The thread about Tynie being voted as having the best atmosphere linked to the full report of the fans' survey, which I thought was interesting enough to summarise if anyone wants to know what was said. I'll do it mainly from a Hearts point of view.

Full report here.

Sample

2567 fans were surveyed online compared to just under 1000 last time.

The OF's fans provided over 1000 of the responses, with Hearts fans coming in 6th with 141 responses (5.5% of the total).

Demographics

The average respondant was male aged 16-25.

2.1% of the Hearts respondants had supported the team for less than a year (second lowest after Rangers who had 0.6%).

Matchday Attendance

The majority of all respondants (71.5%) attended at least 11 of their own team's matches each season.

Falkirk had the highest percentage of respondants who went to all of their team's matches (10.9%), followed by Hibs (7.8%) and Celtic (7.1%).

Reasons for not attending more matches were, in order:

  • Ticket Costs - 47.2%

  • Work Commitments - 37.4%

  • Travel Costs - 35.6%

  • Family Commitments - 29.4%

  • Travel Time - 25.3%

  • Ticket Availability - 20.2%

  • Can watch game on TV - 16.3%

  • Kick off time - 14.3%

Matchday Experience

Fans who felt their club provided an "excellent" matchday experience:

  1. Celtic
  2. Rangers
  3. Hamilton
  4. Falkirk
  5. Hearts
  6. Kilmarnock
  7. Dundee United
  8. Hibernian :001_9898:
  9. Inverness
  10. Aberdeen :001_9898:
  11. St Mirren
  12. Motherwell :001_9898:

56.1% of all fans felt "non-football" entertainment (pre-match/half-time) was average or worse, but 56.7% of Hearts fans felt it was above average or excellent.

Almost two-thirds of all fans felt the match atmosphere at SPL games was above average or excellent.

Hearts came out on top with 71.6% of our fans voting Tynecastle's atmosphere as excellent. The second season in a row we've come out top.

Celtic and Rangers came second and third with 57.8% and 51.9% :56:

Over 80% of all fans thought the condition of their home pitch was either excellent or above average. :20:

Expectations :qqb006:

Most popularly predicted league and cup placings (selected):

Hearts: SPL - 3rd; SC - Semi final; LC - Semi final

Hibernian: SPL - 3rd; SC - Semi final; LC - Semi final :laugh4:

Aberdeen: SPL - 3rd; SC - semi final; LC - semi final

Dundee United: SPL - 3rd; SC - semi final; LC - semi final

Motherwell: SPL - 5th; SC - semi final; LC - semi final

Over 75% of Rangers fans expected their team to win the Scottish Cup, followed by over 65% of Celtic fans, around 15% of Hearts fans and, wait for it...

around 13% of Hibs fans expected their team to win the Scottish Cup this season :108years:

Rules and Regulations

56.6% of fans thought the standard of refereeing was below average or poor, with a further 32.6% rating it as average.

Almost a third of respondants thought the rules on diving/simulation weren't enforced strongly enough, followed by time wasting, surrounding/abusing officials and shirt pulling.

59.8% of respondants wanted to see the rules on over-celebrating abolished or amended, 16% wanted a rule change for having to leave the pitch after treatment and 21.4% wanted the offside rule changed.

Over 80% of fans wanted video replays introduced to some level.

88.3% wanted refs to wear microphones during matches.

81.8% wanted goal line technology.

60.8% of fans wanted the reintroduction of a winter break, either through starting the season earlier, ending it later, or including more midweek matches.

Media

The most commonly read papers were The Record and The Sun, and the Sunday Mail and NotW on Sundays.

72.6% of respondants listened to BBC Radio Scotland for football news while an idiotic (my words, not theirs) 31.7% still tune in to Real Radio.

The clever folk at the Clydesdale Bank successfully mis-spelled "Fourth" One.

SPL investment

Celtic, Hearts and Rangers fans preferred their clubs to invest in buying higher quality players.

Inverness, Hibs and Motherwell would rather see their clubs using their resources to keep their best players.

Hamilton, Kilmarnock, Falkirk, St Mirren, Dundee United and Aberdeen fans wanted their clubs to invest in bringing through young players.

Sponsorship

Incredibly only 97.7% of respondants managed to select their club's shirt sponsor out of a list of all SPL shirt sponsors!

Fortunately us Hearts fans aren't stupid and we all correctly selected the Lithuanian sounding one. All the Falkirk and Inverness fans also managed to find their own team's sponsors.

SPL clubs in the community

80.9% of all respondants agreed that their team made a significant contribution to the local community.

All Hearts and Hamilton respondants agreed that their teams made significant contributions to the local community.

That's pretty much it.

Found it slightly interesting, but maybe I'm a geek.

You may be a geek but I liked it too...!

Particularly unsurprised by the fact that all but 90% of fans think the standard of referreeing in Scotland is no better than average...!! We can't all* be wrong...!
