How far would you travel for fish and chips??

I'd currently go for Globetrotter in Bruntsfield.

This is becoming a monthly thread. Anyway, quite like The Gorgie Fry, but the best in Edinburgh.................L'alba D'oro just off Dundas Street.

I remember the days when the BBQ was untouchable. Recently though, it has been bad enough to put me off the chippy altogether.

Tbh, I would only buy a fish supper from the Anstruther Fish Bar now - not much use if you're just popping out in Edinburgh I realise!

BBQ is ok. My vote goes to Monte Bianco just up the road from me, over the road from Prego. Top notch chippy, plus they do fresh pizza and very good kebabs.

Na on Balgreen Rd - just opposite Luckies pub - we get it delivered :)

I meant where in Saughtonhall are you from? :stuart:

Can't be too far from me as there are about 3 streets with that name.

Balgreen Fryer :)

It's near my house but I still walk past it to go to the Gorgie Fry instead... unless I'm feeling really lazy. It's not bad but I never thought I would see the Balgreen suggested as the best in the city.

Eatalias on Leith Walk is decent.

I quite like the one on Yeaman place as well. Might be a convenience thing though.

Ben Hur in Roseburn is one to avoid. Just so you know. :curtain:

That's putting it lightly. The place is positively minging.

Agreed mate. Walk another 5 minutes along the road and go to the Monte Bianco. :10900:

Tailend in Leith Walk is best. Fact. End of. :smiley2:

It;s run by the guys who used to have the Anstruther Fish Bar so it should be good. Great selection of fish.

I think the BBQ is the best.

The one at Roseburn is horrible.

Anstruther is over rated imo.

There's a really nice one in Coatbridge, but I'd never find it again! :10900:

pentland fry has never let me down

Chrissy, sorry but have to disagree.

I was in there just last week and thought it was hot & fresh enough, but pretty tasteless.

Agree with the previous poster, Globetrotter in Brunstfield is superb, with an honourable mention to the Chip Inn at Oxgangs.

Franco's on Raeburn Place is a goodie. There's also a good one down broughton street. Not the one at the top which is pretty awful

The Rapido Bill? It's pretty good, as is the Deep Sea opposite the Playhouse, although you have your wits about you there late at night with all neds hanging around the Omni.

the corbie

The Corbie was class about 8 years ago.

It went downhill when the old family that owned it sold up.

The Gorgie does a nice fish and chips but the Tailend is first class. Never tried the L'alba D'oro pla(i)ce but Tam Cowan raves about it so will do one day.

My local chip shop ( Pia's ) is pretty damned good as well. :smiley2:

Is this the same answer I gave last month? :th_o:
