Does anyone else think that we have been getting our fair share of decisions in our favour from refs lately?

I have called refs for everything in the past, but think that more good decisions have been coming our way. (definately over the past few weeks) And long may it continue!

its been a refreshing change.

but it has never been heavily in our favour, only fair for both teams.

we have got about 10 years of decisions in our favour until things even start to even themselves out........

we get the odd decision in our favour, but only because they have to make it look as if there's no bias.

i'll only admit there's no bias when everything goes against us.

Its been a long time baby

We got a penalty when we shouldnt have in the 1st min of the 98 cup final and could have one against us when McCoist went down in the closing minutes of that game as well

Perth to Paisley

Baggio was inside the box, MCoist was outside. - simple

I know; because I was there [and in line-ish].

For the 800 millionth time, the McCoist incident was at least as far outside the the box as the Fulton one, if no further. And Willie Young did give a penalty, only for the linesman to bail him out.

Aye, and FEKK ALL since Levein slaughtered the Hibby McDonald!

Recently we have maybe had a larger share of the 50/50's which looks like we are getting decisions as the vast majority of referees have been so ridiculously biased against us for so long!

I've said all along I don't want us to get favours - just parity!

rant over!

Porter's goal that beat us at Motherwell could easily have been given as a foul.

Flecther's red card could easily have been a yellow.

I wouldn't argue with anyone who said both decisions were correct.

I think it's been pretty even.

Yeah like I said, we shouldnt have had a pen cos it wasnt one, just saying that we could have one against us because it wouldnt be the first time we had one against us when we shouldnt have

Why do people ALWAYS bring this up as if to prove a point? A lot has happened since then including Davisgate so please give this one a rest. Refs in this country ARE biased. How do I know? Simple No-one, not even GW Bush could do their job so badly so often.

It's because we've had a run of having the better officials in charge of our games recently - Callum Murray, Craig Thomson and even Charlie Richmond are far better than the likes of Brines, Collum, or McDonald. I see we have Steve Conroy on Saturday so our run of decent referees will come to a juddering halt.

Everytime I see an incident (eg. Riordan's gesture last week), my first thought is "Miko would have got red carded for that".

Scott Brown's celebration at pittodrie knocking the linesman flying.

Kris Boyd constantly falling over in the box (the boy has perfected it better than Pressley)

Things have calmed down a bit recently (lets not forget Zaliukas at the sheep pen), but it was quite clear that referees were going against us at every opportunity with Miko in particucular getting it tight.

This is not a maroon tinted rant, i am a qualified official and like to look objectively at what happened and what the ref may have interpretted what happened. My conclusion has always been, Romanov's rants about cheats, monkeys etc started it, then Miko's penalty dive at hampden gave them the opportunity to 'stamp their authority'. These refs all go out socialising together, no doubt having a good laugh at our expense unable to see they are now bigger cheats than we supposedly are.

Rant:mad: over

Yep, I think it's as simple as that. However it'll be interesting to see what happens once we get one of those other plums.

A mate of mine is a lower grade Ref and I'm pretty sure he warned me early doors about Brines being rushed through. Well going by what he's telling me now, Gremlins 2...'the new batch'...........is going to be quite scary

Until Referee's are allowed to use common sense then IMO nothing much will change.

The other unfortunate thing is that the top level referee's in Scotland are not very good at what they do.....thats the bottom line.

Do not forget also that Referee's are under pressure by the GFA and if they do not do as they wish then they will be repremanded.

Would you not want there job?

I would not, thats for sure.

Is it not too much to ask that referees give decisions on what they see rather than what the old firm rags would like them to give.

You may well be right there - in days gone by referees had to serve a fairly lengthy apprenticeship doing Junior matches in places like Bathgate, Whitburn, Fauldhouse, Arniston, Newtongrange etc etc. That seems to have been watered down and there are at least a couple on the senior list just now who have only done a season or two doing these matches. Their lack of real experience shows through.

I disagree. Sky TV had a camera angle that ran along the line of the penalty box from behind the goal and the pictures show that Fulton was on the line of the box when Ferguson fouled him (for the second time in the opening 29 seconds!).

McCoist let his leg collapse on the first challenge half a foot outside the box. He was also touched again inside, but by that time, his deckchair legs had folded to win the foul.

Both could've been given either way of course, but the two decisions were indeed called correctly, and that to be should never be considered to be some sort of favour.

Correct. It was also 11 years ago, and really shouldn't be used as an argument when discussing the current attitude of referees to our players. As has been said before, incidents such as Levein v SFA, Davisgate, and Miko v Scotland have coloured the perception of our players since that time.

The other point for the '98 Final was the ref was Willie Young who in my opinion was the last of the old school refs who while they made mistakes it was never in doubt they were honest ones with no sense of bias whereas the refs today seem to enter the field with agendas and preconceptions

I know most of our problems have been of our own making, and I don't think anyone is suggesting that we would ever have won the league, but with a bit of balance, surely you can see that in many cases over the last few years the referee has been more inclined to book the player rather than the incident (foul, dive, whatever)?

It was only meant as a light hearted comment mate, but if you want to discuss it seriously, happy to do so. :)

IMO, the vast majority of refs call it as they see it. There may be the odd dodgy ref, and refs certainly get influenced by crowds shouting at them (so big clubs will tend to get some decisions at home), but I'm not one of those football fans who think there is a big conspiracy against their club.

The thing that clinches it for me, is that almost every football club in the world has a large number of fans who think the refs are out to get at their club. Every club in the world has fans who think this. Clearly, they can't all be right, otherwise refs would be out to get every club.....

I think the reality is, fans see what they want to see, finding it difficult to forget the ones which go against their team, and finding it easy to overlook the ones that go for their team.

thats why so many fans of so many clubs (HMFC included) think the refs are out to get them.

I pretty much agree with this assertion JR but if I can ask your opinion about the Andy Davis incident.

Did Mr Davis, of Govan Police Station, award Rangers a penalty unfairly?

If the answer is yes: then is it only Andy Davis guilty of cheating or is it the organisation that he represents by whom which stood by him.

It only takes a one splash of lemonade to make a lager, 'tops'.

IMO probably yes. It's certainly one of the best "claims" we've got. But can we prove anything, no as far as I'm aware.

I think there probably is the odd corrupt ref out there. But there are corrupt people in all walks of life, and without proof, there's little can be done about them....

I agree but to answer my question, does one bent SFA official make the SFA bent?

...bearing in mind the SFA put Davis into that crucial game and stood by him afterwards.

Given the alarming circumstances, I am stunned that they never found Davis guilty of cheating.

Their lack of appreciation of the events of that night has them as guilty as the Govan linesman in my book.

They were totally culpable before the game - by appointing a linesman from Govan. Offficials are supposed to be neutral. End of.

Fair enough mate. I just don't think anything can be done without proof.

As Hearts fan, we think the Davis decison was the worst of the worst. If you asked fans of any other club, they'd all say there was some other decision, which went against their team, which is the worst of the worst.

I don't think you can dismiss our claims of.........well lets call it unfair treatment.....by offering up ONE PENALTY AWARD FROM 1998 and by just stating that..........pffffft all fans tend to think the ref is agin them !

Some Hobos fans happily went into print saying Fletchers tackle "was never a card" full stop.

Now that kind of blinkered reasoning IS NOT what the Hearts collective have offered up over these last two seasons or more.

What we have highlighted are countless incidents where the Ref has had a clear view of a Hearts player being 'brought to the ground' yet he ( and both his ever vigilant assistants ) saw nothing untoward ............or situations where he could not possibly have seen an incident clearly yet ( without feeling the need to ask either of his assistants ) decides to award the ultimate sanction to one of our players ?

This of course is compounded when the Ref sees fit NOT to alter his decision during any appeal.

The way I see it is that I can remember the refs giving terrible decisions in favour of the OF against us as long as I've been watching football, which has been a common complaint of all non OF teams since the dawn of time.

What I have noticed though is that, starting with the Levein/McDonald incident, and then gradually more and more so through Davisgate, Romanov's rants and Miko's dive against Scotland that there has been some kind of agenda against Hearts, rather than just pro the OF.

I don't remember feeling that way about so many decisions in games against non OF teams in the past. Yes, of course there were bad decisions in these games but they didn't seem so frequent and they didn't seem to be so inconsistently applied against us in comparison to other teams, usually just put down to incompetent refs.

The same applies to negative media coverage as well.

The last few games haven't been too bad (funnily enough since all the hoo-ha over the Zaliukas incident) but one swallow does not a summer make. I fear it'll be back to the more of the same before too long.

Or am I just being paranoid?
