I thought both Aguiar and Driver had quite up and down games. Full marks for effort but less for application.

 

For me Palazuelos was the MOTM, with the CBs and Karapidis next. Ruben has added bite to his game, worked like a Trojan, some great skills including a sublime dink over Ferguson and when he made his one error midway through the second half he chased the Rangers player a la Stewart all the way to make sure the ball went out of play.

 

Kingston was excellent in the first half and was the inspiration for most of our play - A very good return to the team. Robbie was also particularly good in the first half, and didn?t make any of his trademark gaffes until the start of the second. Solid overall though.

 

The 2 CBs were immense and Rangers never got a sniff. We even scored their goal for them, which was unlucky for Karapidis who was also very strong.

 

Wallace was unlucky for that first booking but the second was a daft lunge - Burke played for both bookings though and Rangers seemed to be so busy diving and trying to fool the ref (Davie Weir winning a free kick for running into Obua! ) that they forgot to try to create anything. MacDonald had little to do. The Gers were totally without width and out-played in the middle, we deserved to beat them.

First time i have ever seen Berra really act like a captain and was (hard hat on) Pressley like today!

I'd agree with the scores, but I'd give Wallace a 7 - up to the sending off I thought he was having a good game.

Wallace -6- weak point of the defence, struggles to get the amount of attacking right with defence

Berra - 8 -Dominant and did everything asked of him

Karipidis - 7 - midfield was superb and did exactly what was needed

Zaliukas -9 - Brillant and showed his doubters wrong

Aguiar - 9 - why was he not that good before the injuries, absolutely superb and ran the midfield, linked well with driver and kingston and seemed to be on same wavelength

Nade - 7 - Worked hard

Kingston - 8 - looked hungry

Driver - 8 - Got space and played well, seemed a bit lost at times when the huns gifted him space

Subs:

Chesney - 3 - no time, hopefully another who will rediscover form under Csaba

Aguiar 8 - 2 good free kicks for the goals. Been excellent since his return.

 

Nade 7 - Caused the back 4 problems throughout. A few more goals and his confidence will begin to grow.

Jonsson 5 - Wasn't involved all that much. Solid.

Cesnauskis 4 - Didn't get too much of the ball. Made some good runs.

Obua 4 - There's definitely a player there. Looked good when he came on.

I thought Zaliukas, Berra and Palazuelos were all outstanding today.

 

MacDonald - 7 - Didn't have a save to make that I can remember. Commanded his box well.

 

Neilson - 7 - Flew into some excellent challenges in the first half, thought his control was poor in the second.

Zaluikas - 9 - Man of the Match for me. Won every header that came his way, can't think of anything he did wrong. In the right place for the goal too.

Berra - 9 - Excellent alongside Zaluikas. Owned one of the Rangers midfielders before that shot in the first half.

Wallace - 5 - Thought he'd done well up til his first booking. Has a tendancy to get caught on the wrong side and then make a rash challenge to try and win it back. He did it today and should be thankful he didn't cost us the win.

 

Kingston - 8 - Different man from before his injury. Tracked back, put in a couple of excellent tackles, looked up for a physical battle and got the winner. Keep it up

Karipidis - 7 - Had a great game apart from that 5 min period where the whole team played at 200mph after our second which led to him scoring a weird OG.

Palazuelos - 8 - Excellent game. He occasionally wants too long on the ball but was alert to pick up loose balls and close players down. Stewart shouldn't get back in next week IMO.

Driver - 7 - Seemed strangely unsure about taking his man on considering everything he's been saying since last week. Didn't make any mistakes but a slightly quiet game from him when Broadfoot was surely there for the taking.

 

Aguiar - 8 - Finally we have some one who can take set pieces! Two great balls in which led to the goals. Fell out of it a bit at times but was always a threat with his vision and passing which must be up there with the best in Scotland.

 

Nade - 8 - Worked very hard, won plenty of headers and linked up well with Aguiar. If he was a prolific goalscorer along with that he would never be a Hearts player.

 

Laszlo - 9 - Made the correct subs IMO. Aguiar had fallen away a bit and Nade and Kingston were clearly tiring. Jonsson tightened it up a bit while Obua gave the Rangers defence something different to deal with.

McDonald - 7 Looks confident and commanding, great punch out aat one point. His kicking is better than the other two as well. Give him a run now, B&K had their shot.

 

Neilson -8 A couple of wayward passes at times but Robbie is exactly what this team needs at right back.

 

Zaliukas - 8 Really pleased for the big man. He has risen to the challenge and played a great game today. Wonderful feeling when I saw him put that ball in the back of that number two's net!

 

Berra - 9 Are you Pressley in disguise? Immense game and I think he assisted on both goals but can't wait for the highlights. Berra must stay.

 

Wallace - 8 Great performance, linked well with driver again, made some great runs outside and infield. The game was very physical and Wallace paid the price for the Rangers bookings.

 

Palazuelos - 8 Best performance of the season. Made some great tackles, passed well and kept Ferguson and Mendes out of the game.

 

Karapidis - 8 Excellent as usual. This guy looks like a defensive mid. How can anyone question him in this role?

 

Kingston - 8 Rose to the occasion, always looking for the ball, constantly running at defenders, looking for space and scored a strikers goal.

 

Driver - 8 Continued the great performance from last week.

 

Aguiar - 9 Plays so well in this position. Controls the whole midfield. He is a naturally attacking player and should never have been played in the Brellier role 2 years ago.

 

Nade - 8 Worked hard and dragged their defenders all over the place.

 

 

Csaba - 10 This guy is responsible for everything we do well. He understands the players, knows where to play them and recognises how to get the best from them.

 

I'm just waiting for the Hobos to tell me that we've only beaten the 5 worst teams in the league.

Well done Csaba and all the lads. They made Rangers look even more ordinary than they are but let's not kid ourselves, we can't go through the rest of the season with heroic, backs to the wall performances without losing a few sore ones.

I thought he was the worst Hearts player before the fouls - several missed passes and ran into trouble needlessly. Looked nervous on his clearances. I'd have given him and Nielson 6s prior to the sending off but agree with the 4 - the first foul in particular was unnecessary

ive not seen the footage either so im maybe being a bit harsh, but i thought he was only going down the wing and at worse would have put a cross in, sure another hearts player was getting back as well....

McDonald 7 - Had little to do and collected a couple of high balls well.

 

Neilson 7 - Passing was very poor in the second half but all through the game his tackling and overall defensive work was very good.

 

Berra 9 - Boyd got the beating of him once or twice but overall I thought he dealt with everything very well and the back four as a whole looked solid - which Christophe should earn massive amount of respect for.

 

Zaliukas 9 - Right place at the right time to score the score and with the exception of a daft foul or two he did very well. His aerial presence was first class as always.

 

Wallace 4 - Deserved to be sent off which really could have landed us in a lot of trouble. Gave away the ball two frequently and struggled badly in the air against Lafferty.

 

Karipidis 9 - Only thing stopping him from getting a 10 was a very unfortunate OG. Otherwise he was outstanding. Constantly broke up play, kept the ball and the team calm and even contributed further forward this week. MotM.

 

Palazuelos 9 - A vital part of the team today, his cool head and ability to collect and keep the ball was vital for our win. Still doesn't look like anything remotely threatning in the final third but he and Karipidis meant we bossed the middle of the park up against the much-heralded Mendes and Ferguson.

 

Kingston 8 - One of his better peformances for the season. Looked a threat everytime we went forward and, like Zaliukas, was in the right place at the right time to score the decisive 2nd goal.

 

Aguiar 8 - Not everything came off for him but his vision, awareness and passing ability was clearly evident in a first 30 minutes when we played Rangers off the park.

 

Driver 7 - Wasn't quite on form today but his directness and pace still caused Rangers problems at times. He is now developing a presence which helps Hearts whenever he is on the pitch, regardless of the quality of his display in itself.

 

Nade 8 - Held the ball up very well, linked well with the midfield and even did a very good job in the air today. Probably still needs to improve fitness, work a little harder and get inside the box more often but a great performance nontheless.

 

 

Subs

 

Jonsson 7 - Sub seemed a little premature at the time but he did what he was brought on to do. That was to work hard and to provide cover on the right hand side. No coincidence Rangers got nothing down the left after he came on.

 

Cesnauskis 6 - Never had much opportunity to show his ability but contributed regardles with some hard work chasing down.

 

Obua 6 - Showed some nice touches which helped keep us in control but needs to learn the value of closing someone down.

 

 

Laszlo 10 - Selection of Palazuelos over Jonsson was key to how much we dominated things in the first half an hour. Wasn't afraid to put Larry back in after being out for as many games as he had, that was also a key factor in the win. Bringing Jonsson on seemed a bit early at the time but proved to be spot on as Rangers got nothing down that side for the last half an hour... also, tremendous celebration.

I thought both Aguiar and Driver had quite up and down games. Full marks for effort but less for application.

 

For me Palazuelos was the MOTM, with the CBs and Karapidis next. Ruben has added bite to his game, worked like a Trojan, some great skills including a sublime dink over Ferguson and when he made his one error midway through the second half he chased the Rangers player a la Stewart all the way to make sure the ball went out of play.

 

Kingston was excellent in the first half and was the inspiration for most of our play - A very good return to the team. Robbie was also particularly good in the first half, and didn?t make any of his trademark gaffes until the start of the second. Solid overall though.

 

The 2 CBs were immense and Rangers never got a sniff. We even scored their goal for them, which was unlucky for Karapidis who was also very strong.

 

Wallace was unlucky for that first booking but the second was a daft lunge - Burke played for both bookings though and Rangers seemed to be so busy diving and trying to fool the ref (Davie Weir winning a free kick for running into Obua! ) that they forgot to try to create anything. MacDonald had little to do. The Gers were totally without width and out-played in the middle, we deserved to beat them.

I'd agree with the scores, but I'd give Wallace a 7 - up to the sending off I thought he was having a good game.

 

Same here - thought Lee was doing pretty well thoughout the game, to be honest, and the first booking was a bit unnecessary, given what some of the Rangers playing were getting away with.

MacDonald - 7 - wasn't sure about him when the teams were announced but he didn't put a foot wrong

 

Neilson - 7 - his usual performance. Good defending but he didn't offer much attacking wise

 

Wallace - 5 - stupid challenge on Burke for his second yellow which was a shame because he was having a decent game up until that

 

Berra - 7 - don't think he lost a challenge against Boyd all match, wasn't far off with a rare goal attempt either

 

Karipidis - unlucky with the goal but he couldn't do much about it. He made up for it as well, keeping Mendes quiet who is an excellent player

 

Palazuelos - 7 - good game from him. He made some good tackles and kept the ball well

 

Zaliukas - 8 - took his goal superbly and won everything against Boyd

 

Aguiar - 8 - MOTM Two great crosses and two goals, you can't say much more than that.

Seriously. Wallace 4??!! Have a word. He made a tackle he wasnt going to get,but if he didnt the Rangers player would have had a run into the box. IMO he had to go for it. For you to give him a 4 out of 10 says to me that you were sleeping for the first hour of that match.

His reasons for struggling in the air against a taller player are understandable but IMO shouldn't mean he earns a higher rating as a result.

 

I may have taken this into account more if he played better with the ball and wasn't sent off.

 

As it stands, I don't think he played well at all. Which I hope is just a blip given his recent run of form.
