If he'd been fined we should have chipped into pay it as it was very funny. I can well imagine people who don't know about it wondering why he was talking about hitler, buffalo bill, the boer war etc.

he did turn 13 that year, hibs haven't won the cup since then; I don't see the problem?

"Andy Cairns, boss of Sky Sports News, personally dealt with one viewer complaint. A Sky Sports spokesman added: ?We apologise for any offence caused.?"

Must have been a hobo ****** that complained.

I am normally pretty PC but really struggle to see what's offensive about this.

It only seems to be offensive to the Hobos.:P

What a joke!!!

Can we not mention his name without someone being offended?

These easily offended people need to lock their doors and NEVER leave their house as if they think thats bad - welcome to life

I find it VERY funny as it takes the pee out of the diddy boys

Oh my goodness, sometimes i hate the world we live in the day.

I challenge anyone to try to explain to me WTF is offensive about that! Hitler was Hitler, his name isn't unmentionable ala Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series (geeky side coming out...!).

What a joke.

I think most people who read the Daily Mail are easily offended, indeed i believe that's why they buy it.

Have to agree with general consensus - what is offensive about that?

Perhaps it was a German who called complaining about the association of Hitler with Hibs and the embarrasment it causes their nation?

Would the relatives of those who were killed when the Titanic sunk have been offended as well if Tanner had used that as a refference to how long it is since they last won the cup, by saying it wasn't even a blueprint at the time? Or mentioned that the great war hadn't even started.

Only 1 complaint made, as i said in original reply it was probably from a Hobo, I'd put a bet on that.

Storm in a tea cup, but I suppose what relevance did Hitler's age have to do with when Hubz won the Cup for there one and only time?

Had he been born in that year fair enough.

For the record, Stalin was 24, Churchill was 28 and Roosevelt was 20.

Lenin was 32

I read Hitler supported Linz in Austria as a kid. Probably when he was 13...

I wonder if Hobos cup win was reported in the Linz Daily Record?

Schalke 04 is a new one on me.:107years:

That's exactly what makes it amusing. Linking a date with something totally irrelevant and off the wall is comedy genius - it takes the pesh out of statisticians

I wasn't aware that Clare Tomlinson was sacked but the bit at the end of the article suggests she was "dealt with" because someone else spelled out the C word. Why did she get sacked for that?

Perhaps there was a few young Jambo's out there that didn't know that Hitler was aged 13 the last time the Hob's won the cup. :107years:

I'm just shocked that he never mentioned that Therese Brandl, a Nazi Concentration camp guard, was born in that year.

Hitler may have turned 13, but it was her actual birthyear!

That was the bit that got me as well, why would she be sacked for what Bywater done? Anyway, I don't see what's wrong with mentioning Hitler - the history channel does it all the time :) Just because it was maybe a bit irrelevant doesn't mean it was offensive.

Basically, Bywater spelled out the offending word - as in "Joe Bloggs is a right C U" etc - and Tomlinson failed to apologise for it.

Thanks for that, I didn't know what had happened. Seems harsh though - poor girl.

So old Adolf was thwarted on 3 fronts then:-

Western Front

Russian front

a bunch of shop fronts not winning "Der Scottische Koppe" Dring his Fuhrership.

Seriously...it must have been a slow news day for the mail to pick up on this. As for Sky taking any complaints seriously, why dont they grow a set of henry halls & tell any complainants, to Foxtrot oscar & get a life.

Giving these pedantic retards the oxgen of publicity, only serves to ehance the moral indignation of the pc brigade.

I am totally bemused at what the problem is here. Stalin was 23, Churchill was 27 and FDR was 20. If he'd said Hibs last won the cup only 104 years prior to the last time Hearts had lifted it, I can see how that might have offended some of the weeteamsters.

The Mighty Thor

Our chums in Lochend have never been that great at dealing with the facts and that's all this is. It is a fact beyond dispute that Adolf Hitler was 13 when Hibernian last lifted Scottish football's national cup.

The followers of the wee team prefer to float around in a world where they taught Brazil how to play and getting horsed is acceptable as long as they played 'the hibs way'

I can imagine some no mark frothing at the mouth spunking most of his giro phoning Sky to complain. it amuses me.
