In the lower division? Four I think? They were relegated in the 1920's or 30's and again in 1979-80 and of course in 1997-98 but the first time i think they spent 2 seasons in the lower division?

How many seasons have hibs spent in the 1st division in their history?

.

Think it's four in the second tier, two in my lifetime (80-81 and 98-99) and two in the 30s. This my favourite, where they finished 27th in Scottish football, behind Leith Atheletic and St Bernards :P

Yes they got relegated in 1930-31 and only managed to finish 7th in Division 2 in 31-32 season but they won promotion as champions in 32-33 season.

am sure they started off (league) life as a 2nd Division club if that helps add a season or two onto the total :D

Beat you to it :P

Looking again, it's good to see that they were also looking up the league at the likes of Cowdenbeath, Queens Park, East Stirlingshire, Stenhousemuir and Forfar :)

Good spot. 2 seasons in the old 2nd division. They celebrated their entry to the big league in 1895-96 by reaching the Cup Final. You don't need to be a keen historian to know what happened in the final ;)

I presume you mean the 2nd tier?

The answers given are not quite correct as Hibs spent 2 years in Div 2 when they first joined the league.

Only the OF Hearts and St Mirren have competed all the time.

Celtic 111 111

Rangers 111 111

Heart Of Midlothian 107 4 111

Hibernian 102 6 108

Motherwell 92 16 108

Aberdeen 92 1 93

Dundee 91 15 106

St Mirren 90 21 111

Partick Thistle 80 24 4 108

Kilmarnock 80 25 1 106

I thought Dumbarton were also an original member of the league?

Correct - joint winners of the league the first year (with the Huns, title shared after a 2-2 draw in the play off), and outright winners the second year.

By the turn of the 19th century, they were all but out of existence and only began to emerge from the shadows around 1905. The major contributory factor towards their decline was their reluctance to embrace professionalism, which led to the local talent heading elsewhere.

They weren't in the league from 1897 to 1906

10th in Div 2 1896-97

4th in Div 2 1906-07

A few more very soon would be lovely.

Didn't miss them in the slightest the last time.

Correct. I loved them playing in the pishing rain in Stranraer when we were living it up in Majorca:107years: I didn't miss the derby in the slightest.
