come up with a really tasty treat.

One valuable lesson, never be tempted to use Olive oil in your ruby, unless it specifically recommends it, otherwise it makes a trully horrible curry.

Enjoy.
