portobellojambo1
Jut wondering if anyone else has been having problems connecting to JKB over the last couple of days. Yesterday I got home from work around 16:50, got on to the site for around 10-15 minutes and then got disconnected. I was then unable to reconnect to the site until around 22:00 last night. Have had similar problems again tonight. I'd be more inclined to suspect it was possibly a problem at my end if it wasn't for the fact I have no problems accessing any other websites. Ulysses
Not me. We had similar problems a few months back, and it turned out to have a technical explanation I couldn't fully understand - something to do with network routing from the UK to the US. It was affecting some users and not others, and seemed to depend to some extent on your ISP - but didn't affect everyone with the "problem" ISPs. If it happens to you, try a traceroute (it won't help fix the problem, but it might help explain things to us). I don't know how this works on other systems, but for Windows it's usually: Start Run... Type CMD in the dialog box and click OK. You'll get a window with a command prompt. Type tracert hmfckickback.co.uk and see what you get. This is telling you the route taken by data from your computer to the JKB server (in a maximum of 30 hops). Mostly what you see should consist of numbers, which are hop times from one point in the network to the next in milliseconds. But if what you see includes a few asterisks then there's a connection problem somewhere along the way. If that happens, try to copy the log and paste it into a message to Dexter or me. Last time around, members found enough information using traceroute for us to be able to tell the server company approximately where the breakdown was. Sorry, best I can do for the moment. Rab
For reasons that I suppose are pretty specific, I think this thread is brilliant First we have pj1 representing the 0.001% of PC users who seek a solution to their problem knowing full well the problem could quite possibly be theirs: Jut wondering if anyone else has been having problems connecting to JKB over the last couple of days. Aren't the servers in Ireland? Could be wrong. No, they're in the States. From what I've seen so far, the problem seems to be being caused by a single relay at CariNet in San Diego, who appear to host the site, but this relay only seems to come into play if the request originates from a certain route (the route that Virgin sends it over?). portobellojambo1
I've had the same problems. Just this site as well. PJ you're Virgin Broadband aren't you ? The reason I ask as that I'm with Virgin too and I think it might be them that's the problem. I am indeed. apologies for the delay in coming back, got in tonight for about 10 minutes at 19:00, and that's me just got back in now. It's beginning to get a right pain in the feckin tits. redjambo
Haven't got a scooby what you're talking about tbh. Ah, ok. I mostly don't know what I'm talking about either. . A proxy is a website that allows you to access other websites through it. Mostly people use them to allow a measure of anonymous surfing on the web (if set up correctly, only the proxy knows who you are, not the destination). However in this case, the route taken from Virgin to the proxy server and then to the KB site will most probably be different to the one that it would have taken directly, and thus you may be able to avoid the blockage. Bordeaux 03
Haven't got a scooby what you're talking about tbh. A proxy is just when data goes somewhere else before it goes to it's actual destination. Instead of going straight from you computer to hmfckick.co.uk, it goes to somewhere else in the world before that. I think that's a simple defintion. portobellojambo1
Cheers for that, but the adverts are a pain:th_o: I'm using the same proxy server as you in the short term, till this problem is resolved one way or another. I'm using Mozilla Firefox and have the Adblock Plus add on installed. I simply click on Adblock Plus, when it then shows all the blockable options highlight them all and press enter. Hey presto, no more adverts.
