depends on who you are i suppose. If you were Jewish you'd definatly be offended.

I'm Jewish; my grandmother is a survivor of Auschwitz and Mauthausen. And I cannot understand this furore at all: offensive, it ain't.

Why?

cos he killed millions of Jewish people for no reason at all and put the rest into concentration camps. Then this reporter says '1902 - same year as Hitler was 13 years old', that's like celebrating his life. pretty sick imo and i can see why people were offended.

Hitler's the best know person from that era (early to mid 1900s). Surely that's why he chose him. Not everything has to be dissected until you find another reason why it was said.

who cares if he's 'best known', he's known for all the wrong reasons. The guy just shouldn't have said it, he did though and it looks like he got away with it so it doesn't really matter now anyway

And it makes me angry that that is often forgotten, and barely commemorated.

No - he was as bad to the Jews, Romany, homosexuals, physically and mentally handicapped and Slavic peoples in the East. That's what I mean about it annoying me that this is all often forgotten.

Didn't he shoot them all too, though? Or have I been watching too much Downfall?

not forgetting those with mental illnesses, although most people do.

that's going a wee bit off-topic; like I said before, a nothing remark that shouldn't have received any attention in the press :S

Well, for a comment on the Scottish Cup draw, it seems in a (very) small way to have reminded people of Hitler's crimes and perhaps extended some people's knowledge of the extent of those crimes. Not a reason to be offended IMO.

Indeed - though I thought I'd covered that with 'mentally handicapped'. More or less, anyway. :)

I can't remember, tbh. Maybe one of his lackeys kills the dogs in the film, but I'm sure he shoots Eva.

Anyway, back on topic:

I really don't think so.

So what harm did Tanner bring on the human race with that stat? Hitler happened and we cannot forget that. It would be wrong to do so.

Roll over, Mel Brooks.

Plot summary for The Flair Producers

Down-on-his-luck football manager Max "Mixu" Biyalistok is forced to romance rich old ladies to finance his efforts. When timid accountant Rod Petrie reviews Max's results, the two hit upon a way to make a fortune by producing a sure-fire flop. The play which is to be their gold mine? "Springtime for Hibees."

(drivel continues...)

Our chums in Lochend have never been that great at dealing with the facts and that's all this is. It is a fact beyond dispute that Adolf Hitler was 13 when Hibernian last lifted Scottish football's national cup.

The followers of the wee team prefer to float around in a world where they taught Brazil how to play and getting horsed is acceptable as long as they played 'the hibs way'

I can imagine some no mark frothing at the mouth spunking most of his giro phoning Sky to complain. it amuses me.

Not at all. The last time Hibs won the cup, Hitler was 12 years and 347 days old. He was born on 20/4/1889 and Hibs won the cup on 2/4/1902.

Incorrect. Statto.com tells us that Hibs won the Cup on 26/4/1902. :P

Once in a while, there are comments on JKB that are absolutely staggering. Once in a while, there are comments that you simply cannot answer due to their astonishing nature. The above post is one of those posts. I will repost this from another poster albeit with a small change for the pedants. :P

It's called revisionism. It's as much of a hibs thing as flair football :)

I've just looked at a 1902 calendar and April 26 was a Saturday. April 2 was a Wednesday, so the 26th it was.

The site I looked at ( http://www.rsssf.com/tabless/scotcuphistfull.html#02 ), said 2/04/1902. It is possible they made a typo, in which case Hitler would indeed have been 13 years old when Hibs won the cup. Sorry if I got it wrong.

I used to use the RSSSF site all the time before discovering statto.com. It's the best: accept no lesser imitations! :)

It had hitler and he supported shalke 04

Still, better than a pair of speccy freaks eh.

Of course there's also the amusing irony in daily mail readers getting upset about hitler....
